How to Order Custom Sex Furniture

A person sits out on a rocking chair on a sunny balcony. A pink clipboard is on their lap, and they're using a pen to draw out their personalized plans for a BDSM cage, complete with measurements. For my How to Order Custom Sex Furniture article.

You know what you want, and you’re simply not finding it in pre-made options anywhere online. Turns out, ordering custom sex furniture might be the solution for you – only it sounds absolutely terrifying. You’re not a crafter. Is it really possible to bring some of your fantasies to life in your own living room, and how much is it going to cost?!?

Today, I’m going to give you some tips on ordering custom sex furniture. I’ll help you narrow down what you want and get your initial game plan ready for manufacturing. I’ve ordered a couple of custom sex furniture pieces from different manufacturers, and I want to streamline that process for you.

First, Find a Custom Sex Furniture Creator

If it’s a small business that makes sex furniture, they can probably take a custom order. It might be as simple as looking for a “Customize” or “Custom” link on their main website. You can also look for any “Custom Product” listings the manufacturer might have listed on their site. This shows a willingness to make customized BDSM furniture.

Sometimes, like with Fetdom, you might need to send them an email.

Certain manufacturers or creators may have specific procedures and details they need. By starting with the creator first, you have a better idea of what you’ll need to provide in the end.

(If possible, try to plan your custom sex furniture purchase away from the end of the year. The Christmas season is huge for many retailers, and they may not have the bandwidth to handle a customization request during their peak retail season. If you’re turned down near the end of the year, ask if you can check back in in March. Many times, a manufacturer will say yes.)

Know What Custom Sex Furniture You Want

If you’re getting custom-made sex furniture made, you, presumably, are not happy with the available pre-made options. You might want different colors or something that offers more functionality in a single piece of furniture. I’ve also seen couples order custom-made BDSM furniture if they’re looking for a discreet design that will seamlessly fit into their own home decor, allowing them to change a “boring-looking” dining room chair into something kinky.

You could also be fancy AF and just want something that no one else owns. That’s a legitimate reason to order custom-made sex furniture too.

Either way, you’ll want to figure out exactly what you want before you begin the process of ordering your own custom sex furniture.

I highly recommend sitting down and fantasizing for this one. After all, you’re making the sex furniture of your dreams. You might as well have some fantasies about it!

As you fantasize, get out your phone or some pen and paper, and write down a full list of the things you want your sex furniture to accomplish. In a dream world, where you could have anything you want in a piece of customized kinky furniture, what would you want it to be able to do?

If your desire for new custom-made kink furniture comes from a porn or adult movie you’ve seen, make sure to save a link to the video or photo. Visuals are extremely helpful for a furniture creator, and they can help ensure both you and your craftsman are on the same page.

Know What You Don’t Want

It’s also important to know what you don’t want. Unless you’re made of money, it’s really easy to keep adding thing after thing to your potential custom sex furniture design. In the business world, we call this “scope creep”. When you’re going to order some custom BDSM furniture anyway, it seems simple to just add “One more thing!” that might solve some last-minute thought you had.

But every little “one more thing” adds bulk and cost to your BDSM sex furniture. It can also take a piece of sex furniture that looks sexy and sleek and start to make it visually cluttered – and that’s probably not what you’re going for!

So while you’re fantasizing about what you do want from your sex furniture, it’s equally important to consider the other side of the equation.

To make this easy, I’d recommend a few thought questions once you have your list of things you do want your customized BDSM furniture to solve:

  • Will I be able to use this functionality where I want to place this sex furniture?
  • Will this sex furniture addition be at the right height for this functionality?
  • How often do I think I’m going to use this functionality?
  • What all bits and pieces need to be added to the sex furniture to make this functionality possible? (If it’s just a D-ring or two, you might give it the green light. If you need to add height adjustment onto the entire piece of furniture, it may not be worth it.)
  • How easily can I transition between one functionality of this sex furniture to another? Will frustration points between those two movements mean that I won’t use it?

See If Your “Custom Sex Furniture” Sorta Exists

If you want to save a bit of money, now that you know what you do and don’t want, consider seeing if something like what you want already exists.

If you’re hoping to create custom sex furniture to provide foot massages to a bottom, for example, tickling kink furniture might solve your needs – and it doesn’t have to be custom made!

It’s much cheaper (and much easier!) to ask a manufacturer to make minor modifications to a design they already have than to ask someone to come up with an entirely new piece of sex furniture from scratch. Simply making a few changes to an already-there design (if it still fulfills your fantasies) can save you a lot on the final bill.

For example, the sex furniture maker Fetdom can change heights and bondage points for some of their furniture. You simply have to email them, and they can provide a quote for swapping up some of the basic things about their furniture.

Think About Storage

If you’re kinky and open about it, trying to figure out how to discreetly keep a large piece of sex furniture may not matter.

This piece of customized sex furniture is likely to be an investment piece that you’ll keep around for years to come. If you’re looking at ordering some expensive, you might have it for decades.

That means thinking about storage – and thinking about how you’ll move it in/out of a room if you move houses in the future.

