Into chastity or want to start experimenting? Behind Barz is a chastity belt company in the UK that specializes in custom-made (to your measurements!) and fully customizable chastity belts. Made from 316 surgical steel steel, the cage is available in various designs: a basic design, a design with a bare cage, and a design with a bare and enclosed cage. The chastity belt’s back can be made with a single between-the-cheeks rod or two cables that run alongside the sides of the cheeks. The belts can also be customized in a plethora of color options (including the standard steel as pictured). The cage can optionally (by default) be locked with two separate locks on the front-side of the cage. The chastity belt reviewed in this review is the Complete System with Enclosed Cage with two optional back cables.
Your new chastity belt will come packaged in enough packaging to protect it – even if you order it from the US and it has to make it overseas. It had absolutely no problem, and the box was still in great shape. The belt and cage were wrapped in black tissue paper, and all of the smaller parts were in plastic baggies while larger parts were packaged in a large, black giftbag. This isn’t retail packaging, but instead, it’s well-packaged love direct from the metalworker himself. My only complaint about the packaging is that it really could use some paper instructions or paper “helpful hints”. Some of that information is on their website, and their customer service has been beyond-amazing, but it’s always nice to go directly from opening the box to trying the device without needing to log onto a computer.
Now, boys and other penis-equipped people, don’t expect that you’ll get to use your chastity belt as soon as you buy it. Like any other built-just-for-your-body item, it might take a little bit of getting used to to get that perfect fit. Like mentioned later on, you’ll need to give yourself a little bit of a trial period to ensure that the metal has fully molded to your body – so take that into account if giving this chastity belt as a gift with a semi-strict wear schedule planned for shortly after.
So, the biggest things about chastity devices are comfort, escapability, long-term wear, hygiene, practicality how easily you can put it on, and of course, appearance. So, how does it rate on all of those scales?
Behind Barz Chastity Review: Putting It On
This is probably the biggest learning curve for the Behind Barz system – and despite having put it on and off for over a month now, it’s still the most difficult part. On the bright side, once it’s on, it really requires minimal adjustment, and it’s very comfortable. It’s just a matter of putting it on in the first place.
I’d highly recommend laying down on a flat surface somewhere. If you have any stomach squish (and almost every human does), this will flatten it out and make it easier to put on the belt without skin getting in the way.
The first part to go on is the waistband metal portion. It comes apart in the front, so it’s just a matter of opening it up and putting it on your body. Once it’s on, the other pieces will follow. All of the pieces slip onto the three locking posts on the front of the metal portion that is visible from the photos. Each piece needs to stay slipped onto every post – similar to the idea behind a binder with three-hole punched paper. However, this is also where the Behind Barz belt can get a bit frustrating. In order to stay tight on the body, this metal waist piece is under a lot of pressure. The belt can start to push your accessories off as you’re trying to put them on – so it requires holding down each accessory as you add the next accessory. This, as you can imagine, can get difficult.
We’ve found that the pressure has started to get a bit worse the longer we’ve been wearing it, so it’s quite possible that this entire issue will be almost non-existent as the belt finally adjusts to the perfect size for his body.
Back to putting on the belt: once the waist portion is on, the accessories need to go on. Behind Barz has designed the system to be modular. That means you can pick and choose what accessories you’d like to use. Don’t feel like the base ring this time? Okay. Don’t want to use the large cage that covers the small cage? That’s fine. You can pick and choose the accessories that you’d like to add to your cage at any point. Each one of these accessories is added to the waistband in order – and if you’re familiar with putting on chastity cages, the process is very similar. In fact, Behind Barz offers a quick video that shows how it all goes together:
Once all of the accessories are on and you’re ready to lock up the chastity belt, two of the three posts can use a lock to lock it onto the body. Locking up the belt requires using the key (same key for both locks), so it’s impossible to look up (without trying really hard) without knowing where the keys are to start. However, if you’re planning on taking him out soon or just don’t feel like locking it up, the belt is fully functional with just the center, non-locking post screwed on tightly. It’s really up to what you feel like doing. Each one of the keys seems to have the same design and seem to be interchangeable with the locks, but since the system is modular, you could always exchange one of the lock posts for a lock of a different type to truly require two separate keys – possible for two keyholders or just to torture the wearer by letting him know he can have one key on him at all times but it still wouldn’t mean his freedom.
Behind Barz Chastity Review: Appearance
My god, it’s gorgeous. In a room full of people wearing chastity devices at a local kink convention, this was the device that had everyone talking – and wanting to see every angle and know every feature about it. It just LOOKS stunning and “inescapable” when placed on someone’s body. Behind Barz offers any of their chastity devices in multiple paint colors/finishes, but we went with the standard steel look. Be aware that the steel look holds fingerprints and smudges relatively easily (as might be noticeable in some of the photos).
