The Teacher’s Pet Apple Paddle is a fun, whimsical paddle. The paddle is manufactured by Ruff Doggie Styles. The paddle is basically in an amazingly unique shape with a little worm slithering out of an apple. The paddle is made all from leather with some unique embroidery along the edges and some of the finer points. There’s also a small hole at the top of the paddle near the top of the apple where a string was run through to allow the paddle to hang up.
There isn’t any specific packaging that goes with this adorable little paddle. There’s a small tag that explains the paddle that hangs off of the hanging string, but aside from that, it doesn’t come in anything specific – which is environmentally great. I love Ruff Doggie Style’s motto though: “Who says a little pain can’t be pretty?” I think more companies should take that logo.
I wanted to check out this paddle since I enjoy moving away from the all-black BDSM gear. This has a neat, whimsical look about it that makes it a lot more fun than most to play with. In fact, when I’ve shown it to a couple friends, they instantly wanted to play with it just because it was such a neat looking paddle. If taken to a play party, I’m sure I’d get quite a few compliments on the paddle itself just because it’s not the “typical” play gear. I love owning unique things.
The paddle seems to have been made with quality in mind. The paddle is made from two layers of leather stitched onto each other. The stitching is very neat, and there aren’t any threads escaping. The colors on the top of the paddle do seem to be just a very thin layer of leather sewn onto the top. All of the black detailing is done by embroidery.
The handle is a bit odd compared to most paddles. Since the little worm is actually squirming, this makes the paddle a bit awkward to hold in your hand. Honestly, the only way I’ve found to comfortably grasp this paddle is to wrap my fingers around the bottom-most “curve” with my fist covering up the little worm’s face. To hold any higher feels really uncomfortable. Unfortunately, it feels really uncomfortable to hold it that far down on the handle too. So no matter what, it does end up feeling a bit uncomfortable to grip.
The paddle is a bit heavy to wield as well – at first, it’s really light, but after awhile of paddling, it will end up feeling a lot heavier in your hands. The paddle isn’t very evenly weighted, so the paddling end is going to be a lot heavier than the handle end.
So what about how it feels for your submissive? Well, for one, the paddle itself is surprisingly unpadded. I was expecting a bit of padding to go with the paddle since it just seemed like a whimsical paddle that would have padding. It doesn’t. This means that every strike you make on a body is going to end up being quite a bit more stingy. The submissive says that he can’t actually feel every specific piece of the paddle, but he says that he can feel the general stinginess of the paddle itself.
When struck extremely lightly with the paddle, it’s pretty hard to feel any sort of sting from the paddle. However, if struck with any sort of force, it leaves quite a bit of sting in its place. This paddle could easily cause reddened skin with any sort of lengthy use. Since there isn’t any sort of padding, you do have to be careful with how roughly you hit with the paddle – because it’s not horribly heavy, you may end up hitting harder than you think you are. However, the paddle does basically end up doing exactly as it’s supposed to – it gives a nice, reddened feeling to the skin and can easily work for beginners or advanced players. No matter how hard we hit, though, we never could get the little worm in the apple to show up in the skin. (Or the apple itself either.)
Something that confuses me a bit about this paddle is the hanging strap. Instead of being on the handle where it really should be, it’s actually in the middle of the spanking part. While this might not cause a problem with lighter taps, I’m afraid that it will cause some unneeded pain if you want to use a heavier swing. It hasn’t caused extra pain for us, and I understand they wanted the paddle to store upright, but I still wish they wouldn’t have included the little hanging string on the top of the paddle.
For cleaning, it’s pretty easy. Since this is made from leather, you just have to use a damp washcloth and wipe it does. No soap should probably be used on this – I don’t think leather enjoys regular soaps. Try to avoid getting bodily fluids on the material since I don’t think it sterilizes. For storage, it seems to store best when hung from the little hanging strap at the top.
The Teacher’s Pet Apple Paddle ends up being a nice, high-quality paddle that looks unique and will catch other’s attention when you go out to play in public. If you enjoy roleplaying any sort of “teacher/student” roleplay scene, the paddle fits in amazingly. If you are a beginner or experienced, this paddle works great for paddling a bottom. I do recommend you keep your paddling to the butt because of how firm and lacking in flexibility this paddle is.
