I’ve tried strap-on sets before, and although I’m still quite fond of my Joque Harness, this Sex in the Shower set seemed really neat. When this sex toy store offered to let me try it out for review, I happily accepted. I think we might end up collecting all of the Sex in the Shower series.
The Sex in the Shower Beginner’s Strap-On Dildo Set is a nice set from Sportsheets that includes a waterproof harness and a dildo. It reminds me of the Bend Over Beginner kit honestly. The harness is made from nylon straps and neoprene material in the front portion (making up the purple part), so it’s all completely waterproof. The dildo is a almost-five inch rubber dildo with a diameter of less than an inch, so it’s also waterproof. My included dildo is more purple than the included picture on their website, but it still looks virtually the same.
The packaging it comes in is really basic. It’s just a cardboard box with your harness left out loose, and your dildo in a plastic baggie. The front of the box shows a woman wearing the harness, nude, covering her breasts with her hands, in front of a male in the shower. This packaging is definitely not discreet. I’ll explore the two parts individually then talk about how well they work together.
The harness is a four-piece adjustable harness. This means that this is a jock-strap style harness. The straps go once around your waist and then two other loops will go around your legs and come up around your butt. This makes it possible for the wearer to experience penetration while wearing the harness. The nylon straps adjust just by pulling or loosening the buckle that they are on. It’s possible to adjust both sides of the waist strap and adjust each different leg strap for comfort. The hip strap goes up to sixty inches and the leg straps go up to around 36 inches. They also tighten down really nicely to fit even a size 2. I’d say sixty inches usually equals a size 22/24, so if you are underneath that, you most likely will fit this. It’s always worth it to double-check your measurements.
The neoprene in the front of the harness is actually really comfortable. It makes up that pretty purple piece on the pictures. It also provides a little bit of padding. I know, if he’s on top riding the harness, it can cut into my skin really badly, and the padding on this actually ends up helping reduce that a bit. It’s not a lot, but it’s helpful.
To get into the harness, you step into the waist piece, then step into the two different leg pieces with the right legs. If you want to make it easy, lay it out on the floor so it will be ready to go when you pull it. From there, you adjust each piece to make it perfectly comfortable. Because of the style of the harness, it’s possible to put the dildo in while you’re wearing the harness, but it works easier to put it in beforehand. One of the bigger complains I had with this kit is the straps that hang down on the sides after you fix it to your size; it’s the extra nylon that you didn’t need so it hangs down. To fix it, you could easily tuck the straps into the harness itself, but leaving them dangling just isn’t that pretty to me.
The O-ring that is included in the harness isn’t interchangable, but it is pretty large. It has a little over an inch of diameter, but it will stretch if need be. It easily fits the dildo that is included in the set, but it may not find some of the size-queen dildos that exist out there. It does, however, keep the dildo nice and firmly up against your body as long as you have the straps tightened fully. Honestly, although the nylon straps dig in just a little bit, it’s comfortable for the most part. It doesn’t slip down when used in the shower or out of it, and it honestly appears to have been well-made with thought put into the design. The buckles don’t press into the skin, and it’s actually amazingly easy to tighten once you have it on. If in doubt, leave it extra loose and tighten it from there since it’s much easier than loosening it.
The dildo is pretty freakin’ adorable. This is probably the smallest dildo that I honestly own, and this really is the perfect size for most beginner/intermediate anal play. When I first took it out of the package, I wondered why they hadn’t made it silicone, but after thinking about it, it made sense. They recommend silicone lubricant for shower play, so using silicone lubricant on a silicone toy would have been a bad idea. For that reason, I’m actually pretty content that this was made from rubber. It does have a rubber scent to it, but it’s not noticable unless you stick your nose right up against the dildo. (Which I totally did when I first received it since rubber smells amazing.)
The base of the dildo is downright huge, but that’s a good thing. No worries about losing this up anyone’s butt. It fits comfortably up against your skin when wearing a harness, and Sportsheets engraved their company into the base of this dildo. It is made from rubber, and therefore, extremely flexible, but it is firm enough to easily be able to insert without any sort of problem. It’s flexible enough, though, to be comfortable during use while still being firm enough to be easy to insert whether with the harness or for use by yourself.
The dildo does have an interesting little pattern on it too. It’s easy to see on the picture on the product page, but it has little (and I mean little) indents up the body of the dildo about every inch. They look pretty neat, but we haven’t found any sort of feel from the texture. It’s impossible to notice during use. However, it’s definitely possible to notice the curve during use – especially anally. It does along for the dildo to “drag” along your insides when inserted which, although it sounds weird, is actually pretty pleasurable during use. Vaginally, it doesn’t do anything for the g-spot, but the curve does provide a nice feeling during use.
What makes this dildo really nice is the small diameter. This is a diameter that most beginners could easily use. It’s only slightly larger than a finger. And for those that advanced beyond this size, this works as a pleasurable warm-up toy that would allow you to use some of the larger toys in your collection. Overall, this is a neat dildo that isn’t made from dangerous materials like jelly while still be usable at it’s cute and tiny size.
So how do they work together? Amazingly. The dildo works great with silicone lubricant, so this can be used in or out of the shower. The dildo fits perfectly into the o-ring on the harness, and the base of the dildo presses comfortable against the pubic area. The dildo nor the harness have any place for a vibrating bullet though, so no vibration for the wearer. When you upgrade dildos, however, you can find one with a bullet in the base and that will take care of that problem. The colors match, and it’s really a cute set. The only fault I can find is with the size of the dildo itself depending on the size of the woman wearing the harness. (I wouldn’t recommend this for males wanting a harness since it would push right on your own package.) If the woman is a plus-size woman, she usually will need a longer dildo for comfortable penetration since it can be hard to penetrate with her body pushing against his. If you are a woman who would have that problem, you could still use the set, but I wouldn’t recommend using the dildo with the harness itself (use it handheld instead.) You could always upgrade to a new dildo to fit in your comfortable harness. (A nice test to see if this would be a problem is to flatten out your hand, and put it to your crotch with the fingers facing straight out, like a hand-penis. If you think you’d have problems inserting this comfortable because of your size, it might be a problem.
Both pieces are compatible with water-based or silicone-based lubricant. If you’ll be using this in the shower, I recommend silicone based since water-based washes off when near water. To wash the harness, I’d honestly say it was machine-washable as long as you put it into a lingerie bag to keep the straps from getting everywhere. The dildo just needs warm water and some antibacterial soap to clean it down. It’s porous, so it’s not sharable unless you cover it with a condom. I honestly recommend covering it with a condom for easy clean-up anyway.
For storage, I highly recommend keeping the dildo in some sort of a plastic bag. It’s a huge dust and lint magnet. Even placing it on my bedside table got it covered in things. Be careful since, because of the slightly indented bottom and the material, this strap-on dildo likes to suction cup itself to things. It’s actually slightly hilarious sometimes.
Overall, I’m impressed. The harness was amazingly comfortable, and the dildo appears high-quality, so I expect we’ll have this for a long time. The dildo is comfortable for anal use, and both pieces hold up nicely to water play which is amazing. It’s a neat set for in and out of the shower.