As for the waistband, it depends on where you tend to wear your clothing. For my partner, the Behind Barz waist portion came slightly above his pants and underwear on his backside, but it was invisible from the front. Assuming you’re fully dressed, if your shirts tend to ride up your back when you bend over, you will most-likely expose the metal of the chastity device. You may want to take care to hike up your pants before bending while wearing this (if discretion is a concern), but otherwise, the belt doesn’t seem to be visible during any other daily wear or use. It certainly isn’t visible through clothing, and it’s (sadly, from my perspective) actually LESS visible through loose clothing, bulge-wise, than not wearing any belt.
Behind Barz Chastity Review: Inescapable Chastity?
Nope. Not happening. Once locked, I can’t find any way that your “victim” could escape their predicament. In fact, we showed the belt to someone who prides himself on escaping every chastity cage he’s put into, and he says that, due to the locking system, these locks are extremely, extremely difficult to pick, and he certainly wouldn’t be able to do it. Partnered with the fact that the cage goes all the way around the waist, and you can even add an extra cage over top of the base cock cage for even more protection, there’s no way that your “victim” is getting access to his penis and balls unless you allow it. He certainly isn’t going to be able to wiggle his way out of the multiple rings and waistband either.
Behind Barz Chastity Review: Hygiene
Like any chastity cage, hygiene and staying clean is important for wearing your belt. The Behind Barz doesn’t offer any particular concerns in this regard – it should be entirely removed at least once a week for a full, thorough cleaning, but it’s easy enough to do a gentle cleaning around the waistband and around the cage in the shower. Urine doesn’t tend to pool in the cage, and it’s easy enough to get water to run through the entire of the inner cage when bathing. No hygiene concerns with this one!
Behind Barz Chastity Review: Practicality
As the fantasy for many chastity devices is pure 24/7 wear, how realistic does Behind Barz make it? You’d actually think that the belt design would make it less realistic, but that’s not the case. It keeps the cock cage portion in the place where it needs to be and makes a chastity cage actually MORE comfortable!
Using the restroom and performing daily tasks is always a concern as well. You’re going to find that you’ll be inventing/learning new ways to do things. For example, bending at the waist for certain tasks is definitely going to provide a shocking reminder that there’s metal around your waist. This is going to take some getting used to. You’ll eventually get used to the pressure (like wearing a corset!), but there is definitely an acclimation period as you learn to reposition yourself and take different steps to do the things you used to do in a different way before.
As for the restroom, it’s definitely do-able with the Behind Barz design – no reason to need to remove it. The cage portions offer small slits in the base of the cage to allow urine to escape, and the two-cable jock-strap design of the back allows for other waste with no problem. However, you’ll have to kiss the ability to use a urinal good-bye. While it’s possible to urinate while standing with the Behind Barz system, it also is a bit more likely to leave a mess – and in public restrooms, that’s usually not a good idea. Sitting down will ensure that you don’t make a mess on yourself or your clothing, and the straining design works well – we haven’t had any issue with residual liquid being stuck in the cage. A bit of a dab dry, and your pants and clothing will make it out of the restroom unscathed.
On the issue of practical use, how well does this device keep the wearer from getting at his penis and balls? With that in mind, the Behind Barz has absolutely no equal. With just the base model, it might allow the wearer to be able to touch the sides of his penis. However, once you move onto the more-advanced models, this becomes one of the few chastity devices that also makes the balls off-limits as well. A cage over a cage ensures that there’s really no way that the wearer can get at any part of the anatomy between his legs for pleasuring himself.
Behind Barz Chastity Review: Comfort
We were concerned about the comfort of the Behind Barz system, but it turns out that we had no reason to be. It’s downright comfortable. While it definitely takes a little bit of time to get the waist of the belt to form to your body, once that has happened (probably 20 hours of wearing or so), it’s so, so comfortable. The waist band itself doesn’t really cut into the skin, and if you fluctuate in weight, it can be adjusted tighter and looser from your original measurements. (By two inches each way, I believe)
In case you’re still concerned about comfort, Behind Barz offers soft liners that go underneath the waistband’s portion to provide a layer of softness between the metal and your skin. If you’re of a slimmer bodyframe, you might find no reason to use these. However, if you think you’ll have any squish coming out from beneath or above the waist band metal, I really recommend it. It makes the edges (which aren’t rough to begin with) of the metal much softer and plushier on the skin. For anyone with a particularly thick booty, I’d definitely say it’s a good idea.
As for the cage itself, you’re going to be extremely impressed with comfort if all you’ve tried are cage-style chastity cages in the past. The waistband of the Behind Barz system ensures that your cock cage stays up against the body. It doesn’t slip down and tug on your testicles if you get hard. It doesn’t slip down over time. It stays exactly where it’s designed to be positioned. My partner says this is easily the most comfortable cage he owns, and he’s own and worn (including 24/7 wear) quite a few.
