MerBear Review

Haven’t heard of the MerBear? Well, let me introduce it to you in my MerBear review!

The blue and white MerBear vibrators are sitting upright on a surface with all of their attachment tips laid out next to them. This showcases the two different colors of the two toys when placed next to one another.

What is the MerBear Vibrator?

At first glance, this vibrator is, well, a lot. It was designed that way. Not only is it a tiny bear that looks like it could be cute pepper spray, but it even has multiple hats. And a twist panel! There’s just a whole lot going on.

And “a lot going on” was the whole point. Loli’s Nook crafted the MerBear vibe to be a multi-functional, “all-in-one” vibrator to offer multiple types of stimulation.

The MerBear has:

  • A discreet “bear” design. With the slide panel flipped closed, the vibrator pretends to be a cute facial care item that would look at home next to your sink.
  • Air suction technology that they call “Sound Wave Net” technology. The hole for this suction sensation is hidden behind that flip panel that looks like a bear. Twist, and it’ll reveal the air suction hole.
  • Vibrations. The “handle” houses a vibrating motor. Turn it on, and the handle comes alive with vibrations.
  • Three attachment tips for the vibrations. These tips slide onto the vibrating handle/base to change up sensations. They, technically, allow you to enjoy penetration with the vibrations but not with much substance (we’ll get to that later). I’d say they’re mostly designed for external play.
Two MerBear vibrators next to one another. The blue one has the bear panel twisted open to showcase the air suction hole hidden underneath. The white one showcases the closed panel with a bear design on it.

When the vibrator is not in use, it looks like a little bear with no obvious vibration or air suction capabilities. The attachment tips slip off and can be hidden for a small (shorter than my cell phone) vibrator that’s easy to hide.

And it does ALL of this with a flat base on one side. I know I’m a dork, but I really appreciate a vibrator that can sit upright on flat surfaces. Since I use most of my toys at my computer desk, it means I can set down the toy without any of the toy’s “surfaces” coming in contact with the desk. Since the MerBear is double-sided, that won’t always be the case, but it will be if you’re using the air suction end.

Unlike some sex toys that are designed for the concurrent use of air suction and vibration functions, the MerBear is not. They are located on opposite sides of the toy, and utilizing one function will require you to cover the other with your hand in order to grip the toy. It’s an either/or situation here. (But you can easily flip the vibrator over at any point if you wish to change up your original choice.)

MerBear Review: How Is the Suction?

Loli’s Nook calls their air suction sensations “Sound Wave Net Technology”, and it’s surprisingly effective. Unlike a lot of air suction toys that simply provide vibrations through an open hole, you actually get some real suction out of the tip of the MerBear.

The first and second intensities of the MerBear’s air suction feel best with deeper sucking sensations. Once you get into the higher intensities, it tends to feel closer to vibrations.

While the Sound Wave Net Technology does produce genuine air suction sensations, it doesn’t create ultra-powerful air suction sensations. Despite multiple attempts for this MerBear review, I am unable to orgasm from its air suction. It still feels really pleasurable on the first and second settings, but I find the 3, 4, and 5th suction settings to be less pleasurable for me. There just isn’t enough intensity for me to actually reach orgasm.

The air suction on the MerBear is decently loud, and unlike most air suction toys, I can’t get it to quiet down once it’s pressed into skin. Even when pressed fully into my nipple, with all of my breast tissue surrounding the tip, it still has a lot of sound to it. It’s not quite as loud as a wand massager, but it isn’t far off. I wouldn’t use this with anyone in the same room or people in the room next to me; unless you have loud music or TV shows, this can definitely be heard outside of a closed door. I wouldn’t recommend this as a go-to vibe for people who have roommates.

Since the MerBear vibrator only comes with a single air suction tip size, your clitoris may not fit in the hole. It’s a relatively small hole (one of the smallest I’ve seen), and my nipple barely fits within it. Along with that, it has a “dome” shape that surrounds the hole which can make it hard to easily nestle into tight spots (like between plushier labia).

Cleaning the MerBear Vibrator

Since the MerBear has so many moving parts, I’m going to address sex toy cleaning. That is, it can be a pain.

Luckily, the MerBear is waterproof. This allows you to hold water on top of the MerBear, getting your soapy mixture anywhere you need it.

That’s a lifesaver because the MerBear has a lot of holes and seams where bodily fluids are going to go during regular use. I end up with bodily fluids underneath the sliding “bear” panel when using the air suction end. When using the vibrating end, I end up with bodily fluids around the control buttons and around the panel surrounding the control buttons.

This is a toy I’ve had to take a toothpick to while running water over it – and I can’t say that’s my favorite effort level for cleaning my sex toys.

As a plus, though, the tip of the MerBear’s suction end can be removed for easy cleaning. Simply twist off the silicone tip, and you can tote it into the bathroom for cleaning. However, with the dome-shaped tip, you’ll likely have to push your entire labia into the MerBear to get the air suction on your clitoris, so you’ll still need to bring the MerBear itself into the bathroom to clean. And then clean out around the twistable bear panel.

MerBear Review: How are the Vibrations?

While I was impressed with the air suction, I have to admit I wasn’t as impressed with the vibrations.

They start buzzy, and they only get buzzier on the higher power settings. They don’t have a ton of power behind them, and using the attachment tips makes the problem worse; with the attachment tips on, the highest setting feels like the lowest setting on most vibrators.

