Tulip Vibrator Review

Tulip Vibrator
The packaging for the Tulip

The Tulip Vibrator is a six inch vibrator made from velvet cote plastic which gives it a very soft and gentle feel. The vibe itself is very slender with about 3/4 diameter and has a bulb on the end of the vibrator. The Tulip Vibe is manufactured by California Exotics, and for some reason, has an odd waterproof seal around the upper half that confuses me. It’s almost like the company made the Tulip in two pieces then glued them together with a waterproof seal to make sure the sex toy would be waterproof. It’s odd like that. It’s definitely noticable when you look at the Tulip, but I didn’t notice it actually during use.

The Tulip comes packaged pretty basically – like most CalExotics toys. It comes in a plastic box that is molded to fit around the vibrator. It’s nothing special, but it doesn’t take up much packaging, so it’s more enviornmentally safe than other sex toys.

The body of the Tulip is actually really soft – believe it or not. It’s made from a plastic called velvet cote which is just a really, really soft plastic. I’ve owned vibrators in this type of material before, and it always amazes me how soft the plastic is. However, it’s still firm and it’s still a plastic despite how smooth it is. It does have some seams running the body of the vibrator, but during use, you can’t feel them. As stated before, the oddest part of the seams was the one that runs around the bulb of the vibrator that makes it seem like the vibe came in two different pieces.

The vibrations of the Tulip are relatively normal. There’s nothing extremely powerful about them, but they are average of what you’d expect to find out of most vibrators. At the bottom of the base of the vibe is a little button that controls the vibrations of the toy. It’s just a push button, and it scrolls through the seven different levels which includes three steady patterns and four irregular patterns. The patterns of the vibrations are focused in the bulb at the tip of the vibrator, but carry nicely throughout the rest of the vibe as well. The vibrations are pretty quiet too. They’d be heard if you both were in the same room, but it’d be hard to hear these outside of a closed door – especially with a blanket over it or with music on.

The body of the Tulip. Notice the odd seperation of plastic near the bulb.

So does the bulb do much? Not really, honestly. It’s just a bulb, and because the plastic is so rigid, it’s pretty darned hard to use this as a g-spot toy without some pain involved. I’d much more recommend it just as a clitoral toy which really makes the bulb pretty useless in theory. Because it’s such a hard plastic, it’s just uncomfortable for insertion, so I’m not sure what the bulb was made for. It does work as a clitoral toy though. It works just as well as any other basic vibrators that I’ve used. I’d say that this definitely has all of the features that a vibrator needs to be a vibe, but I wouldn’t call this special by any means. It’s still just a basic vibrator that provides pleasure at a low price. However, it’s very soft, and it does appear to be splashproof although when I tried dunking it underwater, some of the water got into the battery compartment, so I wouldn’t consider this waterproof – at least not the one I received.

Because the Tulip is made from plastic, it’s compatible with both water-based and silicone-based lubricants. To clean it, just use warm water and antibacterial soap. For storage, I’m just going to keep it in a plastic baggie in my Tunti case it doesn’t get harmed.

In conclusion, it is a good vibrator, but it’s nothing special. It seemed to work okay, it’s pretty darned quiet, and does what it advertises (except being waterproof). It is mostly to be used for external stimulation because of the hard plastic but could be inserted if you were being careful about it.  Thanks to California Exotics for providing the Tulip Vibrator for review.
