“The Sex Instruction Manual” is a small book made to cover all of the basics about sex education. It’s actually really hilarious – it’s mostly written in a “nerd format” intended to make people laugh while reading it. The book has a soft cover with full-color inner pages. There are seven chapters contained within the 208 pages of this book. The book is average-sized and since the main colors are pink and black, it might stand out sitting on your bookshelf. The front of the book shows a male/female illustration in their underwear standing together with arrows pointing to different parts of their body. The backside of the book shows their backside.
I really enjoy the color scheme that the authors picked for this book. It’s basically a white/pink/black theme for the entire book. The pages themselves are white with the pink/black text on them. It’s hot pink too. It actually looks really sexy and fun instead of seeming like a boring sex-ed book. The character drawings themselves are all mostly set in the pink/black color scheme as well which looks fun and playful.
This book is easily the most hilarious and fun-loving sexual education book I’ve ever read. I was attracted by the colorful cover, and I’m happy I was attracted too. The entire book uses “nerd lingo” for all of the different explanations. For example, the penis is the “Orgasm Activation Unit” while the breasts are “Foreplay Apparatus”. Fingers are “Tactile Sensors”. The feet are “Fetish Activation Units”. While this sounds like it might be annoying after awhile, the author struck a good balance between using the “nerdy” words and using the real words. I was never left being confused about what was being discussed. I also was never annoyed by the author using the words – in fact, it ended up making me smile quite a few times while reading the book. It’s a nice addition that sets it apart from other comprehensive sexual education books.
This book is pretty comprehensive. However, to cover everything sexual in 200 pages, it’d be insane. Instead, it does give the basics about anything you’d honestly want to know about sexually – it doesn’t go into
detail, so if you wanted to know more on something like, say strap-on sex, you’d actually have to go get another book, but it gets you interested in the topic itself. The book itself is pretty basic in information but it does cover the bases. For example, anal sex only has four pages devoted to it while each type of sex toy only gets two or three paragraphs.
The illustrations in this book are some of the best part of it. The illustrations are of amusing things. For example, in the fetish chapter, there’s a little illustration of a hotel building with lots of little stick figures engaging in different sexual fetishes. In the anatomy chapter, there’s pictures of little penis’s and vaginas with different pubic hair designs. In the Foreplay chapter, here’s a picture of a bedroom with different arrows pointing to different aspects of the bedroom you should consider before inviting someone in for sensual play.
The book covers: Preparing your home and body for sex, Foreplay including kissing and breast fondling, oral and manual sex techniques for both males and females (including diagrams and sex positions you can do with each one), intercourse, how to prepare your bedroom for sex including protection (which has a diagrams on how to “install” male and female condoms), a vast amount of different sex positions as diagramed by stick people, information about orgasms, a brief overview of different fetishes, a brief overview of different sexual aids (toys), and a brief overview of sexual disorders and STIs.
Id highly recommend “The Sex Instruction Manual” – and I mean highly. It has comprehensive information, but even if you’ve read it before, this book has enough illustrations and humor to make the information you already know not seem boring at all. After all, any book that starts with “You are about to have sex. Would you like help?” then makes fun of the Microsoft Paperclip really deserves your attention.
