The “Secrets of Sexual Body Language” is an Amorata Press book that was written by Martin Lloyd-Elliott. The book is softcover book with full-color pages on the inside. There are nine chapters in the 160 pages of this book. The book takes about an hour to read cover-to-cover. The book is relatively large in height at about eight inches by five inches in width. The book is sturdily put together, and since it doesn’t show any sort of sexual activity, it is an okay book to read in public.

As you could guess, this book is all about sexual body language. Just like there are books that try to teach you when someone is lying, cheating, or doing other things like that, this book is entirely focused on how to teach you the body language of someone who is interested (or not interested) in you sexually. By using pictures and words, the author tries to explain to you the different ways that you can know if she’s/he’s into you or not.

The book does a great job of using pictures to illustrate all of the examples that the author gives. There are a lot of different pictures in this book that include captions that definitively show the ideas that the author is talking about. For example, in one section about the eyes, there are a bunch of pictures of faces that show you some of the differences that eyebrow movement can make in determining someone’s mood. The books are probably one of my favorite parts of the book, and they made turning each page even more fun since there was step-by-step learning in the pictures to be done.

At times, the text wasn’t the most helpful. Sometimes, the book would explain why people smile or why people do this-or-that, but the author wouldn’t directly relate it back to how, exactly, you go about finding this in other people and how, exactly, you would be able to make someone more receptive to your advances. There’s a lot of great information in here, but I don’t know if everyone will step away going “I can now pick up anyone!” It’s more along the lines of great, amusing information that’s going to teach you enough to pick up on subtle hints in body language to let you know if your flirting method is being too strong or too soft and if the other person is interested in you or not.

That isn’t to say that this book is sexual only. It’s not. I can easily see this being helpful in a work environment to a certain extent. No, people at work (probably) won’t be actively flirting with you, but a lot of the stuff in here basically lets you know if someone is comfortable around you (and what you’re doing) or not. If applied to a work environment, you could learn if people around you want to be near you, or, at a presentation, you would know if the people you’re presenting to are buying what you’re attempting to sell.

I figure you want some examples, right? Yeah, I would too. Well, the cover along gives some of the main examples of the book. For one, did you know that people tend to mirror one another’s actions when they are attracted to one another? If someone likes you and you grab your drink, their body will automatically grab their own drink without thinking twice about it. For another, showing your wrist or neck is a sign of vunerability, and most people don’t do it unless they’re comfortable around the other person. For another, people’s eyes tend to dialate when they are looking at a person they like. People also, subtly, tend to “invade” others spaces by a foot or a hand when they are interested in the other person. Really, this book is a nice gold mine of information for people who want to learn to read people better.

At the same time, it’s a bit hard to apply. The most, while it repeats a couple different lessons, doesn’t repeat all of the lessons too often, so some of the lessons tend to be read then fly out of your mind. If you’re really interested in learning how to apply all of it, I highly recommend re-reading the book (or at least the picture captions) to learn what, exactly, you should be looking for when out in the “real world” and wanting to interact with other people and learn if they are interested. This book doesn’t just apply to flirting; the practices definitely are involved with flirting, but a lot of the items in this book will just apply to your day-to-day life as well.

This book is split into different chapters. The first chapter is “Personal Space” which talks about how people guard their personal space and how to know if someone likes you when they invade your own. The next is “Tell-Tale Signs” which are basically signs that someone is flirting or relaxed with you. The next “First Impressions”, talks about how to present yourself in a good manner and make the best first impression. After that, there are chapters called “The Eyes”, “The Mouth” and “Body Talk” which basically explain different portions of each one of those chapters that can be read to know if someone is enjoying your company. The second-to-last chapter is “Using All the Senses” which focuses on smell and taste and “The Whole Picture” focuses on how to put all of this information together into usable information.

I like the “Secrets of Sexual Body Language”. it’s not the most specific in places, but overall, the book provides a whole lot of knowledge that most people wouldn’t know without reading the book (or being a psychologist or a “playa”). It will help you, both in sexual and non-sexual situations, determine if someone is interested in what you’re doing. I’ve already re-read this book twice to make sure that I absorbed the information, and it’s a fun book to read. Thanks to Amorata Press for sending over this sexploration book for my “Secrets of Sexual Body Language” review.
