The LELO Ida vibrator is a luxury vibrator released by LELO designed for use during penetration between couples. Featuring vibrational capabilities on the external part of the vibrator with an internal shaft that offers rotation, the LELO Ida can be controlled wirelessly by the included remote. Made from 100% silky-smooth matte silicone, the toy includes an insertable shaft that’s 3.7″ with an internal diameter that’s around 0.75″ in width. The vibrator itself is rechargeable while the remote requires 2 AAA batteries (included). The vibrator offers 2 hours of use with a full 2-hour charge. The LELO Ida can be purchased in a gem purple, a bright pink, or an elegant black.
Like all LELO products, the packaging is part of the luxury presentation of your new sex toy. This high-end sex toy used during sex comes packaged in a plastic sturdy black box. This black box is slid inside a cardboard exterior sleeve that tells about the toy. Inside the black box (which works great for storage), you’ll find the vibrator, the remote, information about the 10-year warranty, samples of lubricant and cleaner, a satin storage bag, the battery compartment opening-helper, the instructions, and the charger. The toy also includes the 2AAA batteries that you’ll need to use the remote. The LELO Ida is in packaging that’s easy to wrap up, and it honestly looks just as luxurious as you’d expect in every ounce of the packaging.
While the LELO Ida appears to be designed for heterosexual couples (to be worn by the female partner during intercourse), I can’t see why it couldn’t be used by any other couple make-up. The large, flared external portion would allow it to be anal-safe – but I’m unsure if most people would find too much pleasure from the external portion for anal use. It, however, could still be used. It could also be used as a solo toy for anyone who doesn’t currently have a partner.
Of course, the LELO Ida feels like a luxury toy. It’s made with the gorgeously-silky silicone that LELO is known for. The silicone is extremely smooth with no texture. It also has no give or plushiness to it. It’s rigid and feels closer to a layer of thin silicone covering interior plastic parts. Regardless, it does a great job of allowing the material to transfer as much of the vibration’s power as possible. The silicone has no smell or taste, and it’s entirely smooth and seamless.
Designed for wireless use between the remote and the vibrator, this couple’s vibrator offers multiple methods of control. The vibrator itself includes a single button that can be used to control the vibrator OR turn on the vibrator for use with the wireless remote. The wireless remote will control the vibrator by default – but if the vibrator is turned off, the on-board remote buttons will just control the remote’s equipped vibration settings. The remote includes a “+” button to increase the intensity, a “-” to reduce the intensity, and a pattern button that cycles through all of the patterns. Each one of the patterns allows you to increase and decreases the intensity of that particular pattern. There are quite a few pattern options as it controls the on-board remote vibrations, the vibrator’s vibrations, AND the vibrator’s rotating internal shaft. That’s a whole lot to get across in three buttons.
When it comes to worrying about batteries, you don’t have to worry nearly as much as other vibes. The vibrator is rechargeable via the included wall charger. Plug it into the clearly-marked LELO port, and the vibrator will charge. The vibrator seems to shut itself off after periods of inactivity to help reduce battery use. The remote uses two AAA batteries. Just slip in two AAA batteries, and it will be ready to go. You’ll still have to think about batteries, but as mentioned before, the vibrator itself can be controlled without use of the remote, so if you’re missing batteries, you can still enjoy the vibrator – you just can’t control it wirelessly.
The first thing you’ll have to worry about with the LELO Ida is its fit with your own body. The external vibrational portion is designed for clitoral stimulation while the internal portion is supposed to offer internal (possibly g-spot) stimulation. Nothing about the distance between the two points is flexible. That means that your clitoris will be, optimally, closer to the vagina rather than farther to ensure this toy will work. There is exactly two inches between the base of the internal shaft and the furthest-away point on the external vibrator. This means that, unless your clitoris is located within two inches or you don’t insert the internal portion to the base, the external vibrator will not reach far enough to touch the clitoris. Again, this is an individual body difference, but the LELO Ida offers no way to adjust this. I fall under the “math isn’t on my side” on this one, and there doesn’t seem to be much to “fix” that.
Even if it had hit the right area, I’m not sure that most people will find the external vibrations to be impressive. They are definitely on the lighter, buzzier end of vibrations. In fact, if the vibrations aren’t enough for orgasm, you may or may not find yourself so numb from the surface vibrations that orgasm may not be possible. It’s frustrating – to say the least. If you know that you tend to do well with lighter, less “deep” vibrations, expect that you’ll be fine with what LELO Ida can provide, though.
