Relaxation and self-care are extremely important to your general health and wellbeing, but of course, what one person finds relaxing may not work for everyone. If you are tired of lists of relaxation ideas that center around things you just find boring, or can’t get into at all, then here are some different relaxation ideas that might inspire you:
Have a Nostalgic TV Binge
If you are looking for something wholesome, then relaxing with a series that you used to love and marathoning your way through the whole thing can be a really relaxing way to use a free evening or weekend afternoon. Whether it’s a classic sitcom or a show you loved as a kid, getting nostalgic with a TV binge can lift your mood and also feel comforting, as you can return to something you haven’t watched in years that reminds you of a time you are fond of revisiting.
Yes, watching old favorite films can have the same effect, but a TV binge can last longer, and you can also spread it out over multiple days if you choose a series with a lot of episodes. You may be surprised how much a re-watch of some classic comedy can lift your spirits, and with streaming services, this is a cheap way to unwind that is always ready to start.
(Bonus points if you grab some snacks to go with that nostalgic binge. I know I used to get those boxed-candies at the movie theaters all the time when I was a kid. You can pick up those same boxed candies for usually less than $2 at most grocery stores.)
Masturbate!
Obviously, this is Kinky World, and obviously, we’re very sex-positive here. So why not try some masturbation? Lots of people use masturbation and orgasms to relax – and if you’re able to get the privacy, it can be fantastic to just melt into a good erotic movie or erotica book, take your time feeling the arousal, and culminating it all with a fantastic orgasm after the entirety of it. I can’t even begin to explain how amazing it feels to spend a few hours reading an erotic book, with all of the build-up, to get to the orgasmic part at the end. Totally awesome.
Maybe you want to try masturbating for exploration instead of pleasure. That’s totally a good relaxation and boredom-buster too. In the process, you might find out new pleasure spots you love! There’s no one out there saying you HAVE to touch yourself for the sole purpose of orgasm. Why not just find out what feels good?
Try Watching Cams
Getting rid of some sexual frustration is always a good way to relax, but sometimes all of us want a bit more – like the back-and-forth and unpredictability of involving another person in our sexual release.
Why not try having some interactive fun by spending some time with a cam girl/boy/person? The cam industry has come a long way since its inception, and it’s possible to find some pretty amazing people on camsites that cater to all tastes – of all genders. Try checking out Babestation which has a great choice of cam girls you can watch immediately. Crack open some wine, break out your favorite toys, and prepare for a fun time!
A Warm Meal
This has really been my go-to lately. Something about the Winter weather makes me constantly crave a warm meal. Something about wrapping my lips around something that’s perfectly-warm for lunch or dinner feels a lot more luxurious than lukewarm take-out food or chilled items like salads. This is also why I’ve been a huge hot cocoa fan lately too. (There’s some great low-calorie cocoas out there if you’re worried about the caloric intake!)
(You also have the avoid the “piping hot” stage. I am not particularly great at that one!)
Make or Draw Something
There is a good reason why those adult coloring books became a thing: it can be very relaxing to do something creative with your hands, especially if it involves just the right level of concentration to take your mind off other things without being taxing enough to become stressful.
Of course, you don’t need a coloring book to get the same effect, and it can actually be even better to try a kind of craft that will result in you making something you actually want as the end result. If you want something simple and easy (and one-purchase), lots of online stores offer DIY kits to easily pick up a DIY craft to do at home – without actually having to do all of the prep work.
Alternatively, if the prep work is part of your enjoyment, you can get tons of inspiration on Pinterest to find out a project to piece together yourself. With the pandemic, you might have to be creative with acquiring the items, but most hobby/craft stores are offering curbside pick-up at this point!
A New Ritual
I don’t have to tell you that a new ritual might be part of an upkeep solution for your self-care. Experts have been going on and on about the power of rituals for years now, and it’s pretty much on every “be more productive” list out there. But you can take the same power of ritual and make it a self-care focus. Maybe you shut out the world for 30 minutes each morning with your cup of coffee? Maybe you craft an after-work ritual that puts you in a less-stressed, more-calm headspace for when you walk in the door to your home?
You know mine? Swapping out a couple of my high-intensity workouts each week for comfortable walks while I read a book. I feel healthier, I feel like my body feels better, and I get to spoil myself by fully immersing myself in reading.
Gaming
Video games are a great form of relaxing escapism, and even if you’re not already a gamer, there are so many different styles of game these days that you are certain to be able to find something to suit you. The video game industry has come so far from just shoot-’em-up games, and most people can fall in love with a video game if they give them a chance.
You can play puzzle games on your phone or tablet, or if you prefer something more immersive, there are lots of great narrative-based games for PC or consoles, as well as visual novels, which allow you to explore interesting stories without having to worry about gaming skill. Don’t forget about fantastic city-building games where you can craft your own city – or the plethora of erotic video games out there.
These are just a few ways you can relax and unwind that you may not have thought of trying. Have another idea? Feel free to leave a comment below.
