Today’s the day! Literally. Today, Lovense releases its latest upgrade on its best-selling Lush vibrator. That’s exactly why I’m here to answer the first question that comes up: Should I Upgrade to the Lovense Lush 4?

The new Lovense Lush 4 marks the fourth generation of this IndieGogo-funded vibrator that was released back in 2015. It came out to a lot of fanfare with its iconic pink tail becoming one of the most-requested vibrators out there.

Improving on a design that’s 10 years old now (happy 10th anniversary, Lush!), the new Lovense 4 has:

  • Shiny new LED multi-color lights on the tail. The Lush 3 had a single red light. The Lush 4 offers 3 different lights – each with 7 color options. This offers more immersive and interactive play with anyone watching you use the Lush 4.
  • A longer-lasting sex toy battery with fast-charging capabilities to offer a full hour’s play with a 5 minute charge. It charges 40% faster to a full battery than the Lush 3 did.
  • Stronger charging cable magnets to reduce accidental slippage of the cord while charging.
  • A more oval-shaped tip with a decorative electroplated piece for a futuristic look. This will have minimal impact on usage, but it’s worth noting.

Between the Lovense Lush 3 and the Lovense Lush 4, the toy maintains:

  • The same waterproof capabilities. This boy is IPX7 waterproof (submergible for easy cleaning).
  • The same vibrations per minute. The same motor model with up to 7,000 vibrations per minute!
  • Same weight (down to the gram even).
  • The same app (though the app-controlled capabilities have changed with the Lush 4 to include more functionality with the additional lights).

Should I upgrade to the Lovense Lush 4? Well, it depends on which Lovense Lush you have. Let’s compare each one of the Lovense generations to figure out whether the new Lush vibrator meets your needs.

Lovense Lush 3 vs Lush 4

Should I upgrade to the Lovense Lush 4? It might be worth the upgrade if:

  • You play regularly with partners or play online. The “lightshow” is definitely one of the big selling points of the Lovense Lush 4 vibrator. This “lightshow” makes it much easier for anyone watching you use the toy to understand exactly what you’re feeling at any given moment. It’s also just, literally, more fun to watch. Shiny lights are much cooler than a static red light.
  • You regularly kill the battery and/or forget to charge it. Getting a full hour’s playtime off a little 5 minute charge is huge. If you’re someone who regularly has to “pass” on using a toy you wanted to use because you forgot to charge it, you’re in luck. In the time it takes you to pee and gather your stuff, you’ll charge up a whole hour’s playtime.
  • The magnetic charging cable frustrates you. I’ve played the “carefully balance the cable on the carefully-balanced sex toy” charging game more times than I’d like. If you use the Lush 3 enough that the charging process is annoying you, the Lush 4 has a noticeably stronger recharging magnet. It’s much less fiddly than my 3.

You SHOULDN’T upgrade if:

  • You just want more power. Both the Lush 3 and Lush 4 have the same internal motor and vibrations per minute. They feel exactly the same when held in my hands.
  • You want a quieter vibrator. Technically, the Lush 4 can be one itsy-bitsy decibel louder than the Lush 3. But in practice, they both sound exactly the same when held in my hands or in my vagina. Neither is louder or softer. (The Lush vibrator is already quiet enough for public play, so unless you’re heading to a library, I really think you’re solid on this one.)
  • You’re hoping for it to hit a different spot internally. Both the Lush 3 and Lush 4 have the same insertable design. They end up in the exact same place when inserted.

Lovense Lush 2 vs Lush 4

If you’re like me, you’ve had a Lovense Lush 2 for awhile, and you’ve been quite happy with it for awhile now. Sure, the Lush 3 looked like it had some shiny upgrades, but why pay the money if you’re already a happy, orgasmic camper on the one you already own?

