Welcome to my Fetdom Spreader Bar review!

Designed specifically to hold strong in the face of rough bondage, the Fetdom Spreader Bar is a stainless steel spreader bar that features four built-in bondage points. 35″ in width with the circles coming in at a diameter of 2.8″, this sturdy spreader bar allows for an easy spread of the limbs – while simultaneously providing two extra bondage points to attach any other bondage.

The Fetdom Spreader Bar does not include any built-in bondage clips. Instead, you’ll need to use your own methods to attach your bondage gear to the stainless steel spreader bar. The circular loops each have a thickness of 0.39″. This thickness is too thick for some of my double-sided clips to fit around, so measure your bondage gear to ensure it works with the thickness of the loops. (To ensure you have what you need, however, the Spreader Bar does come with carabiners that fit perfectly on it.)

The Fetdom Spreader Bar includes everything you need to get started using your spreader bar right away. The kit comes with the Fetdom Spreader Bar itself, a set of wrist cuffs, a set of ankle cuffs, and four carabiners to help the cuffs play with the Spreader Bar. The set also includes a black, long drawstring pouch with the “Fetdom” logo on it.

The wrist cuffs are neoprene cuffs that can fit wrists from 6.3″ to 10.2″ in circumference. The ankle cuffs are the same, matching style, and they can fit ankles from 8.3″ to 12.2″ in circumference.

When I first received my Fetdom Spreader Bar, I only received a single set of cuffs and no carabiners. After notifying the helpful support at Fetdom, the second set of cuffs and set of carabiners were sent along.

Fetdom Spreader Bar Review: What Does It Come With?

The Fetdom Spreader Bar comes with the spreader bar itself, four cuffs, four carabiners to attach those cuffs to the spreader bar, and a long, black drawstring bag to store the items. (Note that the bag states “Fetdom” on it – which may not be the discreet storage method you were hoping for. However, the bag can be turned inside out to place the Fetdom logo inside – which turns it into a plain, black bag with nothing distinguishable on it.)

All four of the cuffs are identical. The cuffs are extremely lightweight, and if I had to guess, I’d say they’re made from neoprene material. They’re extremely easy to fasten around the wrists or ankles, and the cuffs include a single D-ring in order to function for bondage. The cuffs do not include locking buckles.

Each set of cuffs also includes a chain with two clips on the end of each end of the chain. These two chains with clips allow you to fasten the sets of cuffs to one another if you choose to use a set of cuffs like handcuffs. The clips are not wide enough to work on the Fetdom Spreader Bar, and if I had to guess, I’d say the clip sets are just part of the standard two-cuff set – which the Fetdom Spreader Bar happens to include four cuffs. So, you get two chains with clips to go with your four cuffs.

Close-up of the cuffs that are included with the Fetdom Spreader Bar. This close-up shows the soft, smooth material of the cuffs as well as a standard, non-locking buckle. The entirety of the cuffs is black with black stitching.

The four carabiners easily thread through the cuffs, and they have a wide-enough mouth to thread through the wide, sturdy rings of the Fetdom Spreader Bar as well. The carabiners are not weighted for weight-bearing purposes (they look and feel more like keychains), so don’t use them for anything that might be potentially dangerous if it breaks. They’re noticeably lighter than the climbing carabiners I use for rope bondage, but they’ll get the cuffs attached to the Spreader Bar, and that’s really all you need from them.

As a note, the carabiners also include locking buckles. They don’t twirl smoothly like my climbing carabiners, but they do provide a locking functionality. This prevents the carabiners from accidentally unfastening themselves.

I wouldn’t call the carabiners or cuffs particularly high-quality, but they’re not junk. They get the job done, and especially if you don’t have your own kink gear, getting a full stainless steel spreader bar AND four cuffs and carabiners at this price point is really A+.

If you’re someone who already has a full collection of cuffs, you can save a bit of cash by choosing to purchase the Fetdom Spreader Bar without the cuffs as well. It’s entirely up to you.

Fetdom Spreader Bar Review: How Sturdy Is It?

