Fun Factory VIM Review

The Fun Factory VIM sits out on top of a pile of sex education books. There are green plants in the foreground and background. The surroundings of the massager are white and airy enough that the dark navy blue of the wand massager really stands out. For my Fun Factory VIM review article.

As soon as I opened the box for the Fun Factory VIM review, I knew this wand was a little bit different.

Not only did it lift out of the box with a surprising lightness, but the entirety of the handle was covered with the same, ridged silicone material as the handle. This really made it feel secure in my hands.

After playing the fun game of “what buttons unlock the Travel Lock functionality?” (because I was too excited to dig out the manual), the Fun Factory VIM hummed to life. And I mean hummed.

It’s freakin’ quiet. Loud, audible vibrations are the go-to hallmark of wand massagers, so it was surprising when this one simply purred to life.

As soon as I got over that surprise, the next thing I noticed was the deep, rumbly vibrations. While I heard the purr of those vibrations, I didn’t feel any part of those vibrations in the handle. It wasn’t until I pressed my hand to the head of the wand massager that I really felt how deep the purr was – even on the lowest setting.

And while I’m not proud to admit it, as soon as I felt these innovative, unique wand massager features, I really wanted to see how it performed as a sex toy. So the VIM went straight over to the couch, and with little fanfare, I got it in place overtop of all of my clothes.

And using the second-to-highest setting, I had an orgasm in the middle of the day with zero foreplay or arousal within two minutes. (Honestly, I can’t say I’d recommend orgasms that way. It almost felt painful on muscles that weren’t ready for the workout, but goddamn, that’s some seriously impressive power!)

After that, my experience could only go up, right? And that’s exactly it. I don’t want to spoil the rest of this review, but the Fun Factory VIM is going to be my go-to wand massager – especially for traveling.

The wand massager laid out on a marbled white surface. The texture is visible all along the wand massager handle and head, and it makes for a very cohesive visual. The wand really stands out compared to the light, white background.

Fun Factory VIM Review: How Is It Different?

There are a whole lot of wand massagers on the market. Ever since the Magic Wand became the “must have” vibrator, companies have been following up with their own versions of the iconic vibrator.

That’s why it’s always been a bit odd that Fun Factory never had a wand massager. Despite being one of the larger names in vibrators for the past decade, they’ve innovated in ways that strayed away from a wand-style sex toy. There’s nothing wrong with that, but I always found it odd for a company that had produced a lot of “must have” toys – like popularizing the T-shape base of the Bootie, kegel balls for the butt in their B Balls, or the start of the self-thrusting trends in their BiStronic line.

They’ve been innovating for a long, long time.

According to the marketing for the new Fun Factory VIM, this new wand massager is a decade in the making because Fun Factory wanted it to truly address the usual pain points of wand massagers: the loud noise, buzzy, numbing vibrations, and the heavy design.

According to this marketing copy, the VIM is 50% quieter and 32% lighter than the “leading wand on the market” (I’m guessing that’s the Magic Wand). It offers deep, rumbly vibrations, and it allows the user to adjust the intensity of each one of those vibrations.

The VIM also offers unique patterns (they call “programs”). The Fun Factory VIM comes with three unique “orgasm programs” including:

  • Deep Orgasm Program: This rumbly program starts at the lightest settings and slowly builds up to the maximum intensities. It’s designed for strong, fulfilling orgasms.
  • Intense Orgasm Program: This pattern comes at you hard, straight for those moments when pulling out an orgasm is your only goal.
  • Edging Program: This pattern builds in intensity and then drops off, again and again.

How Does It Hold Up to Marketing Claims?

The Fun Factory VIM makes three big claims within its copy. It’s different than the competitors because it’s:

  • Quieter
  • Lighter
  • Offering deeper, rumbly vibrations that aren’t buzzy.

Let’s dive into its three main selling points with the help of my stupid-large sex toy collection to do some real-life comparisons.

Is the Fun Factory VIM Quieter Than Other Wand Massagers?

Luckily for this review, I own a metric buttload of other wand massagers. Since I assume the marketing claims compared to the “Leading wand” are using the Vibratex Magic Wand, I pulled out my Vibratex Magic Wand Plus for a bit of comparison.

The answer is “yes”, the VIM is quieter than the Magic Wand Plus by a noticeable margin.

