I really wanted to like this DVD from Babeland – I did. Tristan Taormino seems like a great presenter, and from what I’ve heard, she’s always been one packed with amazing information. That’s why I was really surprised by this DVD. It just wasn’t what I was expecting.
Tristan Taormino’s Expert Guide to Oral Sex: Fellatio is the second in a two part series. The first part was obviously about cunnilingus. This is a one-disk DVD, so everything is contained on one disk. This instructional sex DVD was produced by Vivid Entertainment (As part of their Vivid Ed series) and Smart Ass Productions. It runs about 90 minutes which feels about right when watching it. As one could imagine, Tristan Taormino was the start of the entire production and while she didn’t do any explicit parts, she was the one who spent the time teaching.
The DVD is actually organized pretty nicely. First off, we start off with all of the basics and Tristan pretty much walks us through the blowjob step-by step. After that’s over, we go on to watch real-life couples apply the techniques as well as we receive further instruction from Tristan. However, one that first basics scene is over, Tristan is a lot less involved and just does voice-overs instead of being right in the action.
The scene selection actually works out pretty nicely. After the first introduction scene, you can actually choose to have Tristan voice-over instruct over the blowjob scenes or not. If you choose for her not to, you won’t watch anything but the action, but if you choose to, you’ll see the pop-up suggestions as well as Tristan will sometimes voice-over some of the action. In each of the scenes, you can also go further in and choose which part of the scene you want to see. It can include categories like “Interview”, “Tease”, “Him on Bed”, and “69”, and “Standing on Bed”. (That’s the one between Kaiya and Alec)
The DVD starts off with Tristan giving an anatomy lesson to her “pupils” which is like nine women sitting in a room together watching. She uses a diagram on a giant posterboard to point out all of the points of the penis. She honestly doesn’t do much to explain what each part does, but it is clear what each part is. She then brings out a real-life penis-owner (Christian) to point out the parts on a real penis. I was disappointed when all it did is freeze frame on his penis and write-out the parts on the screen – I think it would have been more educational if she had pointed them all out in real-time, but I can understand if trying to get this filmed would be too difficult. After that, we get to see Roxy DeVille as well. Tristan talks to them about what they enjoy in a blow-job as well as other things like their ejaculate practices. After that, Tristan sits next to the couple while Roxy is on her knees giving a blowjob. Tristan talks through the blowjob and gives some good specific things to do to tease during a blowjob while Roxy does them.
Tristan then moves on to talk about experimentation where she talks about how to try out new techniques. After that, she gives a short excerpt about rhythm where you should start to find a steady rhythm and stick with it to make the guy orgasm. She then opens up the floor for questions where the women ask scripted questions and she gives scripted answers such as “How do I get over my gag reflex?”. That ends that, and we move onto the next scene.
In the second scene, we join Kaiya Lynn and Alec Knight. They talk about why they like blowjobs and what position is their favorite (very briefly) then we get down to the action. I felt that they took awhile doing lots of teasing and making out before his penis was ever even introduced to the scene, but that makes sense if the producers wanted to show the “whole” process. After the teasing was done, they move into him laying on the bed while she gives him oral sex then they move into the 69 position for more oral sex fun. This is still compounding on most of the basics, and a lot of the suggestions that Tristan gives are purely basic ones like “Play with the rest of his body too” or “Show him how turned on you are”. Nothing deeply instructional nor specific is included.
The next couple is Lindsey Meadows and Marcus Leon. I was actually a little bit more pleased with the chemistry between these two people – it was a little more obvious that they had just met, but it was in a good way. Like Tristan had been recommending, Lindsey asked him how he liked it a lot, and he would happily reply. It was nice to see some good communication. Unlike a lot of porn movies, I was impressed by the camera angle. Instead of just focusing on her mouth and his penis, they chose a wider angle that allowed us to see his face as well which was a very nice touch. I actually really enjoyed a point where Marcus asked her to remove her mouth and sensually asks her if she could lightly slap it.
I’d happily admit that this is where I think the “meat and bones” of the movie is at. A lot of the suggestions get a lot more specific, and the couple seems really happy to be playing with each other. Tristan Seems to have some really good suggestions – both in the pop-up boxes and in the voice-overs. The scene with Marcus and Lindsey has a couple different parts: “Interview”, “Hand job“, “On His Back”, “Edge of the Bed”, “On Her Back”, and “Sitting Up”.
After that, we move onto Adrianna Nicole and Alec Knight. They are going to demonstrate some of the advanced techniques to us which is where I thought I’d be lacking in skill, so I was excited about it. First, we started off with some of the Deep Throat techniques. I was a little sad to find that there wasn’t anything specific that would help me give deep throating. The two main points were “Relax your throat” and “Line up his penis with your throat as best as possible”. I was hoping for more help than that. She then hangs her head off the edge of the bed and we watch and they do some face fucking. Nothing really that exciting here. It explains he can take control or she can make him stay still and take control. Then the two move into the final one, “Upside Down” where she pulls herself completely off the bed and is upside down off the bed. It only lasts about two minutes, but that’s probably because this would just be downright painful to do.
