“The Art of Lap Dancing” Book Review

The Art of Lap Dancing
The front cover

“The Art of Lap Dancing” is a colored book written by Peekaboo Lap Dancing and sold by SexToy.com. The book is softcover and has full-color pages with 100 pages divided into five different routines and some help pages. The book is written by the writing staff at Peekaboo, and this five by five inch book is easy to read and keep open to a page. The book’s selling point is that it will give you a great workout and make you feel sexy.

This book basically walks you through different lap dance routines. It gives five different routines. Each routine has a different “feel” to it. One is for a kinky feel, another is for a cheerleader, another is for a classy lady, another is for a sweet girl, and the last is for a party girl. Each girl gets 16 pages for her routine. This equals eight different moves per routine, and depending on the girl, she’ll have an introductory move (or two) and a “leaving the room” move (or two). Each move, as you could guess from the math, has a two-page spread with three seperate pictures and captions showing how to do the move.

This was one of my bigger complaints. When you think about it, eight different moves per routine is just not enough to really make a full dance routine out of something. We tried out all of the different routines, and following straight in order, it only equalled about 3 minutes, tops, of things to do, and that’s if you took it slowly. You might be able to get one full song out of one girl’s routine, but if you want to make it through a couple songs, you’d have to sprinkle in other moves or make sure to repeat some moves. In some routines, like the “Party Girl”‘s routine, this is impossible because the party girl pours champagne on herself half-way through the routine, and it’s not like you can backtrack from that.

The boyfriend made a complaint about how some of the items aren’t fluid. For example, the last move will leave you laying sexily on the floor while the next in line has you up in your boyfriend’s lap. I’m sure most people could figure out a sexy way to make it from point A to point B, but if that’s the point of the book, I feel like they could have done a better job of flushing out the sexy ways to get from one move to another. For example, how do you get from being on your back with champagne running down your stomach to being on top of your man’s lap where he’s supposed to lick off the champagne? It’s just smaller things like that that can cause this book to be less useful than it could if it had flushed out some of the details.

Instead of using real photographs, this book uses illustrations of women. All of the women are thin, white, tall, and have large breasts, so it’s not exactly inclusive of multiple body types. However, the illustrations do show you, in three-steps, how to do each move. Sometimes, there are little green arrows that show you how an individual body part is supposed to move. Each move is only shown in three steps. For some moves, this is just right, but for other moves, you are left relying a bit more on the text included at the bottom of each picture to figure out what you should be doing. As always, video would lend itself best to learning how to do these moves, but the book still do make it easy to learn.

However, overall, the book is helpful. You will need to practice the moves before springing them on your partner, but the routines are easy enough to only require a a few run throughs before you can perform them from memory. Some of the moves are a bit silly, but for the most part, this book is going to help you do some pretty sexy lapdances without feeling silly. You might have to piece together a couple of the moves, but if you need inspiration to get started with the lap dances alltogether, this book does put together quite a few different moves you can act out.

The “help” pages are basic, but they are there. It talks about how to dance, why lap dancing is for you, fashion and style choices, how lap dancing will help you get in shape, and how to prepare the room beforehand to have the best sexual experience. All of these help pages are only about a page long, but they cover all of the basics without going into much detail. I like the fact that the help pages stress that lap dancing is a good idea no matter your height or weight, but I also was a bit disappointed because none of their little illustrated girls looked any different from one another. They all were very thin, tall, and had large breasts. I feel like, to push equality, the book should have made an attempt to include different body types and different skin colors at least.

Overall, while it’s not the best book out there, it’s still a quality book that’s going to give you inspiration for different lap dance moves. The illustrations are pretty clear, and the moves it presents are pretty sexy. At the same time, there are some holes in some of the routines, and the routines will require some tweaking to use for longer songs. Thanks to http://www.sextoy.com for sending me this adult book for my The Art of Lap Dancing review.