The actual vibration frequency also sounds different too. The Magic Wand Plus tends to have a stronger, rattle-like vibration to it. The Fun Factory VIM has a softer, thrumming sound to it.

Don’t get me wrong: you aren’t using either of these wand massagers in a public bathroom without someone knowing exactly what you’re doing. Wand massagers are not known for discretion, and that carries through here too.

But assuming you stick to the lowest three intensity settings, you could get away with using this in your home with the door shut and music/TV on while others are in the house. I’m not as comfortable making that claim as the intensity climbs (intensities 4 and 5 have a bit of a whine to them that makes them stand out more). But for people who want to play with their wand massager in shared housing, the Fun Factory VIM can come play along. Just make sure you have some sort of decently loud background noise.

So if noise is an important aspect for you, the VIM is the winner compared to most wand massagers. It’s still not quiet or discreet, but it’s noticeably quieter – with less whining – than the Magic Wand Plus. I’d say Fun Factory’s claims check out on this one.

The Vibratex Magic Wand Plus next to the Fun Factory VIM. The VIM is slightly shorter in length, and the handle of the VIM is much slimmer in width.

Is the Fun Factory VIM Lighter Than Other Wand Massagers?

When held side by side for this Fun Factory VIM review, the VIM is clearly lighter than the Magic Wand Plus. It’s a noticeable difference, but I can’t say that it’s enough of a drastic change to go “Ahh, yes, this isn’t a heavy sex toy at all!”

Wand massagers simply tend to be one of the weightiest sex toys out there. While the Fun Factory VIM is noticeably lighter than the Magic Wand Plus, it’s still heavier than virtually every other type of sex toy out there at about a pound in heft.

What I notice most, honestly, is the spread of the weight in the Fun Factory VIM compared to the Magic Wand Plus. Almost all of the weight of the Magic Wand Plus is in the head of the wand massager. I’d guess this is because the silicone layer around the head is thick and the handle is entirely made of lightweight plastic.

In contrast, the weight feels more balanced on the Fun Factory VIM. I’d guess it’s because the head is slightly slimmer and the handle is also covered in silicone.

The Vibratex Magic Wand Plus next to the Fun Factory VIM. Both wand massagers have three buttons on the handle.

The Fun Factory VIM feels like a heavy, evenly-weighted stick while the Vibratex Magic Wand Plus feels more like a heavy hammer. The VIM wants to balance in your hand when you’re holding it while the Magic Wand feels more like a hammer with a light handle and heavy head.

This can make a big difference depending on how you use it. If you’re regularly using the Magic Wand Plus while lying down with the head facing down and the handle in the air, you’ll have a great time. If you’re someone who uses your Magic Wand while standing or while trying to hold it upright between the legs in doggy style, though, you’re going to find that this off-weighted design feels way heavier than it actually is.

(Holding a vibe like this is actually a type of physical therapy for wrist strength, so it’s no wonder that it can fatigue the forearm and wrist so quickly! Placing your hand face-up on a flat surface, you hold a hammer in your hand with the heavy head as far away from your hand as possible. Rest the head on the table. You then twist just your wrist to bring the hammer upright – then slowly return it to the starting position. With something so off-weighted like the Magic Wand Plus, you’re essentially trying to do that during sex – so it makes sense that it feels so heavy!)

That means the Fun Factory VIM is the clear “winner” here for versatility. Its evenly-weighted design makes it feel easier to handle, and it’s easier to keep pressed up against the body – even in odd sex positions. It leads to a lot less wrist fatigue than the Magic Wand Plus in virtually any position that isn’t laying down.

My only complaint about the VIM’s design is the ridged texturing on the handle. On one hand, I absolutely love how it feels. It makes it easy to grip the VIM, makes it visually cohesive with the head, and feels fantastic on my skin.

On the other hand, the VIM is not waterproof, and this texturing has a lot of divots. We find that we’re spending longer scrubbing the handle of the wand massager (a bit of an aggravating experience with a washcloth as the wand can not be submerged in water) if we accidentally get any lube near the handle.

It’s also particularly ugly if we don’t happen to catch all of the lube when cleaning. The divots in texture where a bit of dried lube is left are very apparent after the wand massager has dried. Not a dealbreaker, but if you’re someone who plays dirty and messy, it’s simply something to keep in mind for after-play clean-up.

Does It Have Deeper Vibrations than Other Wand Massagers?

Yes!

