“Tristan Taormino’s Expert Guide to Advanced Anal Sex” is a Vivid-Ed series DVD directed and taught by Tristan Taormino. The movie is a little over 2 hours long, and it features an anal workshop and four different sex scenes. The movie includes stars such as Nina Hartley, Adrianna Nicole, Mr. Marcus, James Deen, Danny Wylde, and others. It was released in July 2011. It comes in a regular DVD format, and it had absolutely no problem playing on my Windows computer.
It is an educational DVD designed to teach you how to have “advanced” anal sex. At the same time, the DVD also attempts to make it fun to learn by including sex scenes. With all of the ways to customize your experience (with no educational sections or with educational sections), Tristan Taormino’s Expert Guides series makes it easier to “learn” by watching rather than by having to read. Sure, the reading aspect will get you more information, but when it comes to learning something with your partner or wanting to be aroused or see things in action, you really can’t compete with a DVD.
Tristan Taormino’s Expert Guide to Advanced Anal Sex starts off with the Anal Workshop like all Vivid-Ed DVDs do. This is a small portion that is just Tristan discussing things you need to know about advanced anal sex as well as things that wouldn’t be well-demonstrated during sex (such as diagrams of anal anatomy). This includes how to prepare before anal sex, the anatomy of the butt, lubricants and the dangers of numbing lubes, butt plugs and how to prepare yourself for penetration (including different ways to make a butt plug harness to keep it in!), positions for anal intercourse, and the importance of listening to your body if something hurts.
This section was only 20 minutes long, but it was filled with a lot of great information. I was impressed by how comfortable Tristan was in front of the camera, and while it was obvious she was in her “presenter” voice, it wasn’t awkward at all. It just made it easier to understand. I’m glad to see that Tristan decided against the Question and Answer format with an audience that she’s done in the past; just standing and talking (with intermittent clips from the movie to keep things interesting) seems to work best. The only thing I was not-so-impressed with was the sex positions portion of this. I feel like it went on for about five minutes. Tristan would describe a position and we would see a couple engaging in that position. While it was fine for two minutes, once it started bordering on five minutes, I was bored of the whole list of positions and wanted it to be over with. The positions are all listed in her book about Anal Sex positions, so I really wish she would have made this version shorter and included the full thing as a Special Feature.
After that portion was finished, we start with the sex scenes. The sex scenes are all formatted in the same way. First we listen to the two people talk about what they like and dislike about anal sex as well as their tips to do it properly. Then, of course, the people engage in anal sex! It’s not all the same way, though. Some use butt plugs, some use fingers, some warm up with lubricant shooters to get properly lubricated, and some have sex while a butt plug is in. Each couple really makes it their “own” and enjoys it exactly how they find it pleasurable, and that’s what I really like about the sex scenes in this movie.
There are four sex scenes (officially), and each scene is focused around a male and a female having sex. There is a scene with Kylie Ireland and James Deen, another with Adrianna Nicole and Danny Wylde, another with Bobbi Star and Mr. Marcus, and another with Nina Hartley and Christian. Each couple obviously has chemistry, and it’s really neat to see all of the communication that goes on between each couple. Tristan doesn’t chop out the talking, so you get to hear them talk about whether things feel pleasurable or not or how to better improve it. It really has more of a “realistic” experience that’s really sexy to watch.
James Deen is surprisingly sexy. I actually could probably listen to him talk all day. His scene with Kylie Ireland was really hot – except there was a squeaky bed issue. Maybe this was left in to make the sex seem more like “real” sex that couples would have; I’m not sure. It was slightly distracting, but after watching the two of them have sex for awhile, you do start to tune it out.
The next scene is with Adrianna Nicole and Danny Wylde. Danny Wylde talks in a way that makes him sound really innocent, and it’s adorable, and he and Adrianna get along with a good sex scene. The couple is not quite as talkative as James and Kylier were, but they both do a lot of panting and moaning. The scene, while I didn’t like it as much as James and Kylie, is still definitely hot and worth rewatching.
After those two comes Bobbi Starr and Mr. Marcus. The two of them have an easy chemistry, and at times, the scene comes across as slightly kinky with domination and submission. (I also love the fact that her purple Tristan butt plug matched her purple heels.) The couple explores a ton of different sex positions, and Bobbi does spend a large amount of the scene moaning and making noise. I wish I could have heard more from Mr. Marcus, but when he does speak up, he does make it count.
The last scene is with Nina Hartley and Christian. I really enjoy the fact that Christian plays in this scene with a butt plug in, and I actually don’t think I’ve seen Nina in any scenes before. I love that the two of them seem to have comfort between them, and while it doesn’t seem quite as passionate as the other’s couplings, instead, it feels much more comfortable in a way that long-term friends would have sex. Plus, Nina ends up strapping on and humping Christian which is just downright hot.
As always, I’m extremely impressed by the sex toy use in the movie. There are Hitachi’s, butt plugs, and tons of other toys featured in the movie. Tristan talks about the different kinds, and you’ll see a lot of the performers actually using them during their scene. I love that sex toys are displayed as a normal part of the scene and the performer’s sex lives. That’s a great way to go about showing how awesome sex toys can be.
The movie has a ton of interesting Special Features as well. There’s safer-sex and choking safety information (yes, choking! I’m impressed!), strap-on tips, anal hygiene tips, solo prostate stimulation information (especially helpful if you want to learn how to use those Aneros/Nexus prostate toys!), a photo gallery, previews of other videos, Vivid extra clips, and a Vivid.com special offer. Along with that, on the scene selection, you can choose each scene by the actors that performed in it.
My only large complaint about the movie is that this movie seems to contain a lot less education than the previous Vivid-Ed movies I’ve watched have contained. This one has a great anal workshop portion, but after you finish watching that (of which the content seems to be similar to the other Anal education Vivid-Ed DVDs I remember watching), that seems to be it for your education. I don’t feel like I really learned anything advanced from the movie.
Along with that, I haven’t really figured out what makes this movie “Advanced” compared to Tristan’s other movies. I don’t remember seeing anything in this movie that really struck me as advanced. The only specific thing that struck me as advanced was the special feature on how to choke safely. Aside from that, though, I’m still a bit confused as to what advanced techniques were being taught.
Overall, though, I definitely recommend this movie if you’re looking more for hot, passionate sex with actors with chemistry. However, I don’t recommend it if you’re coming at it looking for more information. For the sex, though, it’s definitely worth it as the actors obviously enjoy what they’re doing, there is some serious on-screen chemistry, and there’s just some downright hot sex! I’m really fond of the way that Tristan sets up her sex scenes, and they are certainly hot to watch. Thanks to Tristan Taormino for sending me a copy of this sexual education DVD for my review.