The vibrations do exist, but they’re so surface-level that I feel my skin numbing to them faster than I feel it being pleasured. This is compounded by the fact that the toy is so short; there’s no way for my fingers to avoid the numbing problem either, so I’m gripping a toy that makes my hands tingle for awhile after I’m done with it.

I really wouldn’t use this vibrator for its vibrations. The buzziness numbs my clit and fingers pretty quickly, leaving me in a more frustrated spot than where I started.

By “quickly”, I mean that I usually found myself numb to further vibrations within five minutes of starting to use the MerBear’s vibrations – even on the lowest setting. It even made it difficult to swap back to the air suction sensations, which I actually enjoyed.

Vibration-wise, I’d say that the MerBear’s vibrations are best for someone who is extremely sensitive to vibrations – and wants to enjoy the attachment heads. Most of the numbing treatment disappears with the attachment tips because the vibrations are so much softer. If you find that traditional vibrators always tend to overstimulate you, the vibrations of the MerBear, partnered with an attachment tip, might be a good fit.

I will say that the rigid plastic body of the MerBear does make for great pressure. If you’re someone that loves pressing a vibrator firmly against yourself, its plastic surface does that wonderfully.

A MerBear vibrator in blue and white both laying sideways on a table. They both are "wearing" attachment tips, showcasing how the attachment tips have a cut out semi-circle pattern that allows all of the buttons to still be accessible while the attachment tips are on the toy.

MerBear Review: Let’s Talk about Those Removable Tips

The MerBear comes with three removable attachment tips. You simply slide them on top of the vibrating end. They are very easy to slip on and remove. In fact, they’re “easy” enough that they have tugged off while trying to insert the toy. Unlike most attachment tips, they seem specifically designed to be used externally with a super light fit.

In a really cute (and functional!) design, each one of the attachments has a small, U-shaped cut out. This cut-out aligns with the buttons to allow you to still access the controls while using an attachment tip. Now that’s the attention to detail I like to see!

All of the MerBear vibrator attachments sitting upright on a surface. This side profile showcases their different appearances, all detailed in the body of the review. For my MerBear review.

The three included attachments are:

  • A “rabbit ears” tip. These two little prongs protrude from the tip. At rest, there is minimal space between the “ears”, but the ears pull away from each other as easily poking a pillow, so any small spaces could fit between these ears with ease.
  • A “come hither finger” tip. The finger “tip” has a very soft, very slight ripple pattern on it, and it has a semi-flattened tip to provide a broad surface connection wherever you place it. This tip is about the size of one of my pointer fingers, so it’s not large.
  • A “nipple” tip. This looks like a cool roof/dome you’d see on a capital building. This “nipple” is lightly textured, but it’s hard to feel that texture during use. It protrudes straight out from the toy itself, and it doesn’t have any plushiness to it; it feels very firm to squeeze.

All three tips are made from a soft, flexible material. The “rabbit ears” and “finger” tip bend ridiculously easy. Their tips can easily bend all the way backwards to touch the hat itself. The nipple-shaped tip is a bit firmer, and it doesn’t bend, but it does collapse easily under pressure.

An attachment head worn on top of the MerBear is pressed firmly into a white surface. The attachment bends entirely backwards, folding in entirely on itself. For my MerBear review.

The attachments tips are an interesting addition to the MerBear vibrator, but I’m not sure they’re adding much for me. Usually, attachment tips are used to help make vibrations capable of penetration, but the extra-small tips and loose fit mean that there’s not much point in inserting the MerBear. (We did try it, multiple times, and the tip came loose – and there wasn’t much to feel from it.)

That means that the sole point of the attachment tips ends up being external stimulation.

I’d mostly see the attachment tips being useful if you’re someone who is very sensitive to vibrations. If so, using any of the attachment tips allows you to soften up the vibrations and “hover” them over your pleasure spot.

By default, without an attachment, with the firm plastic of the MerBear vibrator itself, you’d have to press the plastic into your body to receive any vibration. If you’re that sensitive, this may be overwhelming. The attachment tips offer protruding shapes that wiggle with the the MerBear’s vibrations, allowing you to “hover” this little tip over your pleasure spots for the lightest touch.

Otherwise, I’m not sure I see much functionality for most people. They’re a neat idea, but they soften up the (already relatively soft) vibrations, and they can’t be inserted. They make achieving any additional pressure (like pushing the toy into your body) impossible because the tips are so flexible and wiggly.

My thumb next to the "Come Hither" attachment head tip. It is about the exactly same size as my thumb. For my MerBear review.

Summary

The MerBear just isn’t an orgasmic toy for me: quite literally. The vibrations are too buzzy and gentle, and the air suction doesn’t get strong enough to get me to orgasm. I’ve tried, multiple times, for this MerBear review, and I haven’t succeeded.

However, if you’re someone who finds that traditional vibrations and air suction toys are much-too-powerful, this might make the MerBear your best friend. Finding a toy designed for softer sensations can be difficult – especially in the air suction sphere of sex toys.

If you’re someone who likes softer sensations, you end up with a toy that’s multifunctional at a budget-friendly price point. You get vibrations and air suction with a sex toy design that’s adorable and discreet. You get a rechargeable toy that’s waterproof for easy cleaning. You get multiple attachment heads, that come with the toy, to easily swap up sensations.

In the end, you end up with 5 different sensations that the vibrator can provide: rigid plastic vibrations, air suction, and vibrations with the 3 attachment tips. That’s a vibrator packed full of rare-to-see options at a price that’s a bit more than a nice meal out.

But I definitely wouldn’t say the MerBear vibrator is for most people.
