The Roto-Bator Male Masturbator Review

The Roto-Bator Male Masturbator Review
The Roto-Bator set.

UPDATE MAY 2022: The Roto-Bator Masturbator is no longer in production.  This sex toy review remains as a reference for those who are interested in this penis sex toy. While you’re here, why not check out my BDSM advice, femdom advice, and BDSM scene outlines?

The Roto-Bator is a male masturbator unlike anything that’s been made before sold by this sex toy store and made by Pipedream Products. It basically consists of three parts – the handle where the batteries go and two different attachments that attach to the handle. When batteries are inserted, the batteries swirl around in a circle. You can also make the product vibrate as well. The body of the Roto-Bator is made from plastic while the attachments are made from silicone. Instead of thrusting into the toy, this one is designed to just circle around the penis for stimulation. This doesn’t have a cord and is just powered by 4 AA batteries which aren’t included.

The packaging for this definitely is more luxurious than I imagined it’d be. It’s a black, discreet box that has a Roto-Bator slipcover over top to announce the product. Once you receive it, you can throw the slip-cover away and it will be very discreet and perfect for storage. Inside of the box, there is foam with cutouts where the different pieces go. The entire thing is lined with a satin that makes it all look very luxurious and romantic.

So, the two attachments: One is intended for stimulation of the penis while the other is intended for stimulation of the nipples and other erogenous zones. The silicone is very flexible, and while the boyfriend was frightened when he thought he was going to put his penis in this, it certainly doesn’t hurt in the slightest as long as you lubricate yourself and put a bit of lubricant on the silicone portion. Inside of the silicone cylinder are small “ledges” of silicone that jut out into the main body of the toy. I promise they don’t hurt – even brushing my finger over them, they give easily.  In fact, they feel pretty neat against my finger.  Once you reach the end of the tube, there are small little bumps at the top to provide extra stimulation.

The cylinder attachment is about five inches tall, so if you are longer than that, the base of your penis will not be completely covered.

The other attachment is the erogenous zone tickler. It’s circle-shaped with the bottom of it being much lower while the sides come up. The entire circle is a bit larger than an inch across. The entire surface of the thing is covered in small little silicone nubs. These also give way easily under pressure. If your chest is completely flat, you might have a bit of a problem having the center of this reach your nipple since the toy is curved. However, you can easily use the outer edges of this instead. This can also be used to tickle another partner, on the head of your penis, or on your testicles.

Showing how soft and bendable the silicone is

The attachments are extremely easy to switch on the main controller. They screw on just like lightbulbs. Once screwed on, it doesn’t seem like regular use will make them unscrew – even if you are using the rotating function of the toy. Surprisingly, even after multiple testings, the rotation of the toy never caught his pubic hair and pulled. As a serious sidenote, never take hold of the silicone portion and let go of the handle while it’s rotating. This causes a backwards rotation. So the handle rotates in circles instead of the attachment and causes lots of swearing since hands are lubricated and you can’t grasp the handle to make it stop.

Like stated earlier, this penis masturbator is controlled by 4 AA batteries. These can easily be inserted when you slip the back cover off the masturbator. Because of this style of battery compartment, this sex toy is NOT waterproof and will die a horrible death if you get it wet. This can make cleaning it a slight problem, but as long as you use a slightly damp washcloth for the base of the sex toy, you shouldn’t have any problem.

The erogenous zone stimulator attachment

This sex toy has two different functions which are both controlled at the base of the handle by two separate switches. The two functions are vibration and rotation. Each function has “Off, Low, and High”. The low of the vibration sends a steady buzz through the toy and the High sends a stronger one, but these are nothing compared to a female vibrator. They are soft compared to a made-for-vulva vibe, but for the penis experience, the boyfriend said it works fine. The rotation goes from a semi-slow to a fast. The fast setting should be all that anyone needs since I imagine anything faster would hurt (the boyfriend agrees.)

I can’t say that this one is soft – it sounds like a loud vulva vibrator. The rotation honestly sounds like a soft powertool, so this could easily be heard through a closed door, so sorry guys if you need some privacy. If you just use it purely for the vibrations though, it doesn’t make much noise.

I imagined the Roto-Bator had to be a great toy. For the price they are offering it, I imagined it would be an amazing toy that would provide some great stimulation. The packaging made me think that exact same thing as well since it looked great. I didn’t think it would get the boyfriend to orgasm, but I definitely thought it would provide some sexy sensations to tease.

Showing how the attachments screw on.

We were disappointed though. We’ve tried this about four times (and I had to beg the boyfriend to try it the last two.) He lubed himself up then the toy and gave the cylindrical one a try. He said it felt really awkward – not really sexual at all. He couldn’t find himself getting aroused while feeling like he was holding this awkward blender on his penis. In fact, he got completely soft and unaroused three out of four times we tried it. I think this is more of a mental block on his part than a fault of the toy though. I just don’t imagine this will be a good toy for us because of how “odd” and revolutionary it is. Apparently, the boyfriend is resilient to change.

While he was still using it before he got soft, I did get some feedback though. He said the cylindrical rotation felt okay, but it was a really odd sensation. He didn’t describe it as pleasurable, but slightly ticklish, but he definitely could feel it on himself. He preferred the vibration of the cylinder a lot more than he preferred the rotation. He said that he sincerely doubted that he’d be able to orgasm through this because it doesn’t actually provide any pressure to any part of the penis, but it does provide an interesting sensation that he said he thinks others will probably like more than he did. He says he doesn’t expect this to be able to get most guys to orgasm though.

We both liked the erogenous tickler piece a lot more. It definitely tickled quite a bit, and we ended up playing with this one as a couple’s toy instead of a masturbator. It feels tickly on the skin when set as rotation, so you can set this to rotate, and it tickles much like a feather would. While the sound would be a dead giveaway of what you are doing, the sensation doesn’t change much. The ticklers are very flexible. He didn’t like this much on his testicles, but liked it more on his nipples. It did provide tickly – not so much erotic, sensual pleasure. If you used this on someone’s foot, you could drive them insane.

Caring for your sex toy with the Roto-Bator is something you have to be a bit careful with. The silicone pieces can do whatever you need, but the Roto-Bator doesn’t appear to be waterproof, so make sure not to dunk it or get running water on it. You should use a damp washcloth to wipe down the surface. For storage, it works great in the box – it definitely keeps the toy safe and looking pretty. Water-based lubricant should only be used with this since it is made from silicone.

The Roto-Bator just wasn’t for us. The boyfriend has slowly accepted using some masturbators, but I think this one was just too awkward of an experience for him to fully enjoy. I’m sure it will provide a good teasing sensation for those who are courageous enough to use it, but the boyfriend found the sound, sensation, and the idea of this just too off-putting to really enjoy it – despite multiple attempts until he began to fear it in our sex life. So I’ve given up. However, if you are just the person to give this a try, TabuToys carries male masturbators.
