The Art of Pole Volume 1 is a how-to for pole dancing. There are five separate The Art of Pole volumes. Each different volume gets more difficult in intensity, and as you can imagine, Volume 1 is the easiest. The pole dancing is all done by Jamilla Deville, and the DVD is divided into Lesson One, Lesson Two, and Special Features.

As a sidenote, in order to perform any of the pole dancing moves in this DVD, you do have to have a stationary pole with you. This has to be a stationary pole that can take weight on it – if it can’t take weight, you are going to have a serious problem when you go tumbling to the ground. Make sure your pole is installed and you have tons of room around your dancing pole if you want to attempt any of this.

Showing one of the floor moves (how to walk sexy)

Lesson One is all about the basic moves. As long as you are in relatively good shape, all of the moves in this lesson can be done. The first half of this lesson just shows you sexy ways to walk around the pole, but the second half of the lesson will require you to have the strength to hold your body up with your arms. Lesson One runs 26 minutes – first Jamilla shows you the move completely then shows you how to perform it.

Showing one of the aerial moves

Lesson 2 is a lot more advanced moves. It does require some stronger body strength than the Lesson 1, but if you can hold all of your bodyweight in your arms, you will likely be okay working on some of these moves. Jamilla explains all of the moves step-by-step to make it really easy. Most of the moves in Lesson 2 require your weight to be completely off of the ground and on the pole for easy aerial moves. This section is 29 minutes long.

The Art of Pole Volume 1
Showing the Mistress routine

The Special Features include warm-ups to get you ready for attempting either lesson, a lesson in body rolls to add some sexy additions to some of your pole moves, pole conditioning moves which will help you build strength to do some of the harder moves on the DVD, cool downs which are basically a light exercise routine to wind your body down from exercise, and lastly performance clips from a Soda Pop routine and Mistress routine. Both routines are just a minute long and basically will “psych” you up to try your own routines. The Soda Pop one seems like it’s only made from the movies in the lessons while the Mistress one is definitely more advanced.

The Art of Pole is a fun DVD that can be a fun way to explore the enjoyment of pole fitness. Jamilla makes the moves very easy to understand, but it can get a little boring at times (as any instruction video could.) Jamilla makes easy moves look extremely sexy, and aside from making a sexy dance routine, this DVD easily structures as a workout DVD as well which is great. I sincerely suggest you check this out if you want to learn some pole dancing since this is the best DVD for teaching it that I’ve watched.
