Options for Sex Toys for Men

There’s a running joke (is it a joke when it’s probably true?) about guys sitting on their hands to make them numb for masturbation to make it feel like it’s someone else. And when women’s sex toys tend to be shown in mass media as a way for women to get pleasure (usually with laughter intended for the audience) while male sex toys are usually shown in a “weird” way, it makes sense that most men may not realize the vast selection of male sex toys that are available for them to try. However, there are quite a few different types of sex toys you can use as a penis-owning human being; there may not be as many as available for female-bodied people, but there’s still quite a few to help you experience pleasure in a different way.

To give you a bit of help, this article will give you a general overview of some of the sex toys for men. Depending on your preferences and what you think you’ll enjoy, you can give some of these types of sex toys a try and find some new ways to introduce sensations to your masturbation.

Masturbation Sleeves: These are the most common design (by far) of male sex toys. Available in sleeves that look like vaginas, like mouths, like anuses, and like many other things, masturbation sleeves are just long, usually-tight tubes that slide around your penis. They are usually relatively light-weight and are controlled by your hand. Depending on the design, the masturbation sleeves sometimes allow you to control the pressure in the chamber by how tightly/loosely you hold them. Most masturbation sleeves also have various types of inner texture.

Be prepared to spend some decent money on a masturbation sleeve if you want to last a long time. Reading reviews on male masturbation sleeves helps a ton as many of the sleeves are low-quality and aren’t made too well. However, the pricier they get, the more they tend to be made from durable materials that will stand up to a lot of stretching and will shrink back to the original size as needed. Like most people, I would recommend the Fleshlight series if you want to go all-out for your first purchase, but you can easily buy a cheaper one first to see if you’ll like it. For a cheaper, first-time experience, you can look into some of the Tenga Egg masturbation sleeves or some of the other Tenga disposable masturbation sleeves.

If you aren’t sure about where to start with a male sex toy, your safest bet is definitely with a male masturbation sleeve. Read reviews to see what others have enjoyed for the best chance of success.

Cock Rings: While many people consider these “couples” sex toys, cock rings can easily be used just for his pleasure too. Many guys enjoy the constricting feeling that the ring provides while also enjoying the more intense climax they can induce. Depending on your preferences, you can get cock rings that vibrate, and those can also add more feeling to your masturbation. It’s also worth noting that most cock rings can be used with a partner during penetration as well, so it can have multiple uses in your sex life!

For your first cock ring, make sure to get cock rings that are made of a flexible material. While the metal or steel ones can look pretty badass, they also are much, much more difficult to get into and out of and have a higher risk of you hurting yourself (since you won’t know what’s a “typical” cock ring sensation versus actually problematic sensations). So stick with the flexible-material type cock rings until you get to be more experienced.

Sex Dolls: A lot of guys really like the idea of sex dolls, but reality may not be so kind. Maybe sex dolls are portrayed so poorly in the media because most are pretty awful sex toys too. Depending on how much you spend on your doll, the doll may smell like an inflatable pool toy and may have the “pool toy” seams right along the holes – which leads to scratches and discomfort which is a common complaint with many sex doll users. I recommend making sure to purchase a more expensive sex doll – and if that isn’t an option, find a male masturbation sleeve that will slide into the hole in your sex doll. This way, you get the sex doll experience while having the pleasure of the texture, feeling, and protection (!!) of the male masturbation sleeve. When purchasing a sex doll, also make sure to see if there’s any mention about how hard/easy it is to clean.

Anal Toys: While this may not be a usually-considered option, anal toys are definitely a choice for a man’s pleasure. As long as you’re open-minded, anal sensations can intensify your orgasm – and in some cases, guys can orgasm purely from anal stimulation alone! If that isn’t reason enough, there is research out there that shows that prostate stimulation can help impotence, increase urine flow, and improve your ejaculation.

When looking at anal toys, if you’re hoping to just use your toy as an addition to your masturbation, you’ll want to look for a sex toy that is designed to stay put with minimal effort. Make sure your anal toy has a flared base (a huge base that’s larger than the toy itself) to keep it from going inside completely, and look into a size that seems fitting for you. If you want to go a bit larger, go larger. However, keep in mind that you may have to “work” your way up to largre toys, so err on the side of smaller whenever there’s a choice. If you’re hoping to use your anal toy in a bit more active manner, you can look into dildos as those will allow you more freedom of movement along the dildo while the aforementioned anal plug tends to stay in without moving too much.

As a note, while you hear about people doing it regularly, please do not put random household objects up your butt. They aren’t safe, can possibly tear things (ow!), could possibly become unretrievable, and they just aren’t a good idea. Anal toys can be extremely cheap (even more affordable than dinner), so just don’t do it.

Penis Pumps: While not usually considered a “sex toy”, penis pumps can qualify as one. Some men, while not all, really enjoy the sensation of using a penis pump, and using a penis pump can be erotic in itself. Others, however, just use their penis pump for functional reasons. I will admit my experience with penis pumps is very minimal, but I know Bathmate is considered one of the better brands. As with most of the toys in this article, though, make sure to read reviews and see how others have been doing with the product before you purchase – this way you’ll get the most “bang” for your money.

Lubricant! This seems like an odd addition to this list, but keep in mind that almost all of the items on this list (short of the cock rings) require lubricant for use. And no, the cooking oil in your cabinet is not a good idea! (Oil-based lubricants like that can easily destroy your toy on the first use) Pick up a water-based lubricant – they’re extremely cheap – to make sure to have a pleasurable and safe first-time with your sex toy.

While these types of sex toys have added hours of entertainment and pleasure to many men’s masturbation routine, you don’t always have to use masturbation toys either. There is always fun to be had with your hand, but one method can get old after awhile, so it’s good to keep male masturbation toy options in mind. Most sex toy stores sell most (or all) of these different types of toys, so you can easily pick up whatever one will work best for you.
