Magic Wand Mini vs Lovense Domi 2 Wand Massager Comparison

As I was writing this Lovense Domi 2 vs Magic Wand Mini comparison, I realized that I’m not that impressed with the power of the Magic Wand Mini.

That’s probably cannibalizing all of your attention – and making it so that you don’t feel like you need to read the rest of this article, but I’ll admit to being extremely surprised by that verdict.

Vibratex and their Magic Wands are the pinnacles of vibrator power. Yeah, there are a few vibrators out there that can give a Magic Wand a run for its money, but it’s in the “count them on one hand” level of things.

So, when Vibratex recently released the Magic Wand Mini a month ago, I was expecting some serious breakthrough vibrations. After all, they’re drastically late to the party. Almost every full-sized wand manufacturer offers a “mini” now. So, I (erroneously, obviously) assumed the Magic Wand Mini had some breakthrough tech.

That’s not to say the Magic Wand Mini is terrible; it isn’t. It still has decent vibrations, it handles like a cloud compared to the stupid-heavy full-size Magic Wands, and it’s easy to operate. It’s everything I love about the style of the Magic Wands – but in a tinier, easier to enjoy format.

But it forgoes a lot of the deep, powerful, rumbly vibrations that make you fall in love with the Magic Wand series in the first place.

I digress: we’re here to compare the Magic Wand Mini vs Lovense Domi 2.

Because if you’re in the market for a travel-friendly wand massager, one of these two wands is probably at the top of your wishlist.

Magic Wand Mini vs Lovense Domi 2: Vibrational Power

This isn’t much of a contest. The Lovense Domi 2 blows the Magic Wand Mini out of the water.

If we’re being honest, the Lovense Domi 2 blows pretty much any vibrator out of the water. It is, by far, the most powerful rechargeable vibrator I own, and when I ask friends to compare the full-sized Magic Wands to the Domi 2, everyone (so far) has said the Domi 2 is stronger.

I want to be upfront: the Domi 2 is so strong that it can wring an orgasm out of me – discomfort included – even if I’m not aroused or don’t feel like cumming. Even at the lightest setting, the Domi 2’s power is ridiculous; I only go to the second power intensity in sex “emergencies” – like after a full day of drinking where I really – goddammit – want to orgasm, but my body feels numb to every other attempt I throw at it.

I have never pulled out the Domi 2 for casual, leisurely masturbation that’s exploratory and lasts for hours. It just isn’t the right sex toy for the job.

The Domi 2 is a straight-up power tool that gets the job done. I treasure it because it goes well beyond what my other toys can do. My favorite Womanizer will probably get the job done, but it’ll take a bit and some mental gymnastics if my body isn’t otherwise cooperating. The Domi 2 just works.

All of that is to say: it’s stronger than the Magic Wand Mini. By a lot.

But that’s also part of its downside. While the Magic Wand Mini’s lowest settings will allow you to tease yourself or casually slide into sexual play, the Domi 2 doesn’t. It’s a jackhammer.

This is where the Magic Wand Mini may win out for you. If you’re sensitive to vibrations – or don’t usually want a sexual power tool – the Mini might actually just be the clear winner for you. It offers a wider breadth of vibration intensity – and the lowest intensity starts much, much lower than the Domi 2’s lowest intensity does.

Comparing the actual timbre of vibrations, the Domi 2’s vibrations are extremely deep; “muscle-massaging” is the term that comes to mind. While the full-sized Magic Wands reach that same type of deep, rumbly vibrations, the Magic Wand Mini does not. The vibrations are still decently strong, but they’re much-more surface level than their full-sized counterparts.

Magic Wand Mini vs Lovense Domi 2: Noise Level

If you’re ever going for quiet discretion, let me be clear: wand massagers are not your friend. Regardless of size (whether a full-size wand or a mini wand), wand massagers are designed for power. And power, unfortunately, tends to come with a decent chunk of noise. So, if you need something whisper-quiet, a wand massager will just never be it.

When comparing the Magic Wand Mini vs Lovense Domi 2, however, out of the two, the Magic Wand Mini is definitely the quieter option. It still makes a noticeable hum while the vibrator is on, but it’s a lot-less noticeable than the Domi 2’s noise. The Domi 2 has a bit of a high-pitched whine to it while the Magic Wand Mini’s noise is more of a loud hum.

In real-world sounds, the Magic Wand Mini feels a bit more like the loud buzz of an air conditioning unit while the Domi 2 feels a lot more like listening to someone using a kitchen appliance. Both are equally noticeable if you’re listening for them, but the kitchen appliance has a more high-pitched, unusual noise that makes your ears perk up for it.

Both massagers can easily be heard inside of the same room. Both seem to be audible outside of a closed door as well; if you play some louder music or television, you can manage to hide some of the buzz, but these aren’t going to be vibrators you can easily pull out without worrying about noise. I highly recommend very loud, cinema-level background noise or having an empty house.

That being said: the Magic Wand Mini is noticeably quieter than the full-sized wand massagers, so there is a bit of noise reduction. That isn’t saying a lot, however, as the full-sized wands sound like tools that belong in a garage.