Well, if you bought a Lush 2 like I did, the two generations have offered these upgrades when you compare the 2 to the 4:

  • Better connectivity through a new placement of the antenna for optimal wireless connectivity
  • More rigidity in the tail to better hug the body
  • Magnetic charging for better waterproof capabilities and easier charging
  • A multi-color LED light at the base of the tail for an interactive experience with a lover or viewers who may be watching
  • A larger battery life, now capable of fast-charging a workable level of juice with just a 5 minute charge

Should I upgrade to the Lovense Lush 4? Realistically, as someone who owns and uses them both, the biggest reason the average person would want to upgrade to the Lush 4 is the new firmness of that vibrator tail. The Lush 2’s tail is very floppy and wiggly. Both the Lush 3 and 4 added decent firmness to the tail, allowing it to better conform around your body.

In practice, this means that you can run the tail of the Lush 3 or 4 up between your labia, nestling it against the clitoris, for some residual vibration intensity. It’s not a lot of extra sensation, but every little bit makes a difference – especially during public play. The difference between “your vibrator turned off” and “the vibrator hums to life” makes a gigantic difference for clitoral stimulation when you were otherwise getting none.

The Lush 3 and 4’s firmer tail means that it does a better job of staying up against the clit like you positioned it to. My Lush 2’s tail often slides to the side (with any bit of wetness ;) ) and has a habit of curling up on itself as well.

I haven’t noticed any discomfort from the firmer design of the tail on the 3 or 4. It just really seems like a light quality-of-life improvement that helps me, a very clitoris-focused person, enjoy the Lush even more.

An average person might also appreciate the longer battery life. Especially as Lithium batteries get less functional as they age, the newness of the Lush 4 – plus its actual expanded battery capacity – means that the average person can get multiple uses out of a single battery top up. If you’re someone who likes to play for hours or go for public play scenarios, you’ll also really appreciate that extra battery.

Of course, if you’re someone who uses the Lush 4 while you have an audience (whether that’s on camsites or just for a lover who’s watching across your bed), it can very well be worth the upgrade for that multi-color LED light at the base. It really makes the Lush 4 more interactive. Instead of simply watching your expressions, anyone watching you enjoy the Lush 4 can also visually see exactly what you’re feeling, adding another layer of eroticism to the whole thing.

Lovense Lush 1 vs Lush 4

If you have the first generation of the Lush, congrats! I’m not surprised; every one of my Lovense toys is built surprisingly well, and every one of mine has lasted multiple years as well. I have yet to need to replace one. (I know the day is coming when I’ll have to rebuy my Domi 2, but until then, it’s been going strong!)

If you have been using the Lush 1, a lot of updates have happened since then.

The release of the Lush 2 added:

  • Better connectivity through movement of the antenna
  • A button that’s now located at the end of the “tail” for better control
  • A larger motor for more powerful vibrations
  • A stouter, less-oval-shaped design crafted to better target the g-spot

Then the release of the Lush 3 vibrator added:

  • Better connectivity through a new placement in that antenna (again!)
  • More rigidity in the tail to better “hug” the body
  • Magnetic charging for easier charging and better waterproof capabilities
  • A larger battery that dramatically improved the battery life

Finally, this latest Lovense Lush 4 release added:

  • A multi-color LED light on the tail for visual, interactive play
  • A battery capable of fast charging. A 5 minute charge can give you an hour of playtime if you realize your toy is on empty.

It’s worth upgrading to the new Lovense Lush 4 if you:

  • Have connectivity issues. There have been multiple connectivity updates since your original Lush 1 came out, and if you find the signal drops off or doesn’t listen, it’s definitely worth it to get the new Lovense Lush 4.
  • Often run out the battery. The OG Lush had a battery life of a little over 2 hours. The 4 lasts 350 minutes on the gentlest vibration levels and 122 minutes on the 3rd-strongest vibration levels. This is almost double the battery life of the Lush 1.
  • Often forget to charge the battery. The new Lovense Lush 4’s fast charging capabilities are pretty unheard of in sex toys. A five minute charge will give you a full hour’s playtime, though, so if you often go “ugh, I can’t use the Lush because I forgot to charge it”, the new Lush 4 is your godsend.
  • Play online or with a partner. The multi-color light on the tail is a fun visual upgrade if you often play with others. You probably don’t care much for your own uses, but anyone else watching you enjoy the Lush can get a better idea of what you’re feeling with the multi-color light.

