Broken is an adult DVD produced by Vivid Entertainment Group and Teravision and sold by this adult store. It’s a one-disk adult movie that runs an hour and fifteen minutes. It’s directed by Dave Navarro and Sancho.The main star of this movie is Sasha Grey, but Dave Navarro, Marco Banderas, Audrey Bitoni, Jenna Haze, Kayla Paige, Tommy Gunn, Lisa Daniels, Mark Davis, Victoria Sin, and Spyder Jonez all star in this as well.
Broken seems to be intended as an artsy pornographic movie. There isn’t much of a story to it, but it is much of an “alternative” porn than any other movie that I’ve ever seen. Not just in a BDSM way – the movie’s use of dark colors, filters, camera techniques, and other artsy things just really makes it come across and lot more “dark” and “artsy” than just made for arousal. Because of this along with some of the subject matter, I’d say that this definitely would fall under the “Fetish” or BDSM movie category.
That having been said, I also have to say that I don’t find this to be a movie with a plot. While the description on the back of the box makes it sound like some sort of plot is in the movie, I really didn’t find much of one. The main character, Sasha Grey, seems to be at a bad place at the beginning of the movie and at the end of the movie, she ends in the same bad place with nothing in between but sex scenes. It mostly is just a collection of five different sex scenes.
The movie starts off with us watching Sasha Grey, the main character, cry while masturbating. It really just seems to be an awkward scene in general. My friends said they found it to be somewhat hot, but I was just really confused as to why she was crying. The masturbation is mostly just mindless masturbation – there doesn’t seem to be any pleasure or purpose out of it.
After that, we move into a scene between Sasha Grey and Mark Davis. The color in this scene is really awkward. It’s all gone and the white is really, really taking over the scene itself. It’s mostly just in black and white, but they also chose to use a white background and some filters to really wash all of it out. The music is really odd for what you’d expect out of a pornographic movie. It’s mostly some sort of French song with vocals in it. The music doesn’t really detract from the scene at all, but it does make you kinda go “what the hell is going on” when you see the things that the two of them are doing on camera. Sasha Grey and Mark Davis do some really kinky things in this scene. It includes some really rough fingering, some hard choking (he lifts her up by her neck), pushing her around, and barking commands at her. Sasha Grey starts crying during the scene after being forced roughly to take Davis’s dick into her mouth. They end the scene with some rough sex mixed with more choking and other BDSM-y things.
My friends and I agreed that this is definitely a hot scene. It’s a nice use of BDSM elements to come together where Sasha Grey obviously plays the submissive in this trist. However, since consent was never discussed or even hinted at, we, as the audience, were left feeling a little confused because she was getting so hurt without any sort of show of compassion from Davis. This scene ends with Sasha Grey taking Davis’s cum into her mouth then going into the bathroom, spitting it in a spoon, and using a needle to take it up her arm. This caused lots of discussion because well…what in the world is she doing? Unfortunately, the movie honestly never really explains it.
This next scene begins the giant “holy crap” scene of this entire movie. I say “holy crap” because it is way too long. This scene lasts about fifty minutes of really the same stuff going on over and over. It’s really the scene that eats up the vast majority of this entire production. The scene is sprinkled with lots of filters such as black and white, messed up color, and saturation of color. The filters get in the way if you are attempting to enjoy it as a masturbatory aid, but watching it as a movie itself, it adds to the film. My friends and I got the impression that, while watching it, that this pornographic movie was attempting to make fun of the business of pornography and not take itself so seriously. The music was a little distracting during the scenes, but the actual moaning and sex seemed to be enjoyed by the participants without any of the “screeching” I’m used to, so it was a welcome change.
What makes this scene so long and confusing is that it’s actually four different scenes all being done at the same time. You see, we’re in a porn-producing studio with three corners each dedicated to their own porn movies. Two of the corners have male/female scenes going on while the last corner has a female/female scene going on. After Sasha Grey watches from the balcony for a bit, she chooses to go downstairs to the studio and ends up giving head to one of the cameraman. In that scene, you actually get to watch her give a blowjob to Marco Banderas from a first-person point of view because the cameraman chooses to videotape her instead of the scenes.