That’s not to say that it instantly makes the LELO Ida garbage, though. The use options allow you to turn off the external vibrations while still enjoying the internal rotation. This is where I’d say that the LELO Ida shines. Not only (if the toy works for your body) does it offer something firm that the clitoris can grind against during penetration to achieve orgasm (even without the vibrations), but the internal arm offers steady rotations. Unlike crappy rabbit vibrations, the internal rotations continue even when the internal muscles tighten or when a penis penetrates at the same time. In fact, adding penis penetration makes the toy work better. It moves the internal shaft closer towards the g-spot while a penis doesn’t get in the way of the rotations. It does, however, allow the penis owner to experience the regular rubbing of the rotations on his penis as well. I’ve been told it’s a pretty pleasurable and “different” experience.
When it comes to using the LELO Ida, “slow and steady with constant contact” should be your mantra. While the vibrator might stay in during sex if you’re jackhammering or pulling all the way out, both of those actions tend to disturb the toy and increase the likelihood of it slipping out – or just moving away from the pleasurable areas that the toy is supposed to be stimulating in the first place. The Ida works best with constant-contact positions where more of a “grinding” motion is used instead of full thrusts. While this might reduce the sensation of a penetrating partner, the LELO Ida adds more sensation to that partner’s experience as well, so it makes up for it. While I can’t speak for all penetrating partners, I would imagine that this toy provides enough stimulation – between the vibrations and the tighter fit – to still allow orgasm even with slower movements.
I think most couples will need to experiment to find out what position works best for them. This may not be a toy that screams “perfect fit!” on the first try. While constant-contact positions seem to work best, what type of position will work for you two depends on your body types. Some penetrating partners might find that the thickness of the external base feels uncomfortable when placing their body weight on top of their partner during missionary. Be prepared and open to do a bit of experimenting when using it to find what’s going to work perfectly for both of you.
Finally, let’s talk about the wireless capabilities. They’re more-than-enough for use during intercourse. The controls are responsive and offer no delay or problems when used during intercourse with no clothing in the way. The remote and the vibrator connect to itself really easily. It’s not-at-all frustrating. Both items (remote and vibrator) can also be used and controlled on their own without each other. This means if you’ve forgotten to charge the vibe or don’t have the batteries for the remote, you can still use the other half of the sex toy.
Some people might get the “idea” to try to use this for public play. It’s possible, but it might be fraught with frustration. First off, the LELO Ida wasn’t really designed to stay in on its own. When standing with the toy in, the heavier external portion pulls it out pretty easily. You’d need really-tight underwear with pressure in the right point to keep it in place. This adds the problem of clothing. Unless clothing is really light (light summer dress, etc.), the remote isn’t nearly as responsive with clothing in the way. You’d want to do some experimentation in your home to figure out exactly what will work before attempting to surprise your partner with it in public.
Speaking of “experimentation”, you should be aware that the remote offers vibration capabilities as well. Whether you find this the most frustrating addition ever (like me) or whether you find it helpful depends on whether you’d enjoy having an extra vibrator to go with your vibrator. If you’re the type of person who’d love to vibrate other erogenous zones (nipples, etc.) with the remote, you might enjoy this feature. However, since the LELO Ida should, presumably, be placed and covering most of the genital-area erogenous zones, the vibration capabilities that come standard on the wirelessly-controlled LELO toys don’t make much sense with this one. Luckily, it can be turned off. Unluckily, you’ll end up turning it back on by accident sometimes when controlling the toy.
Like any other sex toy out there, you will have to clean your new silicone sex toy to ensure it’s always ready to use. The vibrator is 100% waterproof – this makes it a breeze to clean. The remote seems splashproof, though, so you’ll want to be careful when cleaning the remote if you happened to get it near bodily fluids. Warm water and anti-bacterial soap will clean up all of the toys pretty easily. As there’s no good way to protect the toy (condoms, etc.) from bodily fluids, you’ll want to consider this a toy to be fluid bonded – don’t assume you’ll be able to use it with a lot of unrelated partners. For lubricant, you’ll want to use water-based. However, if natural lubrication is enough, you may not need any extra lubricant application.
Overall, the LELO Ida is going to be a good internal stimulator, and it offers rotations that can be used during intercourse – something that no other vibrator for sex offers. With its unadjustable design, however, you’ll need to have the “compatible” anatomy to take advantage of simultaneous g-spot and clitoral pleasure with the toy. Even if the clitoral portion doesn’t reach how you’d like, though, it still make be worth exploring purely for the very lovely internal vibrations. The wireless control works very well, but the remote is equipped with vibrations that feel more annoying than useful. Regardless, with all of the luxury and customization options that the LELO Ida is equipped with, you’ll most-likely be able to find a way to make this sex toy improve your sex life – whether it be by more internal stimulation or external stimulation. Thanks to LELO for providing this vibrator for sex for this LELO Ida vibrator review.
