How to Use a Suction Cup Dildo

A GIF shows a realistic, veiny dildo suction cupped to the side of a bathtub. The dildo is turned on, and the tip of the dildo rotates in circles automatically.

You’ve probably seen them. In fact, many sex toy retailers will let you sort by them. Welcome to the world of suction cup dildos – and today, we’re going to talk about how to use a suction cup dildo to have a great time.

Why Do Dildos Have Suction Cups?

You’ve likely used or seen a suction cup before. Simply press that cup up against your desired surface, and the suction cup stays adhered to the surface.

Now, when that suction cup is fastened to the base of a dildo, the dildo comes along for the ride. Pressing that very same suction cup up to the wall will fasten a dildo to the wall or floor, allowing for hands-free use.

This means that the hands can be used elsewhere. This might include pleasuring another body part, holding the position you want to play in, pleasuring another partner, browsing porn, or simply reading erotica.

A lot of people also love the “realism” of a hands-free experience. After all, if you’re riding a biological penis, you don’t really have to use a hand to push it in and out. It’s attached to a body, so it doesn’t require hands to thrust it.

How to Use a Suction Cup Dildo

Now that you know what it is, let’s talk about how to use a suction cup dildo. Honestly, it’s surprisingly simple!

First:

Clean your Surface

Any dirt or residue on the surface where you want to play with your dildo is going to reduce the suction cup’s efficacy. Before you play, take some time to clean the surface where your suction cup is going to go. Allow the area to fully dry before trying to get down to playing.

Clean your Dildo’s Suction Cup

Rinsing and cleaning your dildo before use is a good habit to get into. At a minimum, before you attempt to use your suction cup dildo, give the suction cup a good rinse. Any dust, lint, or hair on the suction cup will make it more likely to slip.

Depending on your suction cup dildo, you may want to leave some of the water or moisture on the suction cup of the toy. This may help it adhere to where you’re about to place it.

Press Your Dildo Firmly Against the Surface

Now that both the dildo and the surface are clean, they simply need to meet one another! Firmly press the dildo’s suction cup base up against the surface where you’d like it to adhere. Grip the dildo around the shaft’s base, as close as possible to the suction cup base, to push the dildo firmly enough against the surface to remove as much air trapped between the dildo and the surface as possible.

Honestly, that’s it!

Now, your dildo should be adhered to the surface, ready for playtime!

Help! My Suction Cup Dildo Keeps Falling!

Let me be real with you: suction cup dildo quality really varies. Some suction cups are built strong enough to rip my glass shelf off the wall when I attempt to pick them up. Other suction cup dildos fall over if there’s a breeze. Just like the dildos themselves, suction cup quality will vary from product to product.

If you want a 100% reliable experience, I highly recommend swapping to a sex toy mount (like the Liberator BonBon) instead. These mounts hold the toy in place by physically restraining the base; they’re much, much more secure.

That being said, if you’d really like to use the suction cup that came with your dildo, I’d recommend:

  • Experimenting with new locations. In particular, most suction cup dildos tend to work best on untextured, smooth surfaces. Untextured, recently-cleaned kitchen counters tend to be one of the easiest ways to experiment with how the suction works. Clean, smooth glass surfaces are also very suction-friendly.
  • Anything with texture will disrupt the suction. Most painted walls or wallpaper include texture of some kind.
  • The best surfaces, in general, are glossy, untextured surfaces. Think porcelain or glass. Some gloss-paint surfaces can work too (like a painted door) but not as well and only if it’s untextured.
  • Ensuring the surface is recently cleaned – and entirely dry. Any crumbs or dirt build up can affect the suction.
  • Keeping lube well-contained. Lubricant getting underneath the suction base will instantly destroy the suction. (Turns out slippery and a strong seal don’t play well together!)
  • Slamming the dildo onto the surface. Don’t hurt yourself or the item (like if it’s glass!) But the force can help push out the excess air that might be interrupting the seal.
  • If using the suction cup vertically (like up against a wall), try not to do too long of thrusts. This can introduce air underneath the suction cup, and it can make it more likely to pull off the wall.
  • Experimenting with a bit of water. Some suction cups respond best to a slightly damp washcloth dragged over the suction cup surface before you attempt to stick it. Others may hate water entirely.
  • Even with best practices, rough play with a suction cup toy may still require multiple resticks during use. It really just depends on the surface you’re using it with and how you play. For example, light thrusts that are completely in line with the shaft will be less bothersome to the suction cup than long, grinding thrusts that change in elevation.

Where to Put Suction Cup Dildo?

In theory, your suction cup dildo can be adhered to any surface around your home.

In reality, some surfaces work better than others.

You’re looking for untextured, clean, glossy surfaces. Ceramics, chromes, and tiles work particularly well. Glass is also an A+ spot, but you also want to make sure you don’t accidentally break the grass while you’re riding your sex toy.

This means some prime spots on where to put your suction cup dildo include:

  • Bathtub ledge
  • Wall of the bathtub
  • Tiled floor
  • Shower wall (if it isn’t glass)
  • Toilet seat lid
  • Front of kitchen appliances
  • Front of a top-loading washing machine or dryer
  • Laminated countertops

Most importantly, ensure anywhere you stick a suction cup dildo has the stability to stay upright and not tip over. Especially if you get rough while riding, you can accidentally topple or break furniture by slamming back into the dildo. Tipping over your washing machine was probably not the afternoon you were planning on having.

Can I Use a Suction Cup Dildo with a Harness?

Yep! The “flared” functionality of a suction cup dildo will allow it to work with virtually any O-ring harness.

That being said, most suction cup dildos have concave shapes. This shape means that the base of the dildo will not make as much contact with the wearer’s skin while wearing it. If your harness-wearer usually gets sore from the base of the dildo ramming against them, this can be great! If your harness-wearer usually tries to grind against the base of the dildo to receive some stimulation, this can entirely eliminate that pleasure pathway.

While rare, some suction cups on dildos are so thin and flexible that they may be able to be “pulled” out of a harness. (The suction cup will “fold up” under pressure, allowing the dildo to be pulled out from the shaft.) Help reduce that likelihood by ensuring your harness’s O-ring is as close to the dildo’s diameter as possible.

Do Bad Dragon Dildos Have Suction Cups?

Most fantasy-style dildos do not come with suction cups. This is for a pretty practical reason: those dildos weigh (literal) pounds, and suction cups are, very rarely, able to support so much weight. A manufacturer would be setting themselves up for a ton of complaints when your 3-pound hulk of silicone wouldn’t stay fastened to your wall like the suction cup’s presence “promised”.

Instead, I’d recommend using a sex toy mount or a harness with your Bad Dragon Dildo or other fantasy-style dildos. Not only will these be more effective with the weight of your dildos, but they can go anywhere around your home.
