The 10-Function Pure Skin Studs is a realistic-type of vibrator that uses two AA batteries and is made by California Exotics. It’s made from Pure Skin material, and it includes ten different levels of stimulation and is also waterproof. It’s about seven inches long, and it is available in both a brown and an Ivory color.
The packaging is typical California Exotics packaging. It is a clear, see-through box that displays the Pure Skin Studs dildo in a plastic tray inside of the box. The tray slides out easily and slides back in easily, and it can function as storage if need be. It is a bit larger than the toy, though, so it may be a bit bigger for storage.
The material of this vibrating dildo is really unique. It’s a TPR material called “Pure Skin”. It’s very, very plushy, and open first receiving it (as it’s covered in powder like a Fleshlight would be), it’s silky soft and smooth to the touch. It gets a bit more tacky after a couple washes, so I do wish that it had included care/softening instructions for the material. The material does require special care. It is soft (think like “bread-type” soft if that makes sense.), so you don’t want to scratch it. It also picks up stains if you leave it in stain-filled areas but most of those stains will wash off (I accidentally had some dirt on my desk and placed the toy in it, and it kept up on the stain despite lots of rubbing until I got some good soap and water on it).
The toy is run by two AA batteries. The base of the sex toy unscrews, and you can easily slip in both of the batteries into the base. It does take a bit of shaking to get the batteries back out, but they do come out okay.
The vibrations are pretty good. They’re not the strongest for an external toy, but as this is meant to be an internal toy, the 10 Function Pure Skin Stud works really, really well. The vibrations are strong enough for that. They even seem to get stronger when your muscles contract around it. The loudest setting of the vibration is pretty darned loud – it could definitely be heard in the same room and may be able to be heard outside of a closed door, but it definitely gets quieter when inserted as opposed to used externally.
California Exotics did a really good job with this toy. In terms of material, it’s a good material; it may not be non-porous, but it certainly is plushy and feels semi-realistic. It feels really silky smooth, and honestly, the boyfriend picked it up and dropped it as he said it felt really “odd” for a sex toy – like it was real. With a condom, it will feel like a hard penis that was not rigid but not soft either. After they made a good material, they then put the vibrations in the right place. The vibrations are located about 1/4 away from the tip of the toy, and it transfers wonderfully throughout the tip and upper half of the sex toy. You can’t feel it as much near the base, but near the tip, where it counts, you can feel the vibrations really nicely. Plush materials usually limit vibrations, but with this one, the material actually seems to amplify the vibrations!
After that, they placed the vibrations far enough down from the tip of the toy to keep the tip from being too pointy. The first inch of the toy is very plushy and very flexible, and it isn’t until about an inch down that the toy isn’t as flexible anymore due to the motor. This makes for much more comfortable insertion, and it just makes the toy seem more realistic too.
So what are my downsides? Well, the material is about the biggest downside of this toy. Yes, it feels realistic and yes, it looks realistic, but the material doesn’t feel nearly as smooth after a couple washes, and it also seems a bit fragile. I pressed my nail into it, and while it didn’t tear, it did leave an indentation into it. I’m sure your vagina doesn’t have any sharp edges, but a sharp edge during cleaning or storage could harm it. Aside from that, though, if you want a toy that feels pretty much like an average penis but has some vibrations added onto it, the 1-Function Pure Skin Studs vibrator is uber-amazing for it.
Cleaning this does require a bit more time than some other toys. You want to use warm water and antibacterial soap to clean it, but as Pure Skin is porous, do make sure to use condoms on it if you want the safest experience. The packaging doesn’t say anything about how to take care of the material, but I did notice that the material is not nearly as soft and silky after a couple washings, so it must require some sort of upkeep to keep it really soft and silky like it originally was – I just haven’t figured out what that upkeep is yet. The vibrator is waterproof, but I do have to wonder about how well the toy would work if used underwater and submerged in water over long periods of time. The softness of the realistic material would probably require more care that way, so I’ll probably be sticking to on-land use of this sex toy.
Overall, California Exotics did a stand-up job – really! In terms of affordable, realistic vibrating dildos, it fits the bill. The motor is well-placed, the material is funky (in a good way!), and the vibrations work well for insertion and transfer well through the material. If you want a toy that feels relatively realistic but also vibrates, this one does a good job. It just doesn’t work as an external vibrator – and that’s okay.
