UPDATE DECEMBER 2023: While Tantus still sells rope, it doesn’t look like this older style of rope. I’m unsure if this review would apply to their current rope option, so shop with caution. This sex toy review remains as a reference for anyone who’s interested. While you’re here, why not check out some additional educational info – like online submissive tasks, beginner pegging positions, saran wrap bondage, and enema 101 info.
Ever-expanding their selection of non-insertable toys, Tantus – the creator of those silicone dildos you (and I!) love so much – now offers bondage rope. Crafting nylon rope in various colors – including bright, beautiful colors – Tantus nylon rope goes under their Tantus Knot Fun brand. Each rope is processed, conditioned, and finished by hand in Nevada (in the US). This particular rope is their Nylon Rope in their Green color. It’s 6mm in diameter with a length of 30 feet. It has capped ends for as much smoothness as possible. While I can’t be positive, this color seems to match their Green 4mm Microbondage Nylon Rope if you’re hoping to use a smaller-diameter rope for crotch work or other small, intricate ties.
The Tantus Knot Fun Nylon Rope comes simply packaged in a resealable, see-through plastic bag. With the rope, you’ll also get a cute Tantus Knot Fun decal/sticker. The rope doesn’t include any particular care instructions or rope bondage suggestions (like some rope companies do). As a standard resealable bag, this should be recyclable at your local big-box grocery store.
If you’re into bright colors, the Tantus Nylon Rope is going to be right up your alley. The company carries a good variety of different colors. The green is just as neon and as bright as it appears on the Tantus screen – and I’ve done my best to ensure the photo editing makes the colors just as just as true-to-life as possible. In addition to the neon green, Tantus also has a bright-ass pink, fire engine red, and canary yellow. They also have some not-so-intense colors as well. The green is really, really vibrant, though, and we’ve had no issues with the color rubbing off on anything – including skin – during washing or use.
I have to admit, the Tantus Nylon Rope is probably the tightest strand nylon rope that I’ve ever encountered. I’ve used some small business nylon bondage ropes including Agreeable Agony and others. Tantus has some of the tightest braiding I’ve seen. As you can see in the photos, the green rope is the Tantus Nylon Rope while the other pink rope is from Agreeable Agony. Both are nylon.
You’d think the braiding wouldn’t be super important for the use of the rope, but it’s surprisingly important. The tightness of the nylon braiding in the Tantus rope is, for the most part, what I’d consider a downside. In addition to providing even less friction for knots to stay tied tightly, in also produces rope burn much, much more quickly along the skin while tying. While the vibrancy of the Tantus Nylon Rope is gorgeous, you’ll need to give serious consideration to moving very slowly during use of the rope to avoid burning your rope bottoms. I was trying to go more slowly than I thought was necessary, and my bottom still ended up with a small rope burn rash along their thigh.
Along with that, it will make a noticeable difference in the rope marks left behind of the rope. A rope with looser braiding will show more of the “individual strands” in the residual rope marks. The Tantus Nylon Rope is likely to have more of a uniform appearance on the rope marks. None of this affects the actual use of the rope for floor work, but if you’re going for a specific look (for photography or just personal preference), you’ll likely want to keep this in mind while selecting your rope.
The ends of your Tantus Knot Fun braided nylon rope are cleanly finished. It appears that they use some sort of burning method to ensure the nylon doesn’t continue to fray at the ends. To reduce the scratchiness of the burned ends, however, Tantus caps the ends of their rope with a tightly-fitting cap of plastic. This definitely reduces the scratchiness of the usual nylon rope ends. These caps do not catch while doing any ropework – though they can’t be felt along the skin as a difference in texture.
My only complaint with the rope is that it’s made with nylon. This is an entirely personal preference, but I tend to enjoy frictions and other friction-based ties. While they’re possible on hemp and jute and other natural fibers, those ties can be pretty difficult on nylon rope. Imagine the slick surface of nylon, and then imagine it trying to tie up against itself. Hopefully, you realize how much the rope would likely “slide” along itself. The slickness of the nylon rope adds to part of the appeal of using nylon, but it also makes my ties a bit more difficult.
However, despite my preference, it’s worth remembering that hemp and jute tend to be more expensive – and they’re NEVER as vibrant in color as this nylon rope. Natural fibers can also be dangerous for water play. Natural fibers like hemp and jute also require a lot more care. So that’s something to keep in mind.

Plus, quite a few ties are more-than-possible with this rope. I know I’ve used this bright, nylon green for some beautiful ties to contrast with lingerie. This rope lends itself particularly well to long-term wear rope bondage – like hip harnesses or chest harnesses. The nylon isn’t scratchy, and it feels pretty comfortable against the skin. It doesn’t shed any fibers onto the fabric of lingerie, and it doesn’t “catch” on any delicate lingerie either. It also offers synthetic rope options for those who are allergic to natural fibers. It photographs well – that bright green really does show through really wonderfully with photography! It just requires a bit more forethought on my ties – and just because I tend to tie in a different manner than this rope was designed to support.
Another awesome feature of nylon rope is how easy it is to clean. Unlike hemp or other natural fibers, nylon isn’t harmed by regular and thorough washing. Nylon rope also requires no conditioning or extra care. Just put your rope into a delicates/lingerie bag (seriously, do this, or your rope will be the largest knot you’ve ever seen in your life) and then wash with soap in your laundry machine. It can even be put into the dryer on no-heat settings if you want! Your Nylon bondage rope should be washed regularly, but it will especially require washing if it’s used bodily fluids like as a gag or as a crotch rope. As washing doesn’t harm nylon rope, I tend to wash it after every fluid-concerning-use as well as between partners.
Overall, any of the Tantus Nylon Ropes are going to be a good addition to your collection if you’re into nylon rope bondage. In particular, with their affordable price, lovely colors, and easy care, they’re going to be great ropes for beginners. I know that’s what I started off with! Thanks to Tantus for providing this bondage rope for my Tantus Nylon Rope review.
