I’ve owned a couple LELO sex toys in the past including a Lelo Ella and a Lelo Billy. With their quality in mind, I’ve been loving to try out some new Lelo products, so when Pink Cherry, a sex toy store, asked me to pick out some products to review, I really wanted to try out the Lelo Mia.
The Lelo Mia is a gorgeous luxury clitoral vibrator made from plastic with some silicone highlights. The Mia is four inches long when assembled and with less than an inch of diameter. The neat thing about the Mia is that it comes in two different pieces – the body of the vibrator itself and the cap. Now why would a vibrator need a cap, you ask? Well, because the Mia is a neat, new advanced vibrator that charges by USB. So during use, you wouldn’t want a USB to be left open. To remedy this problem, Lelo decided to make a cap that goes over the vibrator.
The body of the vibrator itself is made entirely of plastic except for the silicone that covers the control panel and the metal that makes a decorative mark on the upper-part of the toy. One end of the vibrator is curved for pleasure and the other end has a USB device for charging. The USB device is sitting in a nice silicone piece, so the cap will stay on more effectively. The other half to this sex toy is the cap to the Mia. It’s just a regular cap made from plastic in which one end is more slanted and has the “Lelo” name etched onto it. The cap fits onto the USB end of the Mia, and the silicone of the Mia itself is supposed to keep the cap on.
The packaging for the Lelo is just as gorgeous as it always is. It includes a small box with the Lelo name etched into it. On the inside, you will put out a plain black box with the Lelo name etched into it. From there, you can pull off the top piece and the Mia will be sitting in it’s two pieces on a nice plastic tray that keeps it organized. Underneath the plastic tray will be the instruction manuals, the satin white bag, and the extension cord. I prefer to keep my toys in the box they came in, but the Satin bag would easily fit the Mia in it with no problem. It would fit all of the instruction manuals too. However, it would not fit the USB extension cord.
As you may have guessed, the Mia is a rechargable toy. It uses the USB port included on the vibrator itself to charge it up. I actually just shoved it straight into my laptop to charge it while I was writing a review on a different toy. It’s actually pretty neat to recharge (or annoying, depending on how you feel about it) because while it’s charging, the LED behind the control panel will blink with a pink light. While I found it to be cute and easy to ignore, other users may find it annoying if it’s constantly on while attemping to use a laptop. When it is finished charging, it will light up with a constant pink light. From there, it has about a two hour use time on about an hour’s worth of charging. According to the Lelo website, it has about ninety days that it can hold the charge.
If having something plugged directly into your products bothers you, Lelo does include a foot long extension cable that will allow you to plug the USB of the Mia into the cord then the cord will plug into your computer. When plugged in, I found no difference in computer performance. In fact, the computer didn’t even recognize there was a USB in which makes me think there’s nothing on Mia that counts as software. If computers aren’t your thing, other products include USB ports such as PS3s, Wiis, Xbox, or other select products.
While I love the new technology, I did find that it had some problems during use. During use, I kept finding that I was a little worried about the cap coming off. It never came off completely, but it did worry me and I felt like it was slipping off all of the time. This definitely hindered my ability to enjoy it. I wish the cap came with a locking feature – then I wouldn’t keep feeling like the cap was sliding off. The cap is in the exact place where I’d like to hold the vibrator to use it, so it can get a little awkward to try and hold it there and the cap slides off.
While the Mia is rechargeable, it does include some good vibration levels. By pressing on the (very straight-forward) + or – symbol on the control panel, the Mia will either give stronger or weaker vibrations. The vibrations are nothing that exciting. Even at their strongest, they only equal a medium-high on most other vibrations. There’s really just four levels of vibration strength – just from the lowest (which is pretty darn low) and then it goes up to the higest setting it has. It was enough to do its job, but it definitely didn’t make it easy or earth-shattering. The controls are easy to control, and if you want to shut it off, all you have to do is hold the “-” sign down until the vibrations cease.
The Mia also includes some pulsation settings. They may be difficult to find at first unless you read the instructions. Once you reach the highest setting with the “+” button, you just have to hold the plus-sign down for five more seconds then release, and it will unlock the pulsation settings. The first one is a slow pulsation from lower vibration setting to a higher vibration setting, the second one is a fast pulsation from the low vibration setting to the high vibration setting, and the third vibration is just fast pulsations at the same intensity.
The neat thing about the vibration levels is actually how quiet this is. This is extremely discreet. If on the lower settings, it’s impossible to hear the vibrations even while sitting in the same room with other people. On the highest setting, you can hear it, but it would be near-impossible to hear it through a closed door. If discreet is something you need, this is one of the most discreet vibrators out there. Another fact that makes it discreet – unless someone is looking very intently at this toy, it’s going to look like a tube of lipstick. If kept in the satin bag, someone may even mistake it just for a tampon. It’d be easy to keep this in your purse without anyone questioning your judgment.
Cleaning and whatnot isn’t too hard. Because it has silicone pieces, I recommend against using silicone lubricant with this. Use water-based lubricant, and use it very stringently because I can imagine that large amounts of lubricant could slip off the cap. The instructions also recommend that you use warm water and antibacterial soap to clean the Mia. The Mia does have a USB drive attached to it, so be careful about cleaning. Technology like that still doesn’t enjoy water nor soap.
What I think would have improved the Mia? I would have loved for it to actually act as a jump drive. Then I could store homework AND masturbate with it. Sounds pretty awesome if you ask me. :)
So how is this meant to be used? Because of the small size, this really should only be used externally. Internally would work vaginally, but it’s pretty small – it wouldn’t deliver much pleasure. This should definitely NOT be used anally because of the lack of a flared base – this could easily get lost – at least the cap could at the very least. This works great for a vibrator to carry around with you or for public use.
If you don’t need very strong vibrations to enjoy yourself, this is perfect. If you need privacy when using with your vibrators and want something that’s quiet and easy to hide, this is amazing. If you prefer strong vibrations for your toys, this may not work well. To purchase this great luxury sex toy, go to this sex toy store and purchase the Lelo Mia.
