Lovense Gush Review

Thanks for joining me for my Lovense Gush review. Over the past ten years, penis vibrators have really taken off. I remember when the Fun Factory Cobra Libre (OG version) was released to serious fanfare. A vibrator? Specifically designed for penises? It was really, really hard to find anything like that – especially in the mainstream sex toy industry.

So when Fun Factory brought the Cobra Libre to life, people paid attention – and the interest was there. (It still has enough interest to warrant a second iteration: the Cobra Libre 2 – which is still a core product from Fun Factory!)

With that popularity, other manufacturers have entered the ring. Today, we’re going to talk about one of the latest sex toy crafters to toss their hat into the ring: Lovense.

While Lovense has been famous for remote-control (and cell phone app controlled!) vibrators and sex toys for a long time now, penis vibrators have been mysteriously absent from their line-up until now. Despite having 7 vibration-focused toys for a vulva – and 2 for a penis owner (prostate and cock ring), the Gush’s addition represents a new type of product for Lovense: a penis vibrator designed for shaft use.

Not to rest on their laurels, the Lovense Gush was released with an innovative, unique design. Not simply a penis vibrator, the Gush was designed with a unique, open-side design that makes for a multitude of uses. One side of the Gush features two flexible silicone “wings” that can be compressed – or expanded – to allow the Gush to fit a wide variety of penis sizes – including flaccid penises.

Everything that comes with the Lovense Gush laid out on the white bedding of a bed. There's the storage bag, the charging cable, instruction manuals, the Lovense Gush, and the optional bad that wraps around the Gush. For my Lovense Gush review.

Further adding to the use options, the Lovense Gush comes with a silicone loop. This loop looks similar to those silicone word bands you see people use as bracelets – but instead of wrapping around the wrist, the loop is designed to snugly wrap around the Gush. Wrapping this loop around the Gush while it’s on the shaft was crafted to make it snug – and allow for hands-free use of the Gush.

Finally, one side of the interior chamber of the Gush is lined with pronounced ribbing. This ribbing allows the Gush to function beautifully as a stroker – in addition to its vibration functionality.

Of course, as part of the Lovense line, the Lovense Gush is equipped with the cell phone app control as every other sex toy they sell – which allows for serious play including long-distance, local, customized patterns, access to their online orgies, and a whole lot more. (Seriously, I love Lovense’s app functionality)

So, let’s jump into the Lovense Gush review. Let’s talk about how well the Lovense Gush works for all of those multi-use scenarios, how well that translates into pleasure, how the online phone control works, and how to care for the Lovense Gush.

The Lovense Gush sits out on top of white bedding. The included Band is wrapped around the Gush, and it looks snug on the penis vibrator, and it's keeping it pulled snugly. For my Lovense Gush review.
My hand, with my palm flat, is holding the Lovense Gush. The Gush is slightly larger than the size of my palm. For my Lovense Gush review.
The Gush is pressed up against the white bedding. My fingers are spreading the "wings" of the Gush apart to showcase the interior, ribbed texturing. The "wings" are flexible enough to be almost spread out the entirety of the toy. For my Lovense Gush review.

Lovense Gush Review: Use Options

The Lovense Gush‘s claim to fame is its multi-use design – and it stands out for it.

Unlike most penis vibrators, the Gush wraps fully around the penis.

Unlike most penis strokers, the Gush features bendable wings – which allows you to slide a not-fully-erect penis into it.

Further “complicating” it all, the Lovense Gush features internal ribbing which was added to encourage stroking. Plus, the Lovense Gush includes the silicone band to snugly hold the Gush onto the shaft.

(Think of it like the manufacturer-made version of the “hair tie”. I’ve heard of penis-owners using a hair tie with other penis vibrators in order to ‘fasten’ it onto the shaft for hands-free use.)

So, that means, in theory, the Lovense Gush can be used like this:

  • Flaccid by holding it in place
  • Flaccid by using the band and your hand to hold it in place
  • Erect by wrapping the Gush around the penis and holding it in place
  • Erect by using the band to wrap the Gush to hold it in place
  • Erect by using a bit of lube to stroke the Gush up and down the shaft
  • Using the Gush anywhere on the shaft – frenulum or otherwise

In practice, some of those options work better than others. Let’s deep dive this Lovense Gush review into flaccid and erect use.

Using the Lovense Gush on a Flaccid Penis

We’re not a huge fan of the Lovense Gush for fully-flaccid use. If you’re semi-erect, have at it.

For those who are fully flaccid and are not expecting any enlargement, however, getting the Gush onto the shaft can be difficult. While the “wings” of the Gush are flexible and bendable, a human being only has so many hands.

