Luxury Collection: Romance Kit Review

Luxury Collection: Romance Kit
The packaging

UPDATE JANUARY 2024: This date night kit is no longer in production. This sex toy review remains for anyone who is curious about it. While you’re here, why not check out some additional educational info – like online submissive tasks, beginner pegging positions, saran wrap bondage, and enema 101 info.

The Luxury Collection Romance Kit is a large kit of items that would work well for an entire night of romance. Some of the items are reusable, a couple will only last for a night, and the majority will last a couple of uses but not forever. The kit includes bubble bath, massage oil, edible body powder, an electric candle, a feather teaser, rose petals in a storage bag, playful and suggestive playing cards, a garter, and a tin of mints.

The kit comes in a gorgeous black box. The box itself has a ribbon tied around it, so it makes it look even more fancy. The box itself includes a textured design on the top as well as lots of trays on the inside of the box to store all of the items inside. The box opens up like a book to reveal some of the items in the kit as well as one of the sides that opens up to reveal more items. The items can be stored in this box after the first use if you’d like.

This kit is built around the idea of reconnecting, through romance, with your partner, so all of the items included in this kit are foreplay-centric in nature. There really isn’t much that is intended to be used directly for the intercourse act itself. This kit is meant to really help you make your foreplay even more sensual. To help you determine if this kit is for you, I’ll break all of the items up one-by-one.

One of the first items you’ll notice when you open up this box will be the feather tickler. This feather tickler is basically a large collection of purple feathers that are attached to a short and stout black handle. The handle makes the feathers very easy to control, and the tickler itself is only about four inches in total length. It’s not a very long feather, but since you and your partner will probably be very close to each other anyway, this isn’t really a problem. The feather does a really nice job of tickling, and it feels very soft and sensual against the skin. Just make sure to keep it away from some of the other items of the kit as you wouldn’t want the feathers to get matted.

The next item, sitting in a tray next to the feather, is an electric candle. This candle takes a large, lithium battery that is not common in most households. It does come with one, but my battery seems to have been dead upon arrival. The battery compartment is very difficult to get open the first time; it has one of those screwdriver-like turn compartments, so you might want to make sure to supply the screwdriver and replace the battery before becoming sexy. At the same time, the battery compartment is much easier to open once you get the plastic piece out of it, so that helps a ton. The candle itself is okay, but it isn’t as realistic as some of the other ones that I’ve seen. However, once you’ve got it lying out while you’re playing with one another, I doubt you’ll notice too much.

This set also comes with a one fluid ounce bottle of massage oil. This oil is interesting. I wouldn’t say that I’d call it “great”, but it’s not horrible either. The oil has the consistency of water, and with no pour spout, it will all come out – quickly – if you don’t watch it. However, you might want a lot of that oil as the massage oil itself doesn’t last too long. It goes evenly onto the skin, but it doesn’t last a very long time. It rubs into the skin pretty quickly for a foot massage, but it does not leave the skin feeling sticky or gross; it just rubs in pretty quickly. It does leave a bit of that “sexy” sheen too. It has an interesting scent; it smells a bit like Noxema. I personally love the smell of Noxema, so I’m in love with the scent, but the scent doesn’t really strike me as a “sensual” scent, so it depends on what you like.

The bubble bath is not one of the best items in the kit. It pours really easily into the tub, and it does take the entire bottle for one bath. Once poured, it does make bubbles, but the bubbles only last about five minutes, and they only stay near the faucet. It doesn’t seem to have much of a scent to it. It doesn’t leave any residue or anything on the skin, and it didn’t cause any irritation on our skin either. Also, while the bubble bath appears to be sparkly in the packaging, it doesn’t seem to leave any sparkles in the bath.

How the items sit in the box

The lickable body powder is a 2 ounce bottle of edible body powder. This powder also includes a little face puff, so it basically looks like a jar of make-up in a way. You have to remove the seal to use the powder itself, but the puff applies the powder really nicely and with no issue. The powder can be smoothed along the skin if you want. The taste isn’t bad at all, and it doesn’t have much of a scent either. These are both good things. Because it doesn’t have too much of a taste or scent, you can nibble on more of it before you’re tired of it. However, at the same time, it also, when applied saliva to, will turn dark red – a lot like blood. You can easily fix this by just licking up the remnants of what didn’t get licked up, but you might not want to use this when you don’t have time to shower before heading off to work. The powder can be a lot of fun.