Magic Wand Mini vs Lovense Domi 2: Size and Handling

Both of these mini wand massagers are pretty top-heavy. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing – but it affects handling. Since most of the motors and “heavy shit” are located in the tip of the wand, it can make the wand’s tip much heavier than the handle.

When held from their intended grip spot (with a hand fully wrapped around the handle at the exact spot my thumb has access to the buttons), the Lovense Domi 2 feels slightly heavier – by a bit. It’s a negligible difference, but it’s a difference.

The Domi 2 also just feels more “solid” – and like there’s more weight in the handle itself. If I had to guess, that’s from a mixture of two things: the Domi 2 literally does have more weight as it needs all of the parts to manage Bluetooth functionality AND the handle is made from a matte plastic (versus a glossy plastic) which makes it feel a bit more sturdy.

A hand in front of a blue background is gripping a vibrator to show the length of the vibrators with two images side-by-side. On the left-side, the hand is gripping the Magic Wand Mini - which is nowhere near the person's elbow. On the right, the hand is gripping the Magic Wand Rechargeable which is long enough to come up to the elbow.
Left: Magic Wand Mini vs Right: Magic Wand Rechargeable Full-Size

Speaking of gripping the handle, I prefer the Domi 2’s handle if my hands are dry – and the Magic Wand Mini’s handle if my hands are lube-y. The Mini’s slightly-flared handle base helps keep it in my hand when things aren’t nicely grippy. On the other hand, the Domi 2’s slimmer handle diameter – and lightly textured handle – make it much more pleasant to grip if my hands don’t need any help gripping.

Regardless, both wand massagers are leagues and leagues above the handling of a full-sized wand massager. Both are much lighter, much easier to handle, and much less tiring to grip and hold in place. So while they have their individual differences, if you’re looking to escape the “hard to handle” issue of full-size wand massagers, both of them will get the job done – and do it well.

Magic Wand Mini vs Lovense Domi 2: Online Functionality

This isn’t even a contest. The Magic Wand Mini offers zero online functionality. It has the buttons on the handle, and that’s that. There is no remote control functionality, online control, or digital control functionality. What you see is what you get.

The Lovense Domi 2, however, offers everything that the Lovense sex toy app can bring to life. This includes:

  • Someone else controlling the vibrator from a continent away
  • Controlling the vibrator visually/locally from the cell phone sitting next to it
  • Pairing the Domi 2 with a camsite for tipping or model control
  • Domi 2 will sync to music – and vibrate to music
  • Vibrate to the sound of any surrounding noise that your cell phone can pick up
  • Domi 2 will vibrate to your acceleration – like as a passenger in a car or while riding your bicycle
  • Create customized patterns and save them for Domi 2 to vibrate to
  • Receive customized patterns from a lover (or stranger) to enjoy even if the other person isn’t available for real-time play
  • Sync up the vibrations of the Domi 2 to the movement of another toy – like the Lovense Max or other movement-focused toys

So, essentially, Lovense is at the cutting edge of what a remote-controlled, app-controlled vibrator can do while the Magic Wand Mini offers absolutely none of it. That will either be a benefit – or unwanted – depending on your play style.

I have a ton more information about the reliability in my Lovense Domi 2 review, but as a quick note: the reliability on the Lovense toys – including the Domi 2 – is some of the best I’ve found on the market. It’s my go-to brand for anything app-controlled (like the Ferri panty vibrator, Max penis stroker, Gush penis vibrator, and Hush butt plug).

Is There a Time I’d Use the Magic Wand Mini?

That’s kinda where I get stuck: I don’t think there is… for me.

If I didn’t want the most power possible, I’d probably go with the Magic Wand Mini over the Domi 2. Domi 2’s power is just ridiculously strong – to the point where it can be painful if I’m not already aroused.

But if I needed a toy with gentler vibrations, I’d probably pick a different vibrator in the first place. I wouldn’t be pulling out a wand massager.

If I’m pulling out the wand massager, I want power – and for that, I’ll always go with the Lovense Domi 2 – hands-down. Every time. Not only is it, simply, just more powerful, but it also has a bunch of app-enabled features that give me different ways to play with it.

One way I’d go with the Mini Magic Wand: if attachments were of vital importance to me. While the Lovense Domi 2 offers a few attachments, the Magic Wand Mini has a more “standard” head shape – and is likely to better fit some of the petite/mini wand massager attachments out there. The Domi 2’s sphere-like head doesn’t really make it a candidate for fitting most of the attachments out there.

As Magic Wands tend to be household names, I’d also expect to see more Magic Wand Mini attachments specifically designed for the vibe – whereas the Domi 2 has been out for years, and it doesn’t tend to gather as much manufacturer attention.

So, that pretty much ends the Magic Wand Mini vs Lovense Domi 2 comparison.

Do you want the most power possible AND online play functionality? Go with the Lovense Domi 2.

Do you want strong vibrations that aren’t quite-Magic-Wand-level – but come in an easier-to-handle package? Go with the Magic Wand Mini.