Honestly, though, if you’re a happy camper with your Lush 1, I might just recommend waiting until you need to replace your 1. It’s almost ten years old now, and that’s impressive AF. Even with its build quality, though, it’s reaching the end of its lifespan soon, and you may just want to plan to simply upgrade once your 1 is showing signs of retirement. Your Lush 1 has gotten you this far; you might as well finish it out and save a bit more money until then.

The Lovense Lush 4 Comparison: These Things Don’t Change

Lovense has released four separate iterations of the Lush, and they’ve made various changes (and we’ve touched on above) through each iteration.

However, some things have NOT changed. If you’re looking for a version that does or does not have some of these things, I want to make sure you have that information.

Every single Lovense Lush vibrator generation has:

  • A rigid internal shape. Since the beginning, the Lush has had an internal plastic core (that has the motor and battery inside) that’s covered in a thin, smooth silicone material layer. This means every Lush’s internal “egg” is very rigid; it does not have any plushiness to it. This also means that the vibrations transfer even better. Those vibrations don’t have to fight through layers of excess material.
  • App-controlled functionality. None of the Lovense Lush toys come with a physical remote. All four can be manually controlled via the button on the Lush, but if you want cell phone app remote play, you must download the free app.
  • A bright-ass pink design. If you don’t like pink, I’m sorry. This bright pink tail has become synonymous with the Lovense brand, and they’ve (understandably) stuck with it.

Should I upgrade to the Lovense Lush 4? If it’s to get a different colored vibrator, a physical remote, or a softer, smaller-diameter toy, it just wouldn’t be worth your money.

Lovense Lush 4 Review: I Don’t Even have ONE Lush!

Don’t own a single Lush? Is it even worth buying in the first place?

Hell yes.

I absolutely hate to give you absolutes in anything (we’re all sexual beings who feel pleasure differently), but if you are someone who enjoys vaginal vibrations and/or public play, the Lush vibrator is pretty much my #1 recommendation.

There are some people who may not like the Lush vibrator.

If you’re expecting hands-free orgasms, the Lush vibe may not do it for you. Most vagina-owners require some clitoral pleasure to hit orgasm, and the Lush is very, very specifically aimed at internal and g-spot pleasure. I have never had a hands-free orgasm with the Lush vibrator (of any generation), but I love how pleasurable it feels.

The Lush 4 may or may not hit your g-spot. In certain positions, I can get it to snuggle up to my g-spot. I find that being turned on ahead of time really helps. Laying down and/or curling up also helps, but those aren’t really things you can do with public play. When I’m walking or sitting in public, the Lush occasionally slides away from my g-spot, but I’ve never been concerned about it sliding out in all of the hundreds of times we’ve used our Lush over the generations. It feels best at my g-spot, but the vibrations still feel great if it slides away from my g-spot.

(I’ll take a second here to insert a quick note. I’m someone who can get numb by too many clitoral vibrations without an orgasm. When we’re playing with the Lush, I really enjoy the fact that it doesn’t heavily involve the clitoris. So when we’re done with our public play, I’m aching for some clitoral stimulation AND that stimulation feels ridiculously explosive as soon as I get it.)

If you hate having your cell phone out or around while you play, the Lush might be a poor fit. While you can control the vibrations manually with the button on the tail, that can be a bit annoying. Controlling the Lush sex toy wirelessly requires using a cell phone app. On the bright side, the Lovense app offers this super-cool “music player” mode on your lock screen. The ability to control the vibrations disguises itself as a music player on your lock screen, ensuring you can literally use your phone as a sex toy remote without accidentally getting distracted too much by unlocking it.

Thanks for reading my round-up. Should I upgrade to the Lovense Lush 4? Well, I hope you got the information you needed! If not, you can always reach out to ask any additional questions – and it’ll give me good reasons to update this article again too!
