“The Complete Photo Guide to Great Sex“, published by Quiver Press and sold by WeLoveToys, is a full-color, full-photo guide about how to have great sex. Written by the general “Editors at Quiver” with no particular author, this full-color, soft-cover book includes 175 pages. This book has nudity, but it’s softcore, and you’ll see the models acting out sex positions without any particular penetration. You’ll see butts and breasts, though, so if that offends you, you should keep that in mind.
This is not a book you want to read in public. For one, it’s pretty large in length and size which will make it difficult to carry, and for second, there’s a lot of nudity and full-color sex pictures in this book. It doesn’t make it a bad book, but it does make it a book that isn’t suitable for public reading at all.
The book has a pretty simple table of contents. These are the chapters in the order in which they appear: Supine Sex, Standing Positions, Woman on Top, Kama Sutra Positions, The Perfumed Garden, Acrobatic Positions, The 360-Degree Turn, Oral Sex, Anal Sex, Toys and Kink. Each chapter is clearly marked and included in the table of contents, so you can pick and choose what areas you want to read about.
I must admit to not being too impressed by this book. When it’s called “The Complete Photo Guide to Great Sex”, I assume it means that things and techniques will be explained in step-by-step photos. That is not the case. What it really means is that the book will have ideas or suggestions, and those suggestions and ideas will be accompanied by large, suggestively pornographic pictures. These pictures may turn you on or give you naughty ideas of your own, and they’re a nice addition, but the idea of having step-by-step pictures and ideas isn’t something that you should expect from this book.
Instead, expect a book that will give you a lot of ideas and thoughts about sex and things you can do in the bedroom. This book will NOT particularly help you get better at sex – there’s not enough words nor explanations to do that. Instead, it’s going to give you ideas, mostly, about various sex positions you can try. In fact, really, almost all of the book is about sex positions. But the book does a good job of showing attractive pictures to give you inspirations about the things you may want to try in the bedroom.
I was actually a bit surprised that the book didn’t include more pictures for some things. For example, some of these sex positions look very, very difficult to do – especially to get into in the first place. There’s a “multiple position” type of step-by-step guide for the “360-degree turn” position (which is turned into an entire chapter), but aside from that, each sex position is only shown with the name, a small blurb about why you might enjoy it (usually a sentence or two), and a large, full-color picture that shows the couple engaging in that position.
The pictures are actually pretty nice, though. In fact, this is probably one of the best selling points of this book. All of the pictures are well-lit, and all of them look sexy. All of the pictures use conventionally-attractive, thin, model-like people, and I think some of these people may be adult stars (they look familiar, but I could be wrong). The pictures are softcore-type photos, and they will probably be arousing to most. Again, there’s nothing explicit shown. The pictures really mostly look like the type of “promotional” pictures that an adult film company would use to promote their DVDs, so again, well-lit, with conventionally-attractive models, and arousing-looking positions.
The actual variety between positions and their difficulty will vary. Some of the positions shown are extremely difficult and I doubt that most couples would be able to do them. However, some of the positions near the front of the book would be perfect for any couple. A lot of the “front of book” positions are just variations and change of feet/angle for various standard sex positions, so these are definitely positions that most people could do without any issue. So no matter your skill level, you should easily be able to find sex positions in this book that would be achievable for you.
Along with that, there are some “not-sex-position” sections near the end, but they still feel exactly like the sex position sections. Each one of the items just includes a large picture showing the couple doing the thing with like, two sentences, that explains the picture. For example, in the “strap-on sex” one, it shows a woman standing next to a nude man wearing a strap-on harness with a dildo. The description says that some couples enjoy strap-on sex. It’s, again, not very comprehensive or too helpful, but if you hadn’t considered strap-on sex, this might give you the suggestive push you needed.
Overall, if you want a sexy picture book that’s going to arouse you and give you ideas about things to try in the bedroom, “The Complete Photo Guide to Great Sex” could be a fantastic book. However, don’t expect a lot of step-by-step illustrations or explanations about how to be a better lover.
