UPDATE JANUARY 2023: Lora DiCarlo has now disappeared from the world without much of a trace – leaving my praise beneath this paragraph a bit disappointing. Ugh. I still love the Baci with a fiercity reserved for only a few of my toys, but I really don’t touch the Filare much anymore. As this review notes, the sensations are very light, and I generally don’t look for something that gentle from my sex toys. It’s irrelevant as the Lora DiCarlo Filare can no longer be purchased. Ahh, Lora DiCarlo. A brand new sex toy manufacturer to most retailers (Lora DiCarlo previously only sold directly to customers), you’ll see a lot more Lora DiCarlo products popping up on retail sites. As a whole, I’m really fond of Lora DiCarlo. Instead of taking the “easy way out” and just making something that vibrates, the entire company has been focused on “rethinking” toys for those with vaginas. Assuming it can be “done better”, the founder, Lora DiCarlo, applied science (and a buttload of research) to come up with their designs. And honestly, the Lora DiCarlo toys ARE different than pretty much anything on the market.
The Lora DiCarlo Ose 2 is entirely adjustable in a way that literally no other rabbit vibrator is (though some are getting closer!). Its clitoral stimulator includes air suction (god yes) and thrumming/thumping (god, even better). The insertable g-spot version is slim, entirely adjustable, and when in place, there’s a small protruding “finger point” (microrobotics) that literally automates all of the g-spot stroking for you. Don’t want the entire dual stimulation experience? The Lora DiCarlo Baci is the clitoral-portion of the Ose 2, and the Lora DiCarlo Onda is the g-spot version of the Ose 2.
(Honestly, the Baci is one of the most pleasurable things to EVER touch my vagina [Lora Di Carlo Baci review here], and that’s saying something with over 1,300 sex toy reviews on Kinky World. That award was previously awarded to the Womanizer toys, but the Lora DiCarlo Baci has unseated it. But that’s a post for another day.)
The latest two additions to the Lora DiCarlo line-up are the Filare and the Carezza. These two clitoral stimulators are NOT vibrators – instead, they focus on automating the sensation of physical touch (via self or partner) like a tongue or fingertip. Both palm-sized clitoral stimulators are gentler in sensation than the Baci – but designed to replicate human-capable sensation unlike most vibrators (humans don’t vibrate) and air suction toys (orally, humans can provide suction, but not constantly).
The Carezza includes a single point of “drumming” stimulation (in and out movements) while the Filare includes two protruding points that make “circles” (which can be placed surrounding the clitoris or moved to hit the clitoris over and over).
One of the things I like about Filare is how different the sensations really feel. It’s a very different experience from vibrations. Instead of feeling like I’m “rushing” towards orgasm, the Filare feels very beat-around-the-bush natural – like when I’m with a partner. In one second, I’m feeling “Mmm, this is pleasurable, but I don’t think I can orgasm from it…”, and in the next second with a little millimeter movement, I’m feeling the “Ooooh. This could get me there!” sensation. It really does mimic the realistic sensation of having a partner touch me with their fingers or tongue. It isn’t a “If I leave this vibrator in this exact spot for 2 minutes, it will build me to an orgasm”. Every time I pull out the Filare, it feels like a brand-new exploration where I need to figure out the best spots for it and wait for the vibrator to give me those indicators that it’ll be the spot that makes me orgasm – similar to when I have a partner touching between my legs.
For that reason, I don’t necessarily recommend the Filare if reaching orgasm is difficult for you, if you regularly need those super-quick orgasms, or if you really rely on vibrators to get you the orgasms you want when your body is otherwise not cooperating. It usually takes me longer-than-usual to orgasm from the Lora DiCarlo Filare than I would from any other vibrator – or even my own fingers. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing; it really does feel a lot more “leisurely pleasurable” than my usual “Quick to orgasm” methods. But it won’t be for everyone – especially people who purchase their sex toys in order to speed up sex or make things more reliably quick.
One of the biggest things I dislike is just how “minimally” the pleasure points stick out from the Filare. In order to get the pleasure from the Filare, you really have to make sure that those points are in contact with the clit. Since the protrusion is relatively small, this means if you’re plushier or have plushier vulva, you “really” gotta nestle it up in there. It also means cleaning the majority of the Filare if you position it properly.
Other points to note about the Filare:
- The Filare doesn’t use vibrations. This essentially means that if you’re someone who is sensitive to the “numbing” aspect of vibrations after long periods of time (like I tend to be, over 20 minutes), the Filare won’t cause that. This means, if you were using the Filare for lots of edging fun – or just wanted to really take your time, the Filare doesn’t reduce how much sensation you’re getting if you use it for long periods of time. (But that’s where that annoying battery life problem steps in.)
- Its controls are really, really easy to use. They seem a bit convoluted at first, but they’re really straight-forward.
- Its “finger-like simulation” also means that, like sex with your fingers, it may not be a “super-fast” or “force you into orgasm” stimulation. That’s part of what makes it great, but it’s also something you need to know if you regularly turn to your sex toys for “force my body that’s not cooperating into orgasm” uses.
- The battery-capacity light is actually super useful. Every time you turn it on, you get a “window” into how much power is left on the Filare. At an hour’s battery life, you get a bit of a play session – though I wish it lasted longer for a toy that lends itself so well to teasing and slow stimulation enjoyment.
- Charging is really easy. The charging cord snaps on with ease, and it stays on pretty well. No issues there.
Essentially, if you want a clitoral toy that’s absolutely perfect for casual, finger-like stimulation that can edge, tease, and let you luxuriate in pleasure without making you temporarily numb (like vibrators can), the Lora DiCarlo Filare is a good option. It won’t provide easy-orgasm access if that’s what you use your toys for, but if you have dexterity issues that make extended finger pleasure difficult or if you want a sex toy that allows for long pleasure sessions while you watch your favorite movies or read your favorite books, the Lora DiCarlo Filare can be a really good fit.
