UPDATE AUGUST 2024: This sex blanket is no longer in production; I’d recommend going with a Travel Sized Liberator Throw if you want something that’s similar. This sex toy review remains as a reference. A towel designed specifically for all of the needs of sex, the Cumpanion, by Anna Rae, is a soft, medium-sized towel made from plush microfiber and satin trim for a gentle experience. 24″ by 15″ in size in an oval shape, this towel was designed to be large enough to go under bodies during sex – and to be soft enough to clean up afterwards. The Cumpanion features a reversible pocket for easier handling and discreet cleaning of messes.
The Cumpanion will come discreetly shipped to your door. It doesn’t have any particular packaging, and since it’s pretty simple to use, it doesn’t have any included instructions either.
The first thing you’ll pick out about this sex towel is exactly how soft it is. The choice of material was one of the number one considerations when By Anna Rae was considering how to bring her sex towel idea to fruition. The towel looks exactly as soft as it appears in the photos. It feels more like a soft, comfortable blanket along the skin instead of a scratchy material. The satin-like edges look and feel just as nice, and they add a pleasant, pulled-together look to the entire towel as well.
The Cumpanion wasn’t really designed for absorption. Don’t expect to put this on a puddle on the floor and to have it absorb the liquids. Instead, the Cumpanion cloth was clearly designed for softness and a gentle way to clean up surface fluids like lubricant. It’ll feel nice on the skin – not as a cloth to clean up the floor if your diaper play happens to get a bit too wild.
Perfect as a handlehold or a discreet way to hide any stains (such as blood or anything else that makes you shy), the Cumpanion comes equipped with a small pocket. Made from the same softness as the rest of the towel, this little pocket easily reverses back and forth. It can be used as a little hand-hold to easily use the towel – or reversed to clean up the undesired mess and then reversed again to hide it.
While the Cumpanion sex cloth was primarily designed as a soft cloth to easily clean up any messes after sex, the creator also designed this cloth to work as a preventionary measure for sexual messes too. The cloth is large enough to fit underneath a body to work as a towel to keep bedding from getting wet from sex. Just pick up the Cumpanion, and the bedding will be dry for sleep afterwards. It works particularly well for this purpose. As mentioned above, it’s not going to absorb a lot of liquid, so if you or your partner are known for squirting, you might want to add a couple layers in order to absorb all of the liquid. For most sex, though, the Cumpanion doesn’t lead to absorb a lot of liquid, and it works just fine to clean up errant messes.
Does the Cumpanion sound awesome to you? Well, it’s a product made by a small businesswoman named Anna Rae. Right now, every Cumpanion is delicately and painstakingly made by hand by Anna herself.
Like any fabric, this towel can be easily washed in the washing machine. I’d recommend washing it on a delicate cycle – at least as many of these first Cumpanion towels are hand-made with love. Hanging the Cumpanion up to dry should also be considered – but I’ve gotten away with drying it on tumble dry in the dryer. You could also hand-wash the entire towel if you prefer. It’s really up to you. The first wash, it did seem to leave a bit more fluff behind in the dryer trap, but after the initial wash, it’s had no problems. It didn’t shrink nor get rougher after the wash. In fact, I’d say it actually got a bit softer!
Of course, like with any towel, getting it clean is just as important as how nice it feels. The Cumpanion seems to clean relatively easily in the wash. If you’re going to get any particularly deep stains on the towel (such as blood), I’d recommend getting it into cold water ASAP. The microfiber seems particularly good with not letting stains or liquids seep into it – which is why it doesn’t seem to do so hot with absorption.
Overall, the Cumpanion sex towel, while not for everyone, is going to fill a void that can’t be easily found on the market today. It’s a towel specifically designed for sex – and it fulfills that purpose well. It’s soft enough on the skin to even touch sensitive body parts after orgasm, and it’s large enough to function as a miniature towel to keep the bed dry. It cleans up easily, and the towel looks like a sensual sex accessory – instead of that washcloth you keep in the bathroom to clean up spills. Thanks to By Anna Rae for providing this sex towel for my Cumpanion Towel for review.
