Discover Your Lover Adult Board Game Review

Box art. Not exact discreet, but it's a beautiful box.

To be honest, this is possibly the most awesome adult board game on the face of the planet. MyPleasure offered to send this out to me, and I was so excited. I hadn’t heard anything about it before, but it looked high quality.

Looks can be deceiving, but not in this case. “Discover Your Lover” has an amazing premise that was executed perfectly. The adult board game includes a high-quality game board, a dice that has doubles of the numbers 1, 2, and 3, two little pawns, two hourglasses, rules of the game, and all of the cards.

The premise of this game is really simple. You start in the middle of the star, and you have to roll the dice to make it all around the star and back to your starting spot. Along the way, you’ll have to answer sexual trivia questions, intimate questions about your partner, and perform sensual and sexual acts with your partner. For each one you do successfully, you get to move forward more spaces. You win if you get to the end before your partner, but really, it’s the journey that counts on this one.

Board design. You can see the moving spaces and the places for the cards.

One of the great things about this game is that you can modify it to meet your own needs. My boyfriend and I have been dating for over two years, so we’re comfortable with downright everything, really. For newer couples, though, this game works just as well. For example, in the rules, it suggests that you start with a sexy outfit on, and when you land on the “striptease” spots on the board, you remove an article of clothing. However, if you don’t want to, it’s just as easy to substitute an “intimate question” card without ever impacting the turnout of the game.

One of my favorite aspects of this game are the questions cards. They come in three categories: Easy, Intimate, and Difficult. Each option has 80 cards. The Easy and Difficult questions are both trivia cards that deal with sex. For example, “Who discovered the G-Spot?” (Easy), “How large is the percentage of wome who own a vibrator?” (Easy), “True or False: The average man can eject his sperm up to a distance of 12 inches when he reaches climax.” (Easy), “The word fuck is actually an acronym. What does it stand for?” (Difficult), “What flavor, according to sex shop owners, is the most popular for edible underwear?” (Difficult), “What percentage of American adults have ever experimented with S&M?” (Difficult). There are even harder Difficult cards, so it’s pretty obvious that you could play this board game and learn new things whether you’re a virgin or whether you collect sex toys for fun.

Inside of the box. Everything fits perfectly.

The “Intimate” cards are just as fun. They are double-sided – one question on it is if you’re asking a male, one is if you’re asking a female. I was slightly saddened by the fact that they repeat some of the questions for the opposite sex on some cards, but all in all, I’d say there are about 70 unique questions in the cards. They are some pretty good ones as well. What makes these fun is that you ask the question of your partner, and they are supposed to guess what *you* would say. Think the Newlywed game. If they get it right, they get to move ahead a space. The questions were all great questions and a lot of them were things the boyfriend and I hadn’t discussed before. Questions include: “Which word or words really turn me on?”, “What color lingerie do I prefer you to wear?”, “Do I ever fantasize about you urinating on me?”, and “What is my favorite way to reach an orgasm?”.

Aside from those three types of cards, there are “tasks” cards as well. There are 100 affectionate cards (50 for each gender), 80 intimate cards (40 for each gender), and 60 passionate cards (30 for each gender). These cards each have a different colored dot on them, so this game is set up that you can remove some of the cards if you wish. If you and your partner aren’t feeling up to hardcore sex or maybe just don’t know each other well enough, just take out the “passionate” cards and continue playing. The cards are also seperated by gender, so you won’t have to worry about cards that tell you to do things that are physically impossible with your partner.

The cards go up in the “steamy” factor as they go. Affectionate cards are pretty tame, intimate cards are warmer, and passionate cards usually include some sort of sex. All of the cards include a “timer” indicator at the top which is supposed to tell you how long you have to do the activity. With the two hourglasses included, it’s really easy to time yourself as well.

Different types of cards. Trivia question on far left, intimate question in the middle, and task card on the right.

Examples of the “affectionate” cards include “Allow your partner to blindfold you and open your mouth. Your partner will allow you to taste three different things (that you can eat or drink) or to feel three different objects with your tongue. Try to get into the mood and enjoy the experience.”, “Choose one of the following words or short sentences and use it as part of an erotic story: In the bathroom, exciting out in the open, a visit to the sauna, driving lesson.”, “Ask your partner what he would like to drink and take a mouthful of the drink yourself. Next, push your lips against his and give him the drink that he asked for. The task has been successfully completed if you can do this without making a mess.” All of the affectionate cards are fun and sensual at the same time. Some require outside objects like massage oil, ice cubes, or blinfolds, but if you don’t have those items, you could always just draw a new card.

Examples of the “intimate” cards include: “Tell your partner the quickest way to get you erect and ask her to actually do it. Be frank and explain clearly what turns you on and how. As soon as you are hard, the task is complete.”, “Arouse your partner without touching her. You may do or say anything for this. If she clearly indicates that you have aroused her, then the task has been completely successfully.”, “Show your partner how you masturbate. Try to turn her on, so make a real show of it. If you are not erect when you start, you can ask her to help you.” All of these cards usually require genitals in some shape or form.

Examples of the “passionate” cards include:”Get into the position shown below. The time will only start once you are in this position, with your partner’s legs pressed against you as tightly as possible. You will not be too deeply inside her in this position, but it is ideal for an intimate conversation.”, “Let your partner play the role of the dominatrix. You will therefore be her servant and she can do whatever she wants with you, while taking into consideration your wishes and boundaries. (Insert safety information as well.)”, “Ask your partner to tie your hands behind your back using a rope, a shoestring, or a belt. Be careful; it is not about not being able to get loose, but rather about the feeling it induces in you both. Next, lick/kiss her in the area where she tells you.” Most of the passionate cards require penetration, and many even include positions to get into. For most of them, orgasm isn’t the end result though. They just want you to resist it until the timer is up.

This game is just absolutely amazing to play. It only took us about three hours, average, when we played. However, we ended up going around twice both times because it was just that fun. If you are feeling lazy, you can exclude the task cards, but they really do make the game more fun. If you just want to get down to some fun, you can exclude the trivia and intimate cards. It’s the fact that this game is so versatile that makes it my favorite adult board game – ever. I’m so blown away by this game, and I will happily recommend it to anyone that wants a new board game.

It’s great for couples who have been together for years or those that just want to learn more about each other. It’s great for bonding and also for some hot sex. It even gets stored well. It has a plastic tray that stores all the pieces perfectly for your next use. The box is sturdy as well.

If you don’t own this board game, you should. It’s an amazing game. It’d especially be a great choice to play on Valentine’s night to get cozy and sexual with your partner. This great toy store sells the game, and you can buy Discover Your Lover here.  While you’re there, check out their other amazing games for lovers.
