Bree Olson’s Kitten with a Whip Review

Bree's Olson Kitten with a Whip
The flogger and blindfold from this set

UPDATE APRIL 2023: This bondage gear set is no longer in production. This sex toy review remains for anyone who is curious about it. While you’re here, why not check out some additional educational info – like online submissive tasks, beginner pegging positions, saran wrap bondage, and enema 101 info.

Bree Olson’s Kitten with a Whip set is a two-piece set that comes with a blindfold and a flogger.  I chose this set because the designs on both of the pieces are actually really cute.  I will go over both individually and then go over how they work together.

The BDSM flogger that is included with this kit is workable for a first flogger. The price point keeps it from being an impressive flogger, but it does function decently as a flogger. When you pick up the flogger, it’s obvious that the handle is just a piece of wood covered by some soft material, so be a little careful about how you wield it. In the middle, they exposed a piece of the wood and did a criss-cross corset-like pattern with a piece of nylon. The corset bow on this is actually not tied or anything, so during use, the bow may start to come undone. To fix this, put a small dab of super glue in the middle of the bow.

On each side of the piece of fabric (top and bottom), there’s a piece of black lace that has been sewn onto the original piece of fabric. It doesn’t look very sturdy, but it hasn’t fallen off. Each side of the fabric also has a rivet pushed through the fabric into the wood to keep it stable, but they didn’t place the rivets at an equal place in the wood, so the entire thing does shift slightly to the left which isn’t too big of a deal. At the top of the handle, the company used a rivet to attach a thin of leather to as a hanging strap for the flogger.

The handle and tails of the flogger

The tails of the flogger are made from a very thin leather that doesn’t appear to have been softened at all. They are in very not-wide straps, so they will tend to hurt a little more. I’d say there are probably about forty different strands of leather for the tail that is included here. The strands are sixteen inches long while I’d say that the handle adds another 8, so you are looking at about a 24-inch long flogger.

So how does the flogger feel to handle? It’s very lightweight. It was actually a little confusing to me at first because of how light it was. Since all that is included with this flogger is some fabric, a dowel of wood, and some lightweight leather, it ends up being really light and easy to control – which is definitely nice. Because of the shorter tails, it’s possible to be able to use this in a sexual setting and not just use it as part of a scene.

Advanced users and lovers of floggers may actually desire more from this flogger than what it gives. It’s not weighted nor does it seem all that high-quality, but it’s definitely designed as an introduction to impact play instead of a high-end addition to an impact play collection.

So how does it feel? If you wanted to, putting more force into a strike with this would cause some pain (and if done ridiculously hard, possibly welts), but for the most part, this is really just going to be a flogger that will work pretty well for light use.

The blindfold is a pretty average blindfold. It has two elastic pieces that go around your head to keep the blindfold fastened to your eyes. The back of the blindfold is covered with a very, very soft purple satin which feels luxurious. The front of the blindfold includes the same material as the flogger with the same corset pattern. The outer edges of the blindfold include some lace that has been sewn onto the blindfold. All-in-all, not badly made compared to some of the other blindfold options out there.

The blindfold from this set

Out of this set, the blindfold is really the piece that I have a problem with though despite being well-made. The problem is that, no matter who we’ve managed to put this blindfold on, every person complains it is ridiculously too tight. Like, it causes headaches and pain within a minute or so. When I wear the blindfold, it pushes the blindfold straight onto my eyes themselves and just feel ridiculously uncomfortable. We’ve tried some short people, tall people, overweight, underweight – nothing. It just seems to be too freakin’ tight. Which is a shame because it is a cute blindfold. I’ve had a design college major tell me that it would be possible to lengthen the elastic though if you did like it enough.

The other complaint about the blindfold is that it doesn’t really properly have a cut out for where the nose should go. It has a small one, but for most people’s noses, it’s not enough to properly give it a good fit.

Despite the bad points, though, this does block out the light because it’s so tight. If they had only made it a bit looser, it probably would have been perfect. This is something that you will need to take your contacts out before wearing though since it sincerely is that tight on your face that it will cause your contacts to get screwed up.

As a set, they look cute together – they really do. This is really all you would need for a fun little night of bondage play, and for the price, you could continue to enjoy bondage for less than what a meal would cost. However, this is mostly for those who are new to all types of bondage and don’t own any toys. Although they are both still bondage toys, the cute designs on them really make them look completely less threatening. That, along with the lacking in some of the higher-quality techniques of floggers (like weight handled, high-quality material, or braiding) makes this much more suited to a beginner than someone who wants to just expand their flogger collection.

Cleaning is really easy too. Since the flogger is made from leather, a warm washcloth to wipe down the strands should work just fine. Avoid getting the flogger in contact with lubricant or bodily fluids since leather doesn’t full sterilize. The blindfold should never need cleaning, honestly, but if it’s gotten bad, I’d imagine putting it in the lingerie bag in the wash and letting it sit out to dry would keep it okay. For storage, the blindfold can be stored anywhere, but I’d attempt to keep the flogger in a place where the tails can lay out flat and not have to curve. The curve in the tails can cause the leather material to memorize the curve and never be as straight as they should. We keep ours hanging on a nail.

As a set, we personally are fond of the design but not the execution. This is probably because we have experience with BDSM products and expected these to come to a higher standard. However, for a beginner who wants something non-threatening, cheap, and easy to use, this is a cute set that really fits all of those criteria. To purchase these bdsm toys, go to this sex toy store and pick up Bree Olson’s Kitten with a Whip set.