We found we needed three hands to easily get the Lovense Gush around a fully flaccid, completely-squishy penis. Two hands would grip and open up each of the two wings while the third hand would gently lay the flaccid penis into the interior of the Gush.

Without that third hand, it feels a bit like trying to stuff the penis into a tight hole where it wants to go. It doesn’t just simply “place” onto the Gush.

(I highly, highly recommend one of the Hot Octopuss Pulse toys if you expect to stay entirely flaccid for most use sessions. The wider opening makes maneuvering a squishy, fleshy tube much easier.)

That being said, once you get the Lovense Gush onto the flaccid penis, it does a pretty good job of staying there. I wouldn’t recommend trying to stroke or move the Gush up and down on a flaccid penis (it’ll slip out), but as long as you hold the Gush still and firmly, the flaccid penis can stay inside of the Gush.

We have not found that the band can keep the toy in place, while flaccid, without using hands. The heft of the Gush tends to slide it off with a completely soft penis.

My hand holds the Gush in front of a window. I hold it with the flexible wings facing the open window. This angle showcases how the vibrator's flexible wings can be tightened with a tighter grip. This angle also shows the power button etched into the material of the silicone. For my Lovense Gush review.

Using the Lovense Gush on an Erect Penis

  • Erect by wrapping the Gush around the penis and holding it in place
  • Erect by using the band to wrap the Gush to hold it in place
  • Erect by using a bit of lube to stroke the Gush up and down the shaft
  • Using the Gush anywhere on the shaft – frenulum or otherwise

I recommend adding a dab of lube to the Gush when maneuvering it around an erect penis. The dragginess of the silicone can grip painfully along the shaft if you don’t have any lube on it. Even if you plan on leaving the Gush on the shaft without stroking, just that drop of lube on the penis or toy can really help getting the Gush on, initially, by a large margin.

While erect, the Lovense Gush is SO much easier to move around than when working with a flaccid penis. With that bit of lube, it’s easy to slide it down the shaft and get it exactly where you want. We’ve found that positioning near the tip is the most effective – and orgasmic – but you can leave it down at the base if you have other plans for the rest of the shaft, too.

Add extra lube if you plan on stroking the Gush up and down the shaft, but it’s totally doable – and pleasurable too! Even without the vibrations on, the up-and-down stroking is enough for orgasm with the internal texture – but you can easily pop on the vibrations to instantly add sensation too!

With the winged design of the Gush, the exact tightness is pretty personalized to what you want. Grip the toy tighter – and it will feel tighter around the shaft. Hold the Gush with a loose hand to have it lightly wrap around the penis. You’ll feel the most difference in tightness along the winged area and the sides of the vibe. The side of the Gush opposite the wings doesn’t seem to change too much in diameter no matter how you grip, so you’ll probably want to experiment with positioning it in a spot where you don’t want/need as much tightness.

The “hands-free” band is functional, but it does need to be babied a little bit. The Lovense Gush isn’t a lightweight vibrator. It isn’t a wand massager – but it isn’t a bullet vibrator either. Especially if you’re someone who wants sensation on the tip of your penis, this means that you’re going to be putting all of the vibrator’s weight (about a fourth of a pound) onto the tip of the penis. Even if the vibrator stays, hands-free, with the help of the band that wraps around the Gush, your experience may not be as “hands-free” as originally intended because of this weight.

If you’re standing up, with an erect penis, the weight of the Gush, hands-free, even with the band, can start to feel pretty painful. We gave it a try a few times, but he usually tapped out and gripped it with his hand within a minute. The heft of the Gush on the tip was just too uncomfortable – and distracting from the pleasant sensations. He had to use his hands to support the shaft – or hold the Gush – regardless of the fact that the toy was very “stuck” when adding the band. (It was less of a problem at the base of the shaft. He just didn’t feel as much pleasure from that placement.)

On the other hand, if you’re sitting down or laying down, the Gush’s band actually does manage hands-free pretty well. The support of the thighs, the lack of the pull of gravity, and the ability for the penis to rest up against the abdomen help a lot with making the Gush’s hands-free use feel enjoyable instead of painful. The weight of the Gush on the tip of the penis can feel a bit pendulum-y when sitting down, but it’s manageable for mostly hands-free as long as you occasionally reposition the shaft.

By far, the shining use is laying down. With the penis laying flat up towards the belly button, the Gush’s hands-free band holds it snugly on the penis through any twitchy movements with zero discomfort. It’s all pleasure, all-the-time, and a fantastic way to enjoy hands free vibrations if you’ve been craving a hands-free penis pleasure.