This is especially apparent in the lowest settings. I’m not sure how Fun Factory did it, but the lowest softest, gentlest settings on the VIM still manage to be deep and rumbly.

No setting on the Fun Factory VIM feels buzzy or irritating on my skin. They all feel like a deep muscle massage. With buzzy vibrations, I (and my partner) generally feel the need to continually press into the massager to try to get deeper, more intense stimulation.

With the Fun Factory VIM, even on the lowest setting, we’re using a light touch. The vibrations feel ridiculously stimulating even without pressing the wand massager deep into the tissue.

I will say that a select few (mostly the Magic Wand brand and other plug-in options) massagers top out at stronger vibrations than the Fun Factory VIM. The VIM’s vibrations are deliciously powerful and amazing for what they are, but at their highest setting, they don’t beat out some of the highest settings of plug-in massagers. They are, however, on par with the Magic Wand Rechargeable.

This isn’t a dealbreaker for me at all. I find the highest setting on most plug-in wand massagers to be overkill for my body, but if you’re someone who relies on that top setting on your plug-in massager as the go-to orgasm creator, just keep that in mind.

Fun Factory VIM Review: Controls and Vibration Intensities

The Fun Factory VIM has “5 intensity speeds” and 3 patterns. These functions are controlled by the buttons on the handle of the wand massager. Press the red Fun Factory button to boot up the toy, and press the + and – buttons to scroll through the functionalities.

In a good manufacturing choice, the VIM starts with the five steady speeds, going from the softest to the most intense. Once you’ve scrolled all the way through those, continuing to press the + button will lead you to the included patterns. If, at any point, you get lost or want to go back to steady vibrations, turning the wand massager on and off with the red “Fun” button will start you back at the beginning.

One of the coolest features about the VIM is the microadjustability of each one of the vibration settings. A single press of the + or – button will simply pop the VIM onto a new intensity or pattern.

BUT if you press and hold the + or – button, the VIM will provide microadjustments to your current setting. It will ever-so-slightly slide the current setting upwards or downwards – and it compounds the longer you hold the button.

My hand grips the handle of the VIM. The VIM's handle looks slender in my hands, and it felt easy to hold it upright in my hand with one hand.

For example, if I turn on the VIM, it goes directly to the softest steady vibration intensity. If I press and hold the – button after turning it on, though, it slowly decreases in intensity until it’s at a much, much, much lower intensity that sounds like the VIM is barely on. You know that sensation a gas-powered item makes when you didn’t quite prime it well enough and it’s a bit shaky – but still on? That’s how low down the VIM will go. It’s a drastic change from the lowest setting.

It goes way, way, way lower.

That means the VIM technically-sorta has a lot more intensities than the 5 stated intensities. It’s probably 50 intensities at least if you started counting out all of the different levels the VIM could potentially achieve.

It’s downright impressive, and this functionality just simply didn’t exist on any other vibrator until the VIM.

And we haven’t even begun to touch on the patterns!

Fun Factory VIM Review: The Patterns

This wand massager comes with 3 patterned modes.

I’m generally not a fan of patterned modes on any toy – but especially not a wand massager where intensity is of the essence.

Despite that, I actually kinda like the VIM patterns. The VIM comes with three patterned modes:

  • Deep Orgasm (Designed for deep, full-body orgasms)
  • Intense Orgasm (Designed for fast, quickie orgasms)
  • Edging (Designed to keep you on the edge before letting you orgasm)

Each one of these program modes can be customized in vibration intensity – just like the vibrations themselves. Simply press and hold the – or + button to make each pattern more (or less) intense based on what you want.

Close up of the wand massager head. It has a ridged, swirled texture all along the surface of the head. For my Fun Factory VIM review.

I’d describe Deep Orgasm as “woooooooooooo, wooooooooooooooo, wooooooooooooooo, woooooooo, woooooo, wooooo, wooooo, wooooo, wooo, wooo, wo-wo-wo-wo-wo-wo-wo”. Or if you’d a music nerd, four half notes, eight single notes, and then a bunch of eighth notes.

The Intense Orgasm starts off with a bunch of fast buzzes, slows down for a few buzzes, and then goes back to the fast buzzes, over and over again. It’s a bit like a roller coaster ride of intensities (the intensity seems to go up) and speeds.