After these, we watch the “Styles of Fellatio” which is just a montage of clips from the previous scenes placed into categories like “Sensual”, “Submissive“, “Hand to Mouth”, “Sloppy”, “Sixty-Nine”. After that, the feature itself is finished. However, you can go on to watch some of the extra features that were included.
For one, you can watch the “Blow jobs with an uncircumsized penis” as well as “Prostate Stimulation“.
In “Fellatio with an Uncircumsized Penis”, Tristan takes us through a walk-through of how an uncircumsized penis is different. I was really fond of this because I’ve never seen an uncircumsized penis up close, and we went up close with Marcus to see how it was different and how sensations were felt differently.
In “Prostate Stimulation” we watch Christian and Roxy DeVille again – this time they are in a private sauna-like setting. His butt is hanging off the edge of the tub and supported by a Liberator Wedge. She inserts a toy into him while giving him his blowjob and Tristan talks about some of the different types of toys, different toy materials, where the prostate is, and why having the prostate stimulated feels pleasurable. They did use Astroglide which is odd since most sex-toy lovers reject it, but to each their own. Roxy also dons a glove and pleasures him that way.
The special features weren’t really “separate” from the action itself, but it includes Cast Interviews, Vivid Products, Safer Sex, Behind the Scenes, Trailers, and Vivid’s website. I liked that the “Safer Sex” feature talks about how to avoid STDs and using condoms during fellatio. It even talks about the different types of condoms and which ones are best for oral sex.
The Behind the Scenes basically just follows around the actors as they get ready for the movie itself. I actually liked watching this because it shows Tristan when she’s relaxed which is so much more awesome. For example, she’d ask the actors what they were comfortable with before asking them to do it and was just generally an all-around sweetheart.
They even included some behind-the-scenes action about the actual sex scenes including some bloopers. I was actually pretty excited about a behind-the-scenes lube taste testing that Tristan did to see which flavored lubricants were yummiest. I actually added Sliquid to my wishlist based on their happy outcome of it. Tristan actually recommended the Hydrosmooth lubricant for sex during this test, and I gotta say – It’s my favorite water-based lubricant, and it just made me happy to hear that.
I really did enjoy how real the “actors” looked. In many of the scenes, I could see the couples as people who were real people – not just people who were hired to perform in this. In fact, in one of the scenes, the guy actually had stretch marks on him and the girl looked like a regular woman you’d find on the street. Most of the couples were nice couples and seemed to have great chemistry as a couple.
I was really disappointed in Tristan Taormino. She seemed extremely stiff, and most of her lines were read like they really were read straight off a teleprompter. I think the DVD would have gained more value to me if Tristan seemed more comfortable and knowledgeable about what she was talking about – not just reading it off an off-screen camera. I’m sure she is knowledgeable about everything that was covered on the DVD, but I wish they would have just let her talk instead of scripted lines.
I was also a little disappointed about the scenes themselves. Now, I went into this expecting for their to be some sex scenes, but I didn’t expect anything like this. It’s more oral sex than instruction honestly, and while that’s fine for most viewers, I actually wanted to learn something from the DVD. Instead, Tristan would speak or give an instruction and the actors would do it for about two minutes before moving onto something else. While it was nice to see the techniques fully illustrated, a lot of the techniques were things that I really needed illustrated per say. For example, one of the techniques was “take it slowly and tease him”, so she did that for awhile. It’s just something that I feel would have been more useful if there were exacts.
When I went into this DVD, I was expecting exacts. For example, specific handjob and blowjob techniques that would really drive him crazy or other neat things like that, and I didn’t receive too much of specifics which was a little disappointing for me. However, the scene between Lindsey and Marcus did surprise me – it was educational and sensual. I loved it.
I also felt that the “pop-up” instructions that came up during most of the DVD sex scenes were just kinda silly. Most of it seemed like those “Give a better blow-job today!” suggestions you find in women’s magazines. For example, there was “Lick and suck his balls” and “Blow on the head of his cock”.
Overall, I feel like the movie could have gained some definite replayability if Tristan had been a little more comfortable, but aside from that, it does offer some decent advice on giving blowjobs to those who want to improve their technique. It covers most of the basics especially with teasing and pleasuring but really doesn’t cover too much on how to make the male finish. However, since that’s unique to every person, that may be why. I enjoyed the addition of lubricant instead of just spit, and overall, I enjoyed watching the movie and felt like it was informative – but I most likely won’t watch it again. For those who are looking for a sexual and sensual way to learn about blowjobs, this definitely has the sex scenes that will turn you on and make you want to give oral sex to your partner.