My hand holds the Gush in front of a window. This angle showcases the plastic Lovense plate that's located on the side opposite of the winged sides. The two magnetic charging port connectors are also shown right above the Lovense plate. For my Lovense Gush review.

Lovense Gush Review: The Pleasure

How you use it doesn’t really matter a bit unless it feels good.

So….does it?

The answer is a resounding yes from the partner.

He loves this thing. He says the vibrations are deep and rumbly – and he can feel them throughout the shaft.

He loves that it slides anywhere on the shaft which allows him to “choose his adventure”. Especially for someone who loves edging, this makes the Lovense Gush a fantastic choice. When he wants to drag out the action and edge for a long, long time, he can use the Gush on the bottom of the shaft where things are less sensitive. When the vibrations are starting to feel too overwhelming, he pops the vibrations off and simply enjoys stroking with the Gush while enjoying the internal ribbing.

When he wants something that feels very sensation-heavy, he can simply pull the Lovense Gush up towards the head of the penis and stroke there – and the sensations feel so, so much more intense. It can get him to orgasm in less than 30 seconds with zero problem; the partnership between the ridging and the vibrations is a really, really potent one for him.

He does note that getting it to stay on a flaccid shaft isn’t the easiest task in the world, but compared to other penis toys we’ve tried flaccid, it isn’t entirely a non-starter.

His favorite way to use the Lovense Gush is enjoying the vibrations while adding in stroking. He isn’t able to use it for very long that way (less than 20 seconds, really), because even on the lowest settings, it will rush him straight to orgasm.

Stroking is a favorite because of the internal ridging of the Lovense Gush. He states that the ridges are less intense than some of his most-textured Fleshlights – but they’re very pleasurable in their own way and are especially potent for a vibrating toy. The ridging is enough stimulation, with the vibrations turned off, to be orgasmic all on its own. So when he partners it with the vibrations, it’s a double-whammy.

With the ridging only present on the thicker, non-winged side, he does note that using the ridges requires a bit of planning. You won’t be able to enjoy the ridging on the entire shaft; you’ll need to choose which side of the penis to receive the most stimulation.

He almost always ignores the included Gush band and opts for using his hand. He notes that, while laying down, it’s possible to let the Gush do its thing, hands-free; it doesn’t really require the band (for him) to stay on the shaft. So the band usually is something that adds complexity he doesn’t really need. (I’ve regularly found it left in the box when he goes to use the Gush.)

Even for femdom control and online play, he doesn’t really prefer the band. He knows that he’s required to leave the vibrator in place (no stroking!) when I’m controlling it with my cell phone in order to prevent accidental, premature ejaculation. But he still opts to hold the Lovense Gush onto the perfect place on his shaft as opposed to trying to get it to stay on the shaft, hands-free, with the included band.

Lovense Gush Review: Online Penis Control

Screenshot of my phone using the Lovense app for my Lovense Gush review. The app shows a drag-and-drop ball at the bottom of the screen with the ability to slide, press and hold, sync, and more for local, visual live connection. A left-to-right line at the top of the shot displays a visual representation of what the vibrator's intensity is currently doing. It looks very wiggly.

I can never manage to seem to talk about any of the Lovense toys without spending eight years praising the online functionality of their sex toys. (Domi 2, Hush, etc.)

That’s, and I say this sincerely and as a sex nerd who has tried them all, because the Lovense cell phone app control functionality is, by far, the best on the market.

I’m not going to say you’re going to get 100% reliability with your cell phone connection. You probably won’t. But it’s about 98% reliable. It’s reliable enough that I never worry about checking in my partner (who’s feeling the Gush) to ensure that the toy responded to what I told it to. I just know that it did. The reliability sinks down a bit for insertable Lovense toys, but for an external one like the Gush, it’s pretty much magical.

(And this is coming from a femdom who has, literally, broken down in tears during sex because a panty vibrator was constantly disconnecting and interrupting sex. I did not throw the vibrator that day, but it was a close call.)

Screenshot of the Lovense app homepage. This view shows all of the easy-to-use options at a glance like Remote, My Patterns, Music, Alarm, and Sound. There are separate tabs for Home, Long Distance, Discover, and Me. A plus sign in the upper right hand corner allows for easy addition of toys to control. Screenshot for my Lovense Gush review.

