Pjur Aqua Water-Based Lubricant Review

Pjur Aqua Water-Based Lubricant Review

A high-quality water-based lubricant, Pjur Aqua is the water-based offering from the high-quality silicone lubricant manufacturer, Pjur. Available from TooTimid in either a 3.4 ounce or 8.5 ounce bottle, Pjur Aqua is non-staining and easy to clean, body-safe, and safe for use with all types of sex toys. The lubricant itself is made in Germany.

The 8.5 ounce bottle is a surprisingly large bottle. The lid is a unscrew-top lid, and there’s nothing stopping the lube from coming out once the lid is unscrewed and off the bottle. (But just put it back on, and you’ll be safe). The Pjur Aqua lube bottle is made of a pretty firm plastic, and it’s a relatively slippery bottle if you accidentally get lube on it. We wash it regularly to ensure it doesn’t get too annoying to deal with. It’s also worth noting that this is a decent amount of lube. It’ll likely last you months – it has for us, and we use it multiple times a week.

After a hard drop on the ground, our cap split in half and became unusable. The lubricant hasn’t dried out without a cap. Until the bottle had broken, we had traveled with this lube multiple times, and we’d never had a problem with lubricant leaking out of the bottle. It got to the point where I trusted the bottle enough that I didn’t even pack it in a baggie before throwing it in my luggage. It was a very sturdy, very sealed bottle up until we broke the cap.

When it comes to application, the Pjur Aqua, while easy to apply, is also very water-y. The lube will quickly run off the surface of your toy (or between your fingers) if you’re not careful. If you want to avoid lube on the bed (and wasting some of your lube), you’ll want to be careful and have a game plan when you apply. I personally have found that, with water-y lubes like this, applying lube at the top of the dildo/toy while it’s upright means the lube will only run down towards the base – which is what you wanted anyway. When applying straight to hands, try to apply near the palm instead of the fingertips.

The bottle itself makes the application pretty easy. With the viscosity of this lube, the lube basically just “runs” out of the bottle if the bottle is upside down. This means there’s very little squeezing or forcing required to get the lube out of the bottle. You’ll likely be able to get most of the lube out of the bottle without too much effort.

The lube doesn’t feel similar to vaginal lubrication (for those who prefer it), but it’s definitely scentless and tasteless. It leaves no lasting scent on the body (or during use), and it doesn’t have much of a taste to it either (unless you lick it straight. Then it’s slightly medical-tasting, but not much.)

The longevity on the Pjur Aqua is pretty damn good. For male masturbation purposes, a quarter-sized drop of the stuff will get you about 8 minutes of continuous stroking. That quarter-sized drop goes much further during vaginal intercourse where, depending on how long you tend to go, you may not even need a reapplication during your session.

The lube isn’t, however, a silicone lube, and you should keep that in mind. This isn’t likely to be the lube you want to use for keeping an anal plug in for hours, and it’s not likely to be the lube you want to use if you plan on having very vigorous, very long anal sex. For vaginal sex, regular anal sex, and masturbation purposes, though, the Pjur Aqua is a fantastic choice, and you likely won’t experience any problems.

Unlike most water-based lubes, Pjur Aqua doesn’t get too “gummy” during use. Like, at all. You’ll definitely get that sticky, tacky feeling as the lube starts to dry up, but it doesn’t leave any film on the hands as it dries up, and it all turns back into nice, glidable sensations as soon as a small dollop of lube is added to the mix again.

The Pjur Aqua ingredients: Aqua (Water), Glycerin, Ethoxydiglycol, Hydroxypropyl Guar Hydroxypropltrimonium Chloride, Hydroxyethycellulose, Citric Acid, Propylene Glycol, Benzyl Alcohol, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone.

As a note, for some reason, directions on the Pjur Aqua bottle specifically say this lubricant is ONLY compatible with latex condoms. I can’t seem to find any information on the internet as to why a water-based lube wouldn’t be compatible with non-latex condoms, but since my knowledge (or lack thereof) shouldn’t trump a manufacturer’s warning, you should keep that in mind. It’s worth noting that we’ve used it with latex condoms multiple times with no *visible* breakage, but that doesn’t mean that the condoms didn’t break down in a non-visible manner.

Like most water-based lubricants, Pjur Aqua isn’t too hard to clean up after you’re done (and is MUCH easier to clean up than the Pjur silicone lubricants!) Use some warm water and anti-bacterial soap, a bit of wiping, and you’re good to go! If the lube is mostly exhausted, we’ve had no problems removing the remainder of it with moist toilet wipes either. It’s a very easy lubricant to clean up, and that helps with our enjoyment of it.

Like all water-based lube, the Pjur Aqua lubricant is safe for use with all types of sex toys. Silicone, rubber, etc. – it doesn’t matter. Water-based is safe.

Overall, Pjur Aqua is a great water-based lube – but I expected no less from the Pjur brand. While I wish it wasn’t quite as water-y as it is, the lube is otherwise pretty amazing. It lasts a great amount of time, doesn’t really get gummy, is simple to clean-up after use, and is packaged in a stress-free bottle that I never have to worry about. Pjur Aqua has definitely made its way into our lube rotation – and without any complaints. Thanks to TooTimid for providing this high-quality water-based lubricant for my Pjur Aqua review.
