UPDATE MAY 2020: The Black Light Body Paint Kit is no longer in production – though I’m surprised by how popular black light body paint is now that we’re 10 years later. There are lots of options to choose from now. This review remains as a reference for this particular kit.
The Black Lite Body Paint Kit is a small kit of body paint accessories made by Pipedream Products. It includes four different body paints, some incense sticks, a 75-watt blacklight, and free samples of warming massage oil. The kit is designed to be useful under a black light with the body paint glowing under the black light. The other accessories are just designed to enhance that experience.
It comes in a tall box that’s large enough to fit the incense inside of it as well. The box is mostly black-light colors, shows a picture of the kit on the outside, and shows a picture of a girl with all sorts of designs drawn onto her body. It’s a little too obvious that the designs on her body are just photoshopped on. The incense comes in a special bag to separate it from the rest while the body paint just comes in little containers and the massage oil comes in little lubricant pillows. The light bulb is packaged at the very bottom of the box in its own special box to avoid any harm coming to it. If you empty the box then shake lightly enough, the lightbulb will eventually slide out.
So how does each piece work? Well, the lightbulb works exactly as a lightbulb should. It’s a standard lightbulb that will fit in any sort of standard place for lightbulbs such as lamps or ceiling fans. It’s a 75 watt light bulb, but since it’s black light, you will barely notice how bright it is. It seems to work as an average black light since other black light objects shine like they are supposed to under it. It’s nothing strong, but they do shine.
The incense sticks smell amazing. I was actually quite fond of them. However, since the kit doesn’t include an incense holder, if you don’t have a holder, I’m not exactly sure how you’d go about burning them. I know most mass merchandisers sell incense holders for a couple of dollars, so you could pick up one of those if you intended to enjoy your incense sticks. The sticks burn quite nicely and give off a pleasing scent that definitely smells quite sensual. I had to do this test outside since our apartment building doesn’t allow incense inside, so I can’t comment on if the scent stays around, but it did smell pretty nice. I’d say it would definitely enhance the mood, and it burns about as quickly as a regular stick of incense does. It seems to be just an average incense with a nice scent. Each scent is different, but for the ones I tried, they all seemed really pleasant.
The massage oil pillows are kinda neat. There are five included in the kit. Each one is in a different color (pink, light green, blue, orange, and yellow). Each of these is really tiny and only is enough for one play session – and you may find that you run short before you feel like you are really done. However, in the past, the pillows I’ve used usually have too much and I end up throwing some out, so I suppose this is a better alternative.
The pillows come in multiple flavors – strawberry, green apple, peaches n cream, pina colada, and cool-blue raspberry. No instructions or anything are included with the massage oil, or anything else, so we have no idea where this is supposed to be applied or not. For safety’s sake, I’d keep this away from your genitals or anywhere sensitive. We used it on jor’s back, and honestly, it was okay. I wouldn’t call it amazing. The scent was pretty nice at least, but it didn’t feel all that smooth. It felt more sticky than smooth. When it comes to feeling like oil, they just didn’t. It was almost more like a type of syrup than oil itself although it did smell quite nicely. However, since we used these directly after we had washed off the body paint, it’s possible the two sensations got mixed up. But when we were done, it just felt completely sticky – no fun.
Now for the big part – the body paint. The body paint comes in little plastic containers that rival the containers, in size, of those that you’d give to a little girl full of finger-applied lip gloss. They’re about that big. They come in blue, yellow, green, and orange. Each one is then further sealed by a foil that you have to take off before you can use the color. We found the foil to be a pain in the butt to come off, so I recommend you keep some scissors on hand or have opened them ahead of time.
Each container really has enough paint for an entire session. We had multiple people playing with these paints with one jar per couple. We didn’t even use the full jars, but our attention for these things didn’t last very long. The paint doesn’t go on unless you kinda “glop” it on. If you actually try to paint it on, it will become invisible and mix into the skin. It was slightly annoying since children’s finger paint would actually go on and stay on. This stuff you honestly can’t “paint” with because if you attempt, it just goes away. It feels about like paint would feel – greasy and kinda awkward. It ended up getting stuck under my fingernails, but it’s nothing that a shower won’t fix. We didn’t get it near any sort of furniture or carpet, but it did seem to stain the papertowels that we used to dry our hands off of, but what *doesn’t* stain a paper towel?
The biggest downside of the paint was that it honestly doesn’t glow. After all the fun playing, the body paint doesn’t actually glow in the dark. Not even barely. Unless you hold the lightbulb up directly against the skin, it won’t even attempt to glow. If you get the lightbulb close enough, it will glow but it’s so small and sad that it’s not even really glowing. Even an original store-bought black light doesn’t make it glow, so I honestly can say that it’s the paint’s fault.
After you’ve had fun just doodling on your partner, it does wash off really easily with some warm water and a washcloth – or just in the shower. We used a black washcloth so it couldn’t stain the material. It washes off pretty easily without any awkward residue.
So in the end? I’m honestly not too impressed, but for the price, it’s worth the night of having some fun – as long as you understand it won’t be exactly what it promises. The paint won’t really function as paint and it doesn’t glow, but the black light bulb is a real black light and the incense actually smells pretty amazing as well.
