Should I upgrade to the We-Vibe Tango X?

I’ve been a big proponent of the We-Vibe Tango over the years. It truly is one of the strongest bullet vibrators I’ve played with – though with improvements in technology, other sex toys are starting to creep into that trophy area (like the FemmeFunn Booster Bullet which gets some fantastic reviews.) I’ve already written a We-Vibe Tango review before, but now, We-Vibe has just released a new version of this classic plastic vibrator: the We-Vibe Tango X. Their marketing material claims that the We-Vibe Tango X has a new, stronger power level – and a redesigned shape.

So let’s compare the We-Vibe Tango and the We-Vibe Tango X. Should you upgrade to the We Vibe Tango X?

We-Vibe Tango X and Tango: Design

I’ve primarily used the We-Vibe Tango for use with other sex toys. That’s the fun of a bullet vibrator for me: it fits into other toys. When I have a dildo with a bullet hole base (like the Mr Hankey’s Dragon, Vixen Creations Annie-O, FunFactory ShareVibe, Tantus Sam – I could go on all day!), the We-Vibe Tango can replace the (usually crappy), cheap bullet that comes with the dildo.

The We-Vibe Tango also comes out a lot for the strap-on harnesses. It’s the absolute perfect fit for my Spareparts Joque, and it’s worked in every other strap-on harness bullet vibrator pocket that I’ve tried it in. It honestly just lives in my strap-on dildo drawer because it just gets used primarily with strap-on harnesses to add more pleasure to pegging.

So, as you can imagine, the thinner design of the We-Vibe Tango was a bit selling point for me. The original We-Vibe Tango has the thinner design that lets it replace the standard bullet vibrator. You know, that silver, tiny, buzzy thing that runs off three watch batteries and promptly gets lost three days after you get it.

The We-Vibe Tango X sorta still has that thinner design – but it definitely got chunky at the butt. This chunky-butt design means that the We Vibe Tango X doesn’t really fit into the same places that the original We Vibe Tango easily fit. The We-Vibe Tango Original has a good 3.5″ of the same-diameter thickness that could slide into areas. With the We Vibe Tango X, you get about 2″ of the thinner diameter before that chonky butt starts to come into play. So when you’re sliding it into bullet-vibrator

If you handhold the We-Vibe Tango X, though, this chunky butt is a LARGE improvement. The vibrator is still roughly the exact same size as the original We-Vibe Tango, but it just got so much easier to control and hold. The silicone offers a much more “draggy” surface to keep your fingers from sliding off compared to the all-plastic design of the original We-Vibe Tango. The chunky butt also is, well, chunky – so it’s easier to grip in your fingers and feels more natural. This “chunky butt” space also offers better control of the vibrator because it has more space to include three buttons to control the vibrations – instead of the original Tango’s single button at the base. This makes getting to your favorite vibration pattern easy and simple – instead of annoying.

The chunky butt of the We-Vibe Tango X also makes a better hand-hold for your fingers. While the WeVibe Tango’s flat design means that your fingers get just as much vibrations as your vagina does, the redesign of the We Vibe Tango X means that your fingers have a nice, thick silicone “buffer” between you and the vibrations. If you primarily handhold the We Vibe Tango X, this is a large improvement and makes the entire experience of using the vibrator much less finger-numbing.

For those that use the Spareparts Joque strap-on harness with their We-Vibe Tango, the We-Vibe Tango X DOES fit, and it will stay within the harness, but the slightly-longer length changes how the harness fits onto the body in a less-comfortable way than the Tango. The We-Vibe Tango was already at the limits of the Joque’s bullet vibrator compartment, and the Tango X just pushes it a little too far. If the fit isn’t bothering you, though, enough of the We-Vibe Tango X’s size is in the strap on harness to prevent the bullet from sliding out.

(Neither vibrator offers wireless control or app control of the vibrator, though – which was my general complaint about the original We-Vibe Tango. I’m actually surprised that We-Vibe chose to forego app connectivity on the new We-Vibe Tango X – since the vast majority of their products offer app connectivity at this point.)