My favorite, by far, is the Edging Pattern that seems to mix both the Deep Orgasm and Intense Orgasm patterns into this one pattern. It has the long wooo-like pulses that go up and down in intensity along with speed. Throughout it all, a low, base rumble continues for the wand massager, so you’re never entirely without stimulation. This one is definitely a favorite, and it’s the only pattern that could easily make me orgasm.

And patterns never make me orgasm, so that was a definite surprise.

If you end up loving one of the patterned modes, you will still need to cycle through all of the 5 steady speed intensities in order to reach the programs. Pressing the – button will not reverse cycle from Setting 1 to Setting 8.

I hold the VIM and press the head up against a firm surface. The wand massager's head bends under the pressure. For my Fun Factory VIM review.

Where Does This Wand Fit In?

In a market saturated with wand massagers (honestly, there’s a lot), where does the Fun Factory VIM fit in?

If you have the budget, I think it’s the go-to wand massager for someone new to wand massagers. Honestly.

It’s honestly a shining example of a wand massager. It highlights all the amazing things about wand massagers while reducing the aggravation of the less-great things. It:

  • Has ultra-customizable vibrations that can go to super-duper soft or ultra powerful.
  • Has a gigantic range of intensity. You can go from “this vibrator is vibrating so slowly that it’s actually sorta just wiggling itself” all the way to power tool level. This is great for people who aren’t sure how much intensity they want.
  • Is easy to understand and customize. The control system is intuitive, and you’ll be up and running with it in seconds.
  • Offers patterns, but it doesn’t usurp the steady intensities to do it. You have some great patterns to explore, but the steady vibration intensities – which is how most people use a wand – are the star here.
  • Is quieter with less whining and rattling than many options. It’s still not discreet enough for public use, but the softened sound makes it more comfortable to use.
  • Is better weighted. It feels lighter to hold – especially in odd positions where you might be supporting the wand’s full weight.
  • Is easier to grip. The spread weight makes it less taxing on the muscles, and the textured silicone handle means the wand doesn’t really slip out of the hands.
  • Is pretty. This isn’t necessarily a must-have, but I love that it looks like a cohesive, bedroom-ready sex toy instead of a medical device.

The only downside? That price tag is higher than in a lot of options – though currently only about a $30 spread from the Magic Wand Rechargeable, and I’d definitely go for the VIM over the Magic Wand Rechargeable.

If you already own a wand massager, the VIM may be worth the upgrade. I’d especially recommend it for anyone who is frustrated by their current wand’s buzzy vibrations or their current wand’s weight. It’s hard to tell you to replace an expensive toy with another expensive toy unless it’s necessary, but the improvements in buzzy/rumbly and handling are worthwhile improvements for your wand massager sessions.

(I would NOT recommend buying the VIM if trying to find a more discreet sex toy. The VIM is definitely quieter than its competition, but it isn’t at the level of “discreet”.)

The Fun Factory VIM is not quite as portable as the Lovense Domi 2, but that’s purely because the Fun Factory VIM is larger. If you’re someone who likes the larger, wider head for your play, however, that puts the Fun Factory VIM as my top choice for traveling. Not only does it have Travel Lock functionality, but it is also your lightest full-sized wand option.

Ease of Use
Noise Level (for a wand massager)
Versatility
High-Quality Features

Summary

I have a few nitpicky areas (water-resistant instead of waterproof with a handle that can be a bit aggravating to clean), but that’s about where my critique ends.

Instead, I just want to sing the praises of the Fun Factory VIM from the roofs. It offers truly customizable settings. It’s easy to grip and surprisingly lightweight to handle. Its vibration timbre sounds like a comfortable, forgettable hum instead of a power tool.

And despite all of those improvements, at no point did the VIM sacrifice the vibration intensity. It’s still deep, strong, rumbly, and everything I want from a wand massager. Only it’s all packaged in a wand massager that’s simultaneously quieter, lighter, and more comfortable to handle than its competitors.

It’s almost like the pipedream of wand massagers.

Add that to the fact that the Fun Factory VIM is made from one of the best sex toy manufacturers on the market with recyclable packaging, high-quality toys, and a 2-year warranty, and you end up with a wand massager I’d wholeheartedly recommend with no reservations.

The only thing keeping it from taking over the entire world in the next month is simply the price point. While its high-quality features mean that it’s a drastic improvement from your “standard” wand massagers, the price point – which is 1.5 to 2 times higher than your baseline recommended wand massager – is what’s going to make louder and buzzier alternatives attractive for many.
