The Luna Mini Pleasure Bead System, designed by LELO, is a vaginal exercise ball system. Designed to be a smaller version of the popular Luna Pleasure Beads also made by LELO, the Luna Mini beads are about 2/3 of the size of the original kegel beads. Featuring two sets of differently-weighted balls as well as the silicone holder that allows you to switch out the balls for your preferences, the balls are made of plastic while the holder is made of silicone. The pleasure beads also include retrieval balls for easy retrieval. The pink balls, the lighter of the set, are 28 grams of weight each while the blue balls are 37 grams each.
Like typical LELO packaging, the packaging for the Mini Luna Beads is very well-done. It comes in a white, outer box that clearly displays pictures and features of the vaginal beads. On the inner box, it is a plain white, cardboard box that says “LELO” on the top, and it has a foam-like tray inside where the vaginal balls rest. Inside the box, this set comes with 4 Luna Beads, the silicone holder, the 1 year warranty information, a user manual, a stroage pouch, and a sample of the LELO water-based lubricant.
Vaginal exercisers such as these are designed to help strengthen the pelvic floor muscles. Strenghtening these muscles can lead to better bladder control, stronger contractions during intercourse, and (best of all!), more intense orgasms! Along with that, some people (like in the 50 Shades of Grey books) find that wearing vaginal balls brings blood flow to the genital area and does cause arousal as well. Bonus points!
What makes the Luna Pleasure Beads system stand out is its ability to switch out the weights. There’s the silicone holder, and this holder allows you to switch in and out the blue and pink weighted balls in order to make the perfect weight for your body. The pink balls are lighter than the blue ones, and you can easily use one pink and one blue for the best weight for your body. Two of the four balls include a retrieval cord on the end that slides into the silicone sleeve, The balls are actually pretty simple to get in and out of the silicone holder; I’m surprised. However, the balls don’t really slide out on their own; you do have to wiggle the silicone and slide them out gently, so you don’t have to worry about the pleasure beads just sliding out when you don’t want them to.
In comparison to the regular Luna Beads, these Luna Mini Pleasure Beads are pretty similar. The design is really the same, but the only difference is that the Luna Mini Beads happen to be smaller in size than the regular ones. I’d say they’re about 2/3 in size than the full-size Luna Beads. For those who thought that the regular Luna Beads were too large in size, these may work perfectly for you. The actual design (how the beads slip in and out as well as the shape of the cord and the beads) are the exact same, though.
Something that is VERY different, though, is the sound of the Mini Luna Beads versus the full-size Luna Beads. The full-size Luna Beads, inside their plastic ball shell, seem to include some sort of rubber-like ball, so the sound, while audible while held in your hand and shaken, is hard to hear once in your body. The mini Luna Beads use some sort of plastic/metal balls inside the plastic shell, so they are MUCH louder! When held in your hand, it’s obvious, and when in your body, they can be heard as well. I wouldn’t say that they’re extremely EASY to hear, but if it’s a dead silent room and you’re moving a lot (jumping, shaking, hula-hooping, etc.), the balls will make a noticable sound.
I do have to wonder about the retrieval cord on the Mini Luna Beads. LELO already made a silicone holder sleeve; why not build the retrieval cords straight into the sleeve and make them silicone? Why are the retrieval cords some string attached to the balls themselves? I can’t tell you what material the retrieval cords are, but they will hold strong. However, with many silicone kegel balls using silicone retrieval cords (which can be sterilized and are very flexible), I do wonder why LELO chose to use the string type again. For those that mind or have specific concerns about bacteria, this may be something to keep in mind.
For wearing, it’s pretty enjoyable. I never had a problem with the larger-sized Luna Beads, so the smaller ones didn’t seem like too big of a difference to me. However, the beads are definitely enjoyable to use, and I haven’t had too much issue with them slipping out or being painful. As long as you have the beads firmly in the silicone sleeve, they don’t seem to slide out or cause discomfort, and good amount of lubricant will keep things feeling pleasurable for quite a while.
To clean these vaginal beads, you can use warm water and antibacterial soap. If you want to sterilize them, the silicone holder can be sterilized by being boiled in water. The plastic may be able to be sterilized with boiling as well, but I haven’t tried it. The silicone holder doesn’t seem to pick up hair or lint, so it seems okay with wherever you choose to store it. They can be stored in the black satin bag if you’d like. Along with that, the only type of lubricant you should use should be water-based lubricant as silicone-based lubricant could make your toy tacky if you use it.
Overall, the Luna Mini Pleasure Bead System provides something that other kegel balls don’t – a small size. The small size may work well if you find that usual kegel balls are too heavy or too large; these allow you to adjust the weight as well as how the weight sits. I wish LELO had included a single silicone holder as you could then just use a single ball versus the two ball design – especially as single silicone holders have become standard in most kegel ball kits. However, as long as you’re okay with the slight rattling it makes along with the regular-string retrieval cord, the Luna Mini Pleasure Bead system could work well for you.