One of the Fetdom Spreader Bar’s claims to fame is its serious, durable construction. Even on the product page, Fetdom has multiple examples of large kettlebells being hung off the edges of the spreader bar to show exactly how sturdy the all-metal spreader bar construction is.

And when you receive it in person, you entirely understand. The entire Fetdom Spreader Bar is a super-strong, durable metal. No filler or multiple materials here; just sturdy stainless steel. It doesn’t really bend or offer much plushness. Just powerful, stainless steel that’s (admittedly) slightly chilly to the touch. If you have a problem with breaking spreader bars due to your rambunctious play style, I think the Fetdom Spreader Bar is going to be a fantastic fit. I’m having a really, really hard time thinking about how anyone could possibly break this.

Fetdom Spreader Bar Review: Portability

Despite being so darn sturdy, though, the spreader bar is surprisingly lightweight. It’s only about two pounds. It feels a bit heavier than two pounds because it’s an odd, unwieldy shape, but it doesn’t feel anything like toting around super-heavy toys. Honestly, my toybag is generally heavier than this by a large, large margin. Some of floggers are heavier than this!

However, unlike a lot of spreader bars, the Fetdom Spreader Bar looks exactly how it looks. There is no collapsable functionality to it – and it’s a good 35″ in length. This means it just isn’t going to fit into any sort of toybags unless you have a gigantic flogger case made just for it.

However, unlike other spreader bars, the Fetdom spreader bar doesn’t feature any built-in cuffs. This means that you can remove all of the cuffs – and now you have this metal bar that has four circles in it. Most people will NOT assume this is a spreader bar, and you can make up whatever excuse you’d like while carrying it through a hotel lobby. People haven’t looked twice when I tell them it’s a photography accessory, and that seems to satisfy their curiosity. You could probably also say it was part of a science project, it is designed to hold plants, or it’s part of a project you’re building for work.

So, it isn’t going to be easy to physically hide away (though it is the right size to put it into poster roll tubes from shipping stores), but it’s lightweight and easy to explain away. So it has that going for it.

Fetdom Spreader Bar: What About Use?

You’re going to have a hard time finding a spreader bar that can hold up to rougher play than the Fetdom Spreader Bar. Made from stainless steel, it holds up to some serious, serious playtime. Fetdom’s official product pictures show the spreader bar holding gigantic kettlebells – and the spreader bar easily supports them. While his legs and wrists have been bound, we’ve attempted to break it – and nope. (Literally. We tried to.) There’s no way he can get enough leverage while wearing it to even bend it.

Now, when it isn’t fastened onto anyone, you can get a lot more leverage, and I can get a bit of a bend to it by applying a lot, a lot of pressure (like, my full body weight through my arms). But no breaking. It’s a ridiculously strong spreader bar that you can throw virtually anything at. I’m impressed.

While there are definitely some welding marks near the circles along the Fetdom Spreader Bar, the vast majority of the spreader bar is smooth. We’ve never had any scratches from it during play, and after running my fingers over the entirety of it, I can’t find any rough/scratchy textures to it aside from the welded areas near the circular loops. It has been nicely smoothed out for your play – which can be vital for enjoying yourselves without worry of hurting someone’s skin.

Your biggest consideration during play with the Fetdom Spreader Bar is going to end up being the two innermost cuff circles. Depending on how you use your spreader bar, these circles could end up pressing into skin in an uncomfortable manner. For example, if you use your spreader bar “The Secretary” style (as shown in the picture below), the two innermost circles will press into your partner’s shoulders. This pressure isn’t, necessarily, painful. But it still exists, so you’ll want to plan that into your scene.

A person bound in the Fetdom Spreader bar in front of a window. They have long hair and are wearing a pink sweater. Their wrists are being held near their shoulders by the cuffs encircling their wrists that are attached to the spreader bar. In the center of each palm, there is a see-through glass filled with water. The glass is clearly slanted, and the water looks like it might tip soon.

That being said, a lot of spreader bar use will end up being used in ways that don’t press these innermost circles into skin. If anything, when using it on the ankles, the innermost circles end up being additional bondage points – or handles during intercourse.