Some thought experiments for you here:

  • If your parents or a co-worker were to come over, how would you hide this?
  • If a realtor were to show your house, how would you hide this?
  • If I’m someone who has kinky friends over to play, how well does this furniture fit into your current set-up for socialized playing?
  • If you had a pet or small human around this, would it be safe?
  • If you were moving to a new house, how would you safely move this?

Remember: you may not worry much about discretion now, but if you’re ordering something that’ll run you thousands of dollars, you need to think long-term. Is it something that may be problematic near children? Pets? Co-workers? To move out of your current home? Life circumstances will probably change (in ways you don’t expect!) down the line, and future-proofing your idea now can be really helpful.

Consider Cleaning

Finally, before we get into the math portion, I want you to think about cleaning. This is, after all, a piece of sex furniture, and you’re probably going to get bodily fluids of some kind on the furniture.

What material is your sex furniture made from? Not only does this impact what craftsman you might hire, but it also may change some of your designs. Wood supports weight differently than metal or steel, and your designs may need to change accordingly.

This might also change the look of your furniture. If you plan on having a lot of sex in a specific position on your new sex furniture, you might choose to put a flat, layable surface of easy-wipe material around the crotch area. This will be much, much easier to clean than if you had a joint of metal screws and bolts right there.

Take Measurements

Part of the fun of having completely customized kinky furniture is the fact that it’s unique to you. It’s designed specifically for your space and for your body.

The craftsman you hire to do your design isn’t going to know diddly squat about your needs, though, so you need to provide that information for them.

This means taking a bunch of measurements to ensure that every inch of your new sex furniture matches up with exactly what would suit your body best.

Some measurements I recommend:

  • Measurements of the available, literal floor space where this sex furniture could fit
  • Measurements of the available space four feet in the air around where this sex furniture could fit. (For example, if you had a nearby desk or lamp that overhangs over the space you’re looking to use)
  • Measurements of the ceiling height where you plan to keep it
  • Measurements of any doorway heights/widths that are between the outside world and getting the sex furniture where you want to keep it

You also want measurements for every part of your body and/or your partner’s body. I really recommend having every measurement possible handy to ensure all of the angles line up, but for kink purposes, I’d especially recommend:

  • Width of your hips while laying flat (for any surfaces you might lay on)
  • Height of your hips when bent over (for any spanking functionality)
  • Height of the hips of any partner while standing next to the sex furniture if standing penetration is on the menu
  • Length of torsos/forearms/shins if you need to have pads to rest them against
  • Height of anyone involved if it’s standing furniture

Sketch Out Your Custom Sex Furniture Design

Most of us aren’t architects or structural engineers, but having a picture can really, really help ensure that you and your custom sex furniture maker are on the same page.

Now that you have your idea of what you want, try to draw it out on a piece of paper. Add in measurements where they’re important (like if you know how tall you need the furniture to be).

A person sits out on a rocking chair on a sunny balcony. A pink clipboard is on their lap, and they're using a pen to draw out their personalized plans for a BDSM cage, complete with measurements. For my How to Order Custom Sex Furniture article.

You’re probably going to have a rough draft sketch that has lots of scribbles and doodles as you’re trying to figure this out. You might erase and re-draw a D-ring a few times, or you might try to add a whole new bondage bar to a spot after thinking your needs through.

Speaking of D-rings, make sure you note where you want additional bondage points. Adding O-rings and D-rings to sex furniture is extremely easy, and giving your craftsman an idea of where you want those extra points to be can be really helpful!

When you have all the kinks worked out, redraw your sketch with all of the measurements clearly labeled. The last thing you want is an eraser smudge making it difficult to tell if something is a 3 or an 8. Make sure the copy you present to your customized kink furniture maker is a clean one.

Talk It Out

Now is the less-fun part: you need to talk to the craftsman to figure out what actually is possible. Turns out there are limitations to physics and materials, and bringing your fantasies to life (in a single piece of furniture) may not be as simple as you’d think.

On the bright side, virtually anything can be brought to life if you’re willing to pay for it and have the space for it. It just may not be in the single piece of multi-functional custom sex furniture you were thinking about.

Talk to your craftsman and see what’s possible. If possible, I recommend at least two meetings or regular back-and-forth emails for a few reasons:

  • Your craftsman needs to be able to absorb the premise of what you’re looking for. The layman’s understanding of structural integrity is poor at best, and their job is to take your fantasy and turn it into something that’s real and safe. This means they probably need time to look over your sketches.
  • They then need to ask clarifying questions. Once they’ve gotten a good idea of what you have in mind, they probably have clarifying questions. One number may not match up with another. They might want to know which side of your sex furniture you wanted the D-ring on.
  • Delivery needs to be arranged too. Even if everything is perfect from order-to-creation, you have to actually get the sex furniture into your hands. This usually involves arranging delivery. If they’re local, they may drop it off. If they aren’t, they may want to plan for specific dates to ensure you’re home to sign for the delivery.

After you meet up with your craftsman, remember to respond when they message you.

It seems like a simple thing, but we all can get busy. A craftsman, once they’re started, probably won’t message you unless they need a clarification – and if they need a clarification, it means your entire BDSM project is on-hold until they get that clarification. To reduce delays, make sure you’re responsive to your maker. It can really help reduce delays or mistakes!