We-Vibe Tango Compared to We-Vibe Tango X: Power

Of course, most people don’t necessarily want to upgrade their vibrator unless it’s broken, dying, or there’s a real reason to upgrade – like it fixes complaints you have with your current vibrator or increases the pleasure the vibrator can put out.

In this case, something seems like it was definitely done with the motor – in a good way.

While the We-Vibe Tango has always been powerful (that’s kinda been its thing and why it exploded in popularity as a bullet vibrator), the We-Vibe Tango X takes up it up just a little bit more. I don’t know if I notice too much of a difference in the actual “power” of the vibrations, but I notice a large difference in how they feel.

That is, when pressed against the skin, the We-Vibe Tango X vibrations feel surprisingly deeper than the We-Vibe Tango vibrations do. Just holding the two, I don’t necessarily notice a difference in power, but when I press it up against skin with the tip of the vibe, I definitely notice a change in the vibration. That is, the Tango seems more surface-level (which is a feat considering how powerful and rumbly the Tango is!) compared to the We Vibe Tango X.

I wouldn’t call it impressively more powerful, but I’d say they probably squeezed 20% or 25% more power into the WeVibe Tango X compared to the WeVibe Tango. I wouldn’t necessarily upgrade based on new power alone, but if the other features appeal to you, the power upgrade is definitely a fun bonus if you choose to pick up the We-Vibe Tango X.

We-Vibe Tango Compared to We-Vibe Tango X: Charging

It’s a minor point, but magnetic charging technology has come a LONG way since the We-Vibe Tango was released a long, long time ago. The charger for the We-Vibe Tango X is much more streamlined, modern, and feels a lot more “put together” versus the charger of the original Tango which almost looks a bit duct-taped together in design.

The connection level corresponds to that better-upgrade in design too. The original WeVibe Tango could be knocked off the charger pretty easily – and with its round design, occasionally just knocked itself off the charge.

The upgraded design of the WeVibe Tango X is a drastic improvement. Not only are the magnets powerful enough to support the entire weight of the We-Vibe Tango X dangling in the air, but the cord feels much more polished and easy to use. The magnets can technically be attached upside down on the WeVibe Tango X, but with the slanted surfaces of both the vibrator and the charger itself, you’d have to intentionally attach it upside down because it looks so weird when you try to charge it that way.

So the We Vibe Tango X will happily charge itself – and won’t fall off the charger with a slight breeze.

(My We-Vibe Tango is about 10 years old, so I’m not going to pit these two’s battery lives against one another in real-time. But it’s worth noting that my Tango vibrator from 10 years ago is STILL WORKING. The original We-Vibe Tango was designed to run for two hours off a single charge – and the We-Vibe Tango X has the exact same battery life.)

Should I Upgrade to the We Vibe Tango X?

In short, it depends – primarily on what you do with the Tango currently. If your primary use for the Tango is to slide it into other toys and other objects for instant power, you might find the new, thicker design of the We-Vibe Tango X to be a problem. The upgraded power and easier-to-control buttons might be worth it for you, but you’ll want to measure the places where you normally use the WeVibe Tango and figure out whether the Tango X’s slimmer insertable size is still workable for what you use it for.

But if your primary use of the We-Vibe Tango has always been to handhold it, the We Vibe Tango X is a very large improvement. The thicker base makes gripping it so much more comfortable, and the three actual-buttons mean you can cycle through the vibrations in a way that’s much less frustrating. The boost in power and vibration depth is very welcome – but otherwise, the WeVibe Tango X still keeps everything that caused you to fall in love with the original Tango vibrator: a slanted tip for targeted pleasure, a plastic body that transmits vibrations really well, and a small-size that fits virtually everywhere.

(As long as We-Vibe continues to sell the original Tango, I’ll see the We-Vibe Tango X as an equally-amazing vibrator with its own upgrades compared to the Tango. I’m going to be a sad Kayla if I find out that they’re replacing the Tango with the Tango X though – as I feel like the Tango X removes the majority of my uses for the Tango – like slipping it into harnesses and sex toys. If I want to handhold a toy, I’ll generally grab a larger, more powerful one, but I understand that isn’t the case for everyone, and the We-Vibe Tango vibrator series has made its mark for being an amazingly powerful small vibrator.)