Stainless steel runs chilly. As this spreader bar is made from unpainted, pure stainless steel, it feels like steel. That means, during the dead of winter (like right now, for me!), the stainless steel spreader bar is chilly to the touch. It’s downright ice cube-like to go straight from my bedroom floor to someone’s skin. You’ll want to place it near a heater or warm space to warm it up before play if you’re hoping to avoid its chilling effect.

Or leave it next to the draftiest place in your house and enjoy the pseudo-torture when you press it on their skin. Now it has become a perfect tool for your temperature play scenes. It’s all up to you.

Some clips will not work with the Fetdom Spreader Bar. Close-up image of my hand attempting to attach a single-sided clip onto the spreader bar's bondage point. The mouth of the clip is clearly too small to be able to encircle the material of the spreader bar.

None of my double-ended bondage clips will work with the Fetdom Spreader Bar. The thick, sturdy rings of the Spreader Bar are just too thick. Some of my largest locks will thread through the wide rings, but the majority of my locking collection won’t work with it either.
Fetdom has definitely discovered the one item that works great for attaching cuffs to the Spreader Bar though: carabiners. Since the set comes with four carabiners, you will be able to use your set straight out of the packaging if all you have is double-sided clips and locks. (Carabiners are common in rigging and rope bondage, but I don’t see them too often for other types of bondage.)

Fetdom Spreader Bar Review: Final Thoughts

If you want a spreader bar that feels as kinky as it is durable, you probably want the Fetdom Spreader Bar. The stainless steel design ensures that it’s going to hold up to some serious play while the included cuffs and connecting carabiners ensure you can start playing ASAP – even if you haven’t really started amassing kink gear. (Don’t worry. You’ll get gear as you go.)

One of the coolest things about the Fetdom Spreader Bar is how well it can really “grow” with you. This isn’t a spreader bar with built-in cuffs. This, essentially, means you end up with a spreader bar that can really work with you whether you’re brand new to bondage or picking up your 30th bondage cuff.

Want to play with locks? Swap the cuffs out for locking cuffs and some large locks to fasten the cuffs, and you have an instantly-inescapable bondage system. Worried about any permanent bondage as you start? Use velcro cuffs or even silk restraints to fasten the wrists to the spreader bar. Go as hard as you want – or as gentle as you want.

The Fetdom’s simple, yet sturdy, design can take whatever you throw at it – and that’s definitely the coolest part about it. I can hand it to a complete BDSM beginner, and they can have fun. I can hand it to someone who’s been doing kink for 20 years, and they can have fun. Since stainless steel lasts a lifetime, those two couples can be the same people. It’s really a bondage design that can stay with you as your needs and desires change.

The Spreader Bar only really has two downsides: a) the interior, circles (designed for the wrist cuffs) can press into skin in various positions. b) the stainless steel material of the spreader bar (which gives it its longevity) also happens to run cold most of the time. You’ll want to warm it up before pressing it onto skin.

Otherwise, everything about the Fetdom Spreader Bar offers an easy-to-use spreader bar that’s going to hold up to heavy play with ease. And that’s all we really want out of our spreader bars, isn’t it?

Summary

Especially if you play hard, the Fetdom Spreader Bar offers a sturdy, strong backbone for binding your favorite bondage gear. The included cuffs ensure you can use the Fetdom Spreader Bar right away, but I love the fact that the Spreader Bar’s design allows you to really dig into the flexibility of any of your fantasies.

Made from stainless steel, the Fetdom Spreader Bar is smooth to the touch (though regularly chilly too!) and sturdy AF. I can’t imagine any way you’d be able to break this before hurting your partner’s wrists/ankles or ripping your bondage cuffs. It really is very strong.

You’ll want to plan ahead for the Fetdom Spreader Bar’s interior loops (to ensure they don’t press against flesh in unintended ways), but that’s about the only real complaint. The sturdy, simple design makes this a spreader bar that can work for a (literal) lifetime – and can be used with any of the kink gear you own now – or in the future.