The kit also includes some rose petals. The rose petals come in a see-through bag that includes a drawstring tie. If you want, after you use your rose petals, you can regather them and place them back into the bag. The rose petals themselves are pretty cute, and while they aren’t the most realistic thing out there, they are pretty close. All of the petals are the same color, and they’re made from a semi-heavy fabric that includes rose-like texture on them. The rose petals aren’t scratchy, so if you want to play on top of them, they won’t bother you. They are a dark red color, and they just look pretty cute and romantic when sitting out.

The Wild Cards are suggestive and playful cards that are meant to give you and your partner some extra inspiration and hints. The cards look like little red hearts, and they are legitimate playing cards (with the four suites and ace through king). For actually using them as playing cards, you might find that the heart-shape actually is more awkward than helpful, but for using the suggestions, it can be a lot of fun.

The suggestions are all one-sentence suggestions, and they are all pretty tame. They also really vary in what/when you are supposed to do. Some of them utilize items from the kits while others do not. For example, one says “Blindfold your lover then tease them with a feather tickler”. This particular kit doesn’t come with a blindfold although some of the company’s other kits do. Other suggestions include things like “Do something fun in front of a mirror”, “Take erotic photos of each other“, “Press your lover up against the wall and then kiss them all over”, or “Tell your lover about your most recent fantasy”. The suggestions aren’t all original, but they can be a bit fun and give you ideas for your BDSM scenes.

Showing how the cards look

The garter is really cute, but it’s definitely not going to fit everyone. Unstretched, it has a circumference of 10 inches. Stretched out, it will go up to 17 inches. This will probably fit most smaller women, but it won’t work for plus-sized bodies. The satin (purple portion) of the garter is soft against the skin, but the outer black lace can definitely get a little scratchy. This may not bother you, but depending upon how long you plan on wearing it, it may be very annoying to you. Testing it on my arm, the lace doesn’t seem to be too scratchy – even with movement – so you should be fine. The garter does look really cute, though, and it could add a different dimension to your sexual fun.

Fun fact of the day: I hate mints. This kit includes a set of mints, so I had the mint-loving submissive give them a try (nowhere near me, either). The submissive says they taste like Altoids. They make your breath smell good, smell good, taste good, but go away quickly in your mouth. They are addictive, though, and he ended up going for another one right after the first. He adds that they make your mouth feel really fresh. He says that he doesn’t notice a difference between these mints or other mints you can purchase, but as these are included in the kit, you really can’t “forget” them either, so that helps. On the mint container, it says “French Kiss Premium Mints”, so the packaging isn’t too discreet. He estimates that there are about 50 minutes in the packaging.

The kit, as a whole, provides a great kit of items to make a good night of foreplay. It doesn’t really have anything that focuses on the sex act itself, but if you want a nice way to reconnect, romantically, with your partner, this kit provides the materials. Sure, you could probably buy all of these items separately or do a romantic night on your own, but at the same time, most people are pretty guilty about letting romantic nights go out the window, so this kit gives you a ton of reminders and items that will help you and your partner have a romantic night. Here’s a quick overview of things:

  • Feather: Works wonderfully and gives a soft, sensual touch
  • Candle: Isn’t too believable and can be slightly annoying, but it can add something
  • Oil: Dries up pretty quickly but has a nice scent. Also very watery.
  • Body powder: Not much scent or taste. Presented nicely. Can leave red residue.
  • Playing cards: Include some cute, but basic, ideas. May not have proper items to fulfill. Varies largely in intensity and location of what they tell you to do.
  • Rose petals: Cute and detailed. Quite a few to cover an area and reusable.
  • Garter: Will fit smaller-sized women. Looks very sexy and is comfortable.
  • Bubble bath: Works okay for a night, but it’s not the best bubble bath. No scent, leaves bubbles, washes okay.
  • Mints: Delicious, Make your mouth feel clean

Overall, this kit includes a lot of items that you’d want to make a romantic night for the two (or more?) of you. Almost all of the items (except the cards) relate to foreplay instead of the sex act itself, so if you wanted to use this kit for a night of pampering instead of a night of sex, it would work great that way too. Either way, if you need to remind yourself (and your partner) about romance in your life, this kit provides the materials you’d need to make it a fun night.
