UPDATE JANUARY 2024: The Master Series Steed pony bit gag is no longer in production. This sex toy review remains as a reference for anyone interested in this dildo. The Papillon Massager by California Exotics is a two speed vibrator for general body massage and shallow insertion. The toy also aims to promote breast cancer awareness; with every purchase of the Papillon Massager, a donation is made to the Living Beyond Breast Cancer charity.
The vibrator arrives in a plastic box with the product name printed on it in purple. On the box you will also find yellow butterflies which clash with the purple. On the side of the box, there is information regarding the Living Beyond Breast Cancer charity, and a website link for more information, www.lbbc.org .
The toy is a two speed vibrator controlled by a soft push button. It takes two AAA batteries, which aren’t provided. It is made from purple coloured plastic with a yellow butterfly printed on it; again I’m not overly keen on the yellow used.
The plastic is rigid and coated with a velvet matte finish. The toy has a groove running round it, where it has been put together; this can trap dirt but doesn’t seem to cause any irritation.
The vibrator isn’t very large, being 4.5 inches in length total, with less than 4 inches of girth around the tip. The bottom of the toy is flared and rounded to fit into the palm of a hand. At the base, you will find two textured rings, which are meant to be pressed to release the battery compartment. The battery compartment is a little tricky to open, as you need to apply a little pressure. Once opened, simply pop in two AAA batteries, and close the cap so it meets the main body.
I’ve found that once batteries have been inserted into the toy, the cap won’t close completely. I’ve asked my partner to give it a go, as he is stronger than me, but after trying a few times we just can’t get it to seal completely. Even though this toy is designed to be waterproof and does have a thick rubber seal, as it won’t close tightly around the seal, I would advise against submerging it. The massager does still work, even though the cap doesn’t fit properly.
The vibrator has two settings, which are fairly powerful for a toy which uses two AAA batteries. The vibrations are rumbly and rather loud, so I wouldn’t recommend using this toy if you are in shared accommodations.
The button is almost impossible to accidentally knock, as you need to apply some pressure when changing the settings. I’ve noticed that the toy does use batteries up rather quickly, and when they are running low, the vibrations drop significantly.
When using the toy I found that it worked best as a general body massager, rather than as a more intimate massager. The rigidness of the plastic and the rounded tip work well together on achy muscles, and the flared base gives you good control when massaging.
I feel that this would be a good couple’s toy, as its size is easy to handle and it’s perfect for foreplay and general massage. It’s also an option for those who are new to using vibrators, thanks to its small size.
When using the toy as an insertable, I found its shaft a little too short to stimulate my G-spot. The toy’s vibrations are focused at the tip, and as they are stronger than on some toys, I was still able to gain a little pleasure when teasing the vaginal entrance and vulva. I found the tip of the toy to be a little large for pin-point clitoral stimulation, and the vibrations weren’t strong enough to make me orgasm. As the toy is slightly curved it can also be comfortably placed onto the clitoris during sex, adding a little extra stimulation.
Cleaning the toy is easy, but be careful not to get water into the battery compartment. I guess it might only be mine which doesn’t close completely, and others might not experience the same problem. When cleaning the toy, make sure you pay a little additional attention to the groove running round it, as this can trap dirt. The toy doesn’t attract dust, so you can leave this toy in or out of its plastic packaging.
Overall, this massager is a good little vibrator which is great for all over body foreplay. It would be a good couple’s vibrator, particularly if you are new to using sex toys. But if you are looking for a stronger vibrator, aimed more at vaginal penetration, then I would advise trying a different style vibrator. It is great that the company is promoting breast cancer awareness and donating a part of the toy’s profit, so I feel it could make a nice small gift for someone. I purchased this vibrator for my Papillon Massager review.
