Better Than Chocolate Review

The Better Than Chocolate sitting on top of its box

UPDATE MAY 2020: The Better Than Chocolate is no longer in production. However, an upgraded version, the Better Than Chocolate 2, is still around. However, this review remains as a reference for anyone who’s interested.

The Better Than Chocolate is about 4 and a half inches long. (It does have a curve, so it won’t look quite as long). It’s 2 and a half inches in width. The curved shape allows the Better Than Chocolate to be held comfortable in your hand during use. The lower half of the vibrator twists off to allow you to insert the batteries. The controls are located in the middle of the toy with a touch feature. The touch feature is covered by a protective film. You can take off the film if you want, but I have left the film on my toy, and it’s worked great without taking it off. The Nami Tang logo is etched into the bottom of the toy which makes me think that germies could get stuck in the logo, so make sure to clean it thoroughly.

You can see its box, the instruction manual, the vibrator itself, and the velvet bag.

The Better Than Chocolate comes packaged in a beautiful white box that’s slid into cardboard that surrounds it. The packaging really is adorable yet simple. It’s white with a picture of the Better than Chocolate on the outside. You can slide the box out of the cardboard holder, and it will open up to the vibrator. The inside of the box is lined with velvet, so you could choose to keep your new vibrator in this box for as long as you want. If you choose not to, however, this sex toy also comes with a little velvet bag that you could store your new vibrator in. There’s a hole cut out in the middle for your Better Than Chocolate to sit comfortable in. Underneath the hole is where they stashed the extras. It includes a little card that personally welcomes you to your vibrator and asks you to directly contact the manufacturer if you happen to have any problems. It also includes a user manual. The manual is printed in nine different languages, so I’m sure you’ll find the language you need.

The battery compartment gave me the most trouble about this vibrator. In order to insert batteries, you have to twist off a portion of the bottom that is completely flush with the rest of the toy. (It’s flush in order for the Better Than Chocolate to be waterproof). This process was probably the biggest pain in the butt I’ve ever dealt with. However, it’s mostly because of my own stupidity. I warn you now – in order to make the cap turn off easily, you need to make sure the toy and your hands are both dry. Otherwise the TPR of the toy will slip right between your grasps. Once you get it open, it only takes two AAA batteries to work. (Not included) It’s easy to close back up as well.

In order to turn on the toy, you need to press down the power button on the end of the vibrator that twists off to insert the batteries. You’ll hear a click and the vibrator will turn on. From there, you use the touch pad to be able to control the vibrations. Scrolling your fingers towards the top will increase vibrations, towards the bottom will decrease. If you touch the top portion of the touch pad for two seconds, it will lock whatever setting it is. If you touch the bottom portion of the touch pad for two seconds, it will scroll through the different types of vibration. I loved the idea of the touch pad, but if you really want to seriously use it during your play time, you will want to take advantage of the locking feature. Without it, it’s ridiculously easy to switch the settings around just while you’re trying to use it.

The vibrations themselves are pretty basic. There are eight different “speeds” of the vibrations. The lowest setting is amazingly slow while the highest is pretty high. Personally, I wish the highest setting would have been more powerful, but that’s just me. You really do have the lowest of the low all the way up to the medium-high range of vibrations with the Better Than Chocolate. It also has different modes. The first mode is continuous vibration. The second mode is the “crescendo” mode (Yes, that’s the music nerd in me). It starts off lower and goes up to a higher, then repeats the pattern. The third mode is just short spurts of the vibration. It goes from off to on in a short spurt, then repeats the pattern.  When you mess with the touch slider for the intensity, it doesn’t change the intensity with these other modes. Instead, it appears to change the speed of it. It all stays the same intensity, but the pattern repeats more quickly when you turn up the touch slider.

The vibrations are slightly loud. It wouldn’t be able to be heard through a door unless someone is really trying to hear it. Once put underneath a blanket, it should block out most of the noise – especially on the lower settings.

Like the vibrator states, I did find the Better Than Chocolate to be completely waterproof. It gave me no problems after I’d submerged it in water or after I’d take it out. No water made it into the battery compartment, but make sure to close the compartment securely before attempting that experiment.

When it comes to the safety of this toy, go ahead and use it externally – it was made to fit the curve of a woman’s body. However, it was not made for insertion; either vaginally or anally. Honestly, it’s an awkward shape to do as such and would probably hurt, so I just don’t recommend it. The Better Than Chocolate is phlathates-free and is made out of TPR. Since it’s made of that material, you should be able to sanitize this toy if you want to share it with others. (It’s too awkward of a shape to fit in a condom.) To clean it, go ahead and just wash it with water and mild soap. Water-based and silicone-based lubricants should both work well with the Better Than Chocolate.

I must say that I’m pretty fond of the Better Than Chocolate vibrator. I found it to be a great warm-up sex toy. I, however, didn’t find it to fit my anatomy perfectly which really is to be expected when women’s bodies are so different. I think I would have enjoyed the Better Than Chocolate a lot more if the vibrator had curved with my anatomy. I’ve heard great reviews, so I’m sure it curves perfectly with other’s bodies – just not mine. It was really easy to hold, and I did like how soft the material is.

I do have to recommend this Better Than Chocolate for someone who is looking for non-pinpoint stimulation. The Better Than Chocolate shares the vibrations all over the body of the toy, and it works great for stimulating all of the different parts of the vagina – not just the clitoris. It’s a great warm-up toy because of the lower settings, and it’s very soft to touch and fun to use with the touch-pad.