Another one of the scenes going on is between Jenna Haze and Tommy Gunn. Tommy Gunn is the “regular” pizza man and brings her pizza. Soon after, they are taking off their clothes. In a slightly mocking manner, the editting team decided to mandatorily “fast forward” through all of their dialogue straight to the part where they are getting naked. It earned a giggle out of the group and myself because it just seemed so out of place in a regular pornographic movie.
In another scene, Victoria Sin and Spyder Jonez are having a regular sex scene. This one is really probably one of my least favorite scenes out of the movie. It’s nothing horrible, but I just wasn’t fond of the tattoos that were all over his body. He has leg sleeves, arm sleeves, and some along his back. Plus, I just don’t think there was much chemistry between the two of them at all. However, my friends didn’t think he was that horrible looking and they enjoyed looking at his tattoos even though they didn’t enjoy his sex scene.
The last scene going on is a girl on girl scene between Lisa Daniels and Kayla Paige. They start off with lots of hot foreplay then move into using sex toys on one another. At some point, they actually end doing a standing 69 position. While it was hot that they managed to do it, from a practical point of view, all I could think of was that the girl on top’s arms must be tired while the one on the bottom’s blood must be going to her head. My friends and the boyfriend didn’t have that problem though and just found it plain and simply arousing.
So after this regular vanilla sex goes on between all of the couples, another director breaks up Sasha Grey and Marco Banderas. (Not sure why. We don’t get to hear it – we just see it.) From there, he goes back to filming and Sasha decides to take her talents elsewhere. What she does is that she goes to each of the scenes in turn and turns them kinky by playing the Dominatrix to the woman of the couple. She forces her to screw the guy harder or forces her down onto his dick during a blowjob. She says all sorts of dirty things, and all-in-all, she doesn’t make a bad Dominant honestly. Or at least, she’s a Dominant that knows how to talk dirty. She goes from each couple “spicing” up their sex scene and making it a lot more hot and kinky. After all of the finishing shots from the guys, we move on to the fourth scene of the movie.
This scene is between Audrey Bitoni and Marco Banderas. After the porn movies finished, I’d have to imagine he decided to come backstage. Honestly, though, it doesn’t really explain why they’re there – they just are in the backstage. Audrey lays on a director’s chair with her legs spread while we watch Marco eat her out while masturbating himself. From there, they do a couple different sex positions – nothing of much interest. Afterwards, he ejaculates on a backstage mirror, and we watch her lick it off the mirror. Sexy to some people I’m sure, but it just wasn’t to me.
The final scene is in the same place where Sasha Grey and Marc Davis had sex in the first scene. (The black and white room) I won’t spoil what happens, but I will say that it involves Sasha being a Dominant, a gun, and a condom. That’s all I’ll say. :) However, I will say that it doesn’t really clue me into anything about the supposed storyline of this adult film. I’m still confused why Sasha was “doing” cum and why the final scene actually happened. After you finish watching the final scene, I recommend you go under “Extras”, then “Repairing Broken”, and watch the Alternative Ending for Broken. It brings some extra questions into the picture.
The extras in general are the basic extras that you would expect from an adult movie. Sometimes I wonder why they bother to put some of these extras on every movie produced, but I’m sure, out there, someone cares more about extras than I do. Under the “Repairing Broken” link, you get behind-the-scenes information like the alternative ending, how they picked the location, on the set during filming, and why they chose the concept. All of the behind-the-scenes really is behind the scenes and seems like an “indie-type” of look into the production of the movie itself. There aren’t interviews – it’s like you sit in on their own discussions and adventure.
The “online predators” link takes you to information about how to use the DVD-rom aspect of the porn as well as the official links to websites. Nothing interesting. The “Shooting gallery”, unlike most other adult DVDs, isn’t actually a slideshow of pictures. Instead, it’s a video of the pictures actually being taken which is kinda neat. Trailer Trash is actually just quite a few different trailers for other movies the companies have produced.
Regardless, the entire movie was put together in a pretty artsy manner. While my friends and I watched it for the sake of watching an artsy movie, I could easily see how this would be very arousing if you were looking for some alternative/BDSM-y porn. However, this does not have a story to it which by the cover, I expected a story from looking at the cover and the back of the DVD, but despite there not being a story, I wasn’t horribly disappointed. It still provided really edgy sex in a way that made the DVD fun to watch – even if we weren’t there for arousing purposes.
