LELO Smart Wand Medium Review

LELO Smart Wand Medium
The LELO Smart Wand Medium

UPDATE JANUARY 2024: The Smart Wand 1 has been discontinued for the new Smart Wand 2. This sex toy review remains as a reference for those who are curious. While you’re here, why not check out some additional educational info – like online submissive tasks, beginner pegging positions, saran wrap bondage, and enema 101 info.

The LELO Smart Wand Medium is a plastic and silicone luxury wand massager. This wand massager is rechargeable and available in three luxurious colors. It includes a built-in control pad, is rechargeable, has multiple speeds, and also has a flexible head.

The packaging for this Smart Wand actually took me by surprise. It’s white! I don’t know if I actually can recall any LELO packaging that was white before. I’ve always loved LELO packaging, and this is no different. The box would work well for storage, but it also comes with a satin, black bag that can store the toy. The packaging is very classy and put-together, and it would be a definite “woah!” packaging for gift-giving. The vibrator also comes with a sample size of lubricant, the charger, the storage bag, the warranty information, and the instruction manual as well as an Insignia Brooch.

The Smart Wand Medium is rechargeable. The charging port for this vibrator is at the base of it, and you just plug it in. It’s very simple. I’m not sure, but I think it might use the exact same charger as the Insignia SenseMotion toys; I would need to check to make sure though. It takes about two hours to fully charge, and on that charge, you get about two hours of use. That’s a bit low on use-time compared to how long it takes to charge (I usually like to see use time be about double the charge time), but as most people won’t use it for two hours straight, I don’t think it should be a problem for most.

The SenseTouch is one of the “new” features that LELO put onto this Smart Wand Medium. I honestly can’t say that I’m going to get much use out of it. It seems like it’s just “too” sensitive. The point is that the vibrator only goes to your pre-set vibration setting when it’s in contact with a warm body. Otherwise, the vibrator just stays on low.

The packaging for the LELO Smart Wand Medium

Basically, what happens is, when you turn on SmartTouch mode, the vibrator stays on a low vibration until it comes in contact with a body. Then it goes automatically to high. If you barely graze a surface, it goes to a medium-thing, but then you can barely feel the vibrations. When it’s touched to your skin, you then can adjust its setting by pressing the “-” button to the setting you like. Then, anytime you set it against your body again, it will go back to that setting, but when it’s not touching your body, it will go to the lowest setting. It would be a good addition if it would add stronger vibrations when more pressure was applied, but as it stands, I’m not sure most people need it, and I would rather have seen it leave the vibrator if it lowered the price.

Another view of the packaging

As it stands, the only practical application I can think of is if you’re playing with a partner, and the two of you tend to stop-and-start using the massager. You could place it on a bed next to you and it would automatically turn to low which would conserve power (though how much power, since it’s running a sensor, is negotiable). I’ve tried it many times, and desks and chairs and whatnot don’t seem to activate the sensor. It seems to need something that has to have heat coming from it. It seems to work on the seat of my chair when I get up (since it’s warm), but it doesn’t work on my desk (since it’s not).

The charging port at the base

One of my absolute favorite features of the LELO Smart Wand is the control face. Why? Because it’s nicely coated in the soft, silicone material of the rest of the vibrator, yet the buttons are still raised and easy to press. They press down perfectly. In fact, just pressing down the buttons makes me happy. It’s like the perfect match between too hard to press (to keep you from accidentally switching settings) and being too easy to press (which makes you accidentally switch settings). It’s perfect. Along with this, there’s a “+” button and a “-” button to change the vibration intensities along with the pattern button that rests between those two buttons. It’s really quite easy to use.

The vibrations… Ahh, I’m sure that’s where most people are most curious about the LELO Smart Wand. Well, I’m happy to report that the vibrations are rumbly and strong. They are definitely stronger than most average vibrators and most LELO vibrators as well. They do NOT rival the strength of plug-in wand massagers like the Magic Wand or ridiculous Lovense Domi 2, but they are like in a middle-line between the strength of the Magic Wand and the strength of an average vibrator. For me, personally, the strength of the vibrator was enough though I did find myself wishing for more intensity when on the highest setting.

The size when held in my hand

I find this to be more of a replacement for your average vibrator if you want to bump up the intensity a bit. If you find that your average toys are not getting you to orgasm, you may want to skip this one, as pretty as it is, and go straight to the Magic Wand (but not the Micro!) or something stronger, because this is not the same amount of power as usually can be found in wand massagers.

However, the LELO Smart Wand also is much, much, much quieter. It’s hard to hear the Smart Wand from the across the room with the TV on. Nearly impossible, really. It also, in comparison to the Magic Wand, is much, much smaller, and I find it much easier to hold onto. Plus, when it comes down to it, it certainly does not look nearly as “frightening” as showing the Magic Wand to a new partner.

Another thing to note is that the head the LELO Smart Wand medium is flexible. It’s not insanely flexible like I remember some of the Fairy Wand’s heads being, but it is flexible enough to have some slight wiggle room back and forth. It didn’t keep me from providing the pressure that I like from a wand massager. The head is nice and small enough to work really well without feeling too large, but it’s large enough to cover a good amount of area while still providing pleasurable stimulation. No complaints from me!

LELO also claims this massager is waterproof. However, I can plain-as-day see that the charging port is open for the world to view. There is no silicone cover or anything. For this reason, and because I’m kinda fond of the LELO Smart Wand at this point, I have not put it underwater. I do wonder how it’s waterproof if the charging port is blatantly open like that.

This is about as far as the head of the massager bends

To clean the LELO Smart Wand Medium, you’ll want to use warm water and mild soap, and for my piece of mind, I avoid the charging port that’s on the bottom of the wand massager. This vibrator is only compatible with water-based lubricants, and if you tend to have lube-y hands, make sure to thoroughly clean the portion that’s all silver-y and shine-y to keep lube from building up there. If you want to share this with another partner, it’d be pretty easy to squish up a condom on the head of the vibrator or just to use a glove to cover the top.

Overall, if you want the features of the LELO Smart Wand, have the extra money, and don’t require the “holy crap, I can’t feel my genitals it’s so intense!” vibrations of other wand massagers, the LELO Smart Wand is an okay choice. The SenseTouch technology is just “meh” for me, and certainly not a buying point, but the massager is very pretty and the sleek look and feel of the silicone along with the quiet-ness and smaller size leaves me reaching for this more than my other wand massagers. (Except when some serious power is needed! Then we go back to the other wand massagers).