Adding to the reliability of the Gush is the sheer breadth of options available from the Lovense platform itself. We’re talking fun like:

  • Local control of the Gush with a visual interface for self/partnered play
  • Long-distance control of the Gush with that same interface for around-the-Earth play
  • Synchronize two toys to respond to intensity changes and use changes of your partner’s toy (not sure this is available with the Gush)
  • Customized patterns – or patterns downloaded from the community-made options
  • Asychronized play (a long-distance partner can send you custom patterns to use)
  • Multiple person control structures (polyamory options abound!)
  • Use the vibrator as an “alarm” to wake you up at a specific time you set in the app
  • Synchronize the vibrations to your favorite songs
  • “Ambient noise” vibrations that will vibrate in response to ambient noise – like talking or club music
  • A “faux” music player interface for the app on your phone for passive use in public that isn’t obvious
  • “Speed Mode” which increases the intensity of the vibrations based on how fast your phone’s accelerometer is picking up (like if you’re a passenger in a car)
  • Synchronization and online control from models on select cam sites
  • Lovense orgies

I’m 1000% sure I’m forgetting something. Seriously, the use functionality on the Lovense toys is just ridiculously expansive. We rarely touch most of it aside from sex toy review purposes, but I know it’s there and have some fun use ideas in mind for some of these.

Screenshot of my phone's notifications dropdown. A basic music player is my only notification that states "Now Playing" with a pause, next track, and previous track option. This is actually, secretly, controlling the Gush it's attached to. Screenshot for my Lovense Gush review.

About the only thing the Lovense toys don’t come with is a physical remote. All of the online control and functionality requires a cell phone to enjoy.

If you’re not into online or cell phone control, the standard vibration intensities – and a few patterns – can be enjoyed simply by pressing the power button that’s built into the toy itself. It won’t be nearly as expansive as the options the cell phone control offers, but when you want something simple, it’ll totally work fine.

Essentially, I’m happy to rely on the cell phone control functionality of the Lovense Gush; it works reliably, offers more-than-enough options for all sorts of play, and it’s our go-to brand for online sex toy control.

Screenshot of my phone using the Lovense app. A back-and-forth conversation between my partner and I in the in-app chat functionality Lovense has. Screenshot for my Lovense Gush review.
A little old, but I had to scroll up to the top of my Lovense conversations to ensure the text wasn’t too explicit for a review!

Lovense Gush Review: Caring for Your Gush

Waterproof, the Lovense Gush is a lot easier to take care of than most penis stroking toys. This is partially because it’s so compact (a lot less surface area to clean), partially because it’s open on both ends (to easily get at the entire length), and partially because it’s a rigid silicone (so nothing is bending or wiggling its way out of your hands while you try to clean it).

It really is a simple toy to keep up with.

Warm water and mild soap will do your average, everyday cleansings. Just hold it under the running water. Do not boil this vibe (as it has internal mechanical parts).

The Lovense Gush sits out on the white bedding of a bed. The magnetic charging cable is connected to the Gush to show how the charging cable connects to the toy. The opposite end of the charging cable is a USB connector. For my Lovense Gush review.

Once the Gush is fully dry, it can be charged. The Gush comes with a magnetic charging cord that simply needs to be placed over the magnetic charging pad on the Gush. The magnets aren’t particularly strong, so it’s a bit of a precarious balancing act to get the circular, likes-to-roll toy to stay in place for the charger.

It takes a little over an hour to hit a full charge. That full charge will provide another 2 hours of use.

To keep up with the battery and preserve battery life, ensure you charge the Lovense Gush fully every six months.

Summary

The Lovense Gush is a power-packed toy that’s crafted for versatility. Flaccid use? Hands-free use? Edging? Straight-to-orgasm? Stroking? Stationary? Somehow, the Lovense Gush fits all of those uses into a single penis vibrator.

Not only does the design lend itself well to most of these different uses (though, with caveats, for some, as noted above), but it also does a good job with them. The deep ridging ensures the stroking feels fantastic. The flexible wings allow the vibrator to fit most spots along the shaft – including thicker areas. The deep, powerful vibrations ensure that the vibrations alone can be enough for orgasm – and the vibrations aren’t surface-level or irritating.

Not only that, but the Lovense Gush comes complete with the Lovense ecosystem. As one of the most reliable online connections available – and one of the most expansive phone apps, this gives you a whole host of ways to play with the Lovense Gush – whether solo or partnered.

We’ve been really impressed with the Lovense Gush. Not only is it, currently, the partner’s penis vibrator of choice, but it also makes a great vibrator when I want to control the sensations he’s receiving. It’s definitely up there as a “top tier” femdom vibrator along with the Hot Octopuss Pulse Solo Lux.

In short: while it doesn’t work flawlessly for every use imaginable, it works amazingly for the majority of what we’d want to do – and it feels orgasmic while doing it. We love it.