If you’re part of the subset of chastity device lovers who are also diaper wearers, this device works particularly well. As long as you’re wearing a full-coverage diaper, it hides the chastity belt entirely. As the belt keeps the penis pointed downwards in a constant position, it also reduces leaks and makes using the diaper much more uniform and predictable.
As a side-note, this is particularly lovely for winter for a couple reasons. For one, if you have heated seats, the belt conducts warmth particularly well but it doesn’t get burn-y. You’ll just find that your penis stays really, really surprisingly warm. For another, getting into the cage is certainly easier as the steel tends to stay relatively chilly in room temperatures – which means making it easier to have a soft penis to get the cage on in the first place.
Behind Barz Chastity Review: Long-Term Wear
As mentioned before, the Behind Barz system is one of the most-comfortable chastity devices that my partner has ever worn. This makes is particularly well-suited to long-term wear. During daytime hours, we’ve had absolutely no problem, and I think it would survive the gym just fine. (He focuses on weight-lifting, so we haven’t had too much of a chance to test-it in the cardio arena). We also haven’t had a chance to test it during sleep – however, what makes most chastity cages uncomfortable for sleep is the pain of getting an erection in the evening. As mentioned below in my Behind Barz review, this chastity belt seems to all-but-eliminate that issue, so I don’t foresee sleep being an issue. I’ll keep everyone updated with progress, though.
I do want to reiterate that: we’ve caused lots and lots of erections in this cage, and absolutely none of them have caused pain. He can definitely feel pressure of the cage pressing against the penis, but none are painful. As most wearers complain of pain of night-time erections being the main cause for issues sleeping in a cage, this SHOULD all-but-eliminate that problem. We just haven’t had the couple non-work days in a row to get him accustomed to sleeping with the waistband portion yet, so we haven’t gotten to investigate it yet.
Behind Barz Chastity Review: Erections in the Behind Barz
The issue with most stand-alone cock cages is that they have absolutely nothing to keep them snugly up against the body. This means that, with any erection, the cage is going to move further away from the body and tug on the base ring – and subsequently, tug on the balls. This doesn’t happen in the Behind Barz system. With multiple testings, we found that erections are actually relatively comfortable in this chastity belt. While he said he wouldn’t call it “pleasant” (and it’s certainly not supposed to be “pleasant” to get hard while in chastity!), he said it is definitely pain-free, and he found no sharp pains, blood flow loss, or stinging.

Behind Barz Chastity Review: Keyholder’s Viewpoint
I’m in love with the Behind Barz cage, and honestly, it throws every other chastity cage in the dust behind it. Not only does it scream “ultimate control” from a submission appearance standpoint, but the cage itself is extremely functional too. I don’t have to listen to him whining about blood flow issues or how it’s pinching his balls. I don’t have to worry about the cage slipping down his package and requiring readjustment. The cage is pretty much as fuss-free as I could potentially imagine.
My only complaint, and it’s a small one, is the visual design of the keys. I’m particularly fond of the look of standard keys – especially when it comes to wearing it as jewelry as a constant reminder that he’s not allowed to have access to his own body. Regular types of dainty keys tend to look at-home on necklaces or anklets without much question. This type of key tends to look out of place when used as jewelry, and it certainly isn’t as attractive. While I’m glad that Behind Barz chose to use a lock and key system that was much more effective than standard locks, I just wish the key design was a bit more sexual-looking.
Attachments are coming on the way too – along with a vagina-centric Behind Barz version. I’m looking forward to the release that will place a strap-on on top of the waist band to easily turn the Behind Barz chastity cage into a strap-on harness. That’s certainly going to be another way to tease the wearer – wearing a dildo right on top of the entire cage that’s keeping him from using his own equipment.
Cleaning and removing the chastity device is just as important as wearing the chastity device itself. As the entire device is made from steel, it isn’t difficult to clean at all. Warm water and anti-bacterial soap will have everything looking pristine very quickly. Avoid any stiff-bristled brushes or anything else that could scratch the surface, but other than that, just ensure that you do a thorough cleaning of the entire belt. I’d recommend ensuring that the none of the smaller pieces (the locks) can fall into your drain, however, so just take a bit of care when taking it apart and cleaning it. Allow it to fully dry before placing it back on a person.
Overall, I’d be hard-pressed to find another chastity system out there that I enjoyed as much. Behind Barz really thought of everything – the design is extremely high-quality and comfortable, the accessories really take the belt to the next level, and the design is just absolutely gorgeous and pretty much impossible to escape. I wish the key was a bit more dainty-looking, but I’m very impressed with the belt already. It’s basically going to mean the rest of the devices are going to sit in a dark corner of the closet and collect dust.
