The Robyn da Hood costume is a cute costume available from a size Small all the way up to a size 4X. It’s manufactured by DreamGirl. This could be used as a bedroom costume or an outdoor costume. This does cover past my butt (easily) to make this okay to wear out in public. With a forest-green dress made of polyester and spandex and no underwire, the dress can be worn on its own. The outfit purchase includes the green dress, the waist cincher, the hat, the two arm gauntlets, and the bag all packaged inside a costume storage bag.
To give you an idea of my measurements, I tend to wear a 22/24 in pants and a 18/20 in shirts. So, yeah, I’m pretty hip-centric. I’m about 5′ 6″ in height, and from experience with DreamGirl, this is going to fit you more like a shirt if you’re 5’10” or above. I just measured myself for another dress I’m ordering today, and in inches, I’m a 56 hips, 45 bust (with bra as shown in picture), and 42 waist. So, that’s about all the measurements I can give you without basically poofing myself into your living room. All the pictures of the outfit are shown WITHOUT shapewear to give you an idea of the fit, so if you see bulges/etc., it could be fixed with shapewear.
Mind you, writing and wearing this costume has been a HOOT. Mostly because my partner thinks the hat looks like a “pimp costume” hat, so he keeps calling me a pimp. And the fact that I’m carrying a money bag probably doesn’t help on that. However, that brings up a good point; you could easily switch out the accessories and make this a “different” costume. Just by pulling out the hat and the bag and adding in some more floral touches, you could pretty easily make this into an elf costume. My partner and I said that it might work as a Steampunk costume with some pretty large touches (and more brown accessories) too. You could probably go the Leprechaun route, too. I also took and included pictures of me ONLY wearing the waist cincher and the dress to show how it would work as a everyday dress. My partner agrees it’s a bit “showy” for regular clothing, but it’d work – especially if you look good in green. (I don’t know if I’ve ever worn green clothing in my lifetime.)
How was the fit? Well, it’s a bit tight around my hips, obviously, but that’s to be expected with most clothing I get. It’s all-around pretty snug, though, so I’d say that you probably don’t want to get this one if you’re larger than a size 24. My bra is about equivilent to a size C, and while it would fit a D okay, if you’re a DD or larger, it might start stretching the fabric a bit more than it’s meant for. Which, on the bright side, you’ll get some awesome cleavage in this outfit from the deep V-neck which I don’t have. Comfort-wise, though, this is extremely comfortable, and I could hang around in this all day. Even with the waist cincher on. Very, VERY comfy.
And I LOVE it! I’m surprisingly fond of it! I love how it fits me. The ruffles add a bit more “volume” to my bust, the cincher shows off my smaller waist, and the ruffles help hide the fact that the dress is pretty tight and would show imperfections if the ruffles weren’t there. It’s a bit short, but I could easily pair it with leggings, and the little cap sleeves are kinda cute but not annoying short. I have no complaints – not even one – about how the outfit fits.
As for the dress itself, I’ll be honest: i really just wanted to wear the dress without the accessories as an outfit. It looked cute. The real dress does have the bust ruffles as shown in the picture, but something you really can’t see from the picture is the fact that the entire front of the dress (from bust to the ruffles) actually is button-up by snap buttons. It makes it easy to get into, but without a corset or waist cincher on the middle, it honestly looks a bit silly as a dress. Along with that, while the picture shows four “full” ruffles, my dress only seemed to have three “full” ruffles. The top one did have a bit of “extra” fabric, but the fabric wasn’t as long and as loose as the other three, so it didn’t ruffle. Which made me a bit sad, but it still looked okay.
As you can tell, this outfit comes with many accessories. I’m going to go through and critique each one for you as I know some people purchase in hopes of using one of the accessories again and again (like I did for the waist cincher on this one).
So, the waist cincher: I read a review that said that the cincher didn’t “size” with the outfit. I actually had no problems with it. You can see in the back that I had to let out the lace, but it went on okay without any issues. It has a hook-and-eye fastener as well as a lace-up fastener. I personally preferred the lace-up fastener on the backside with the hook-and-eye in front, but I think it’s personal preference. If you find that the lacing ends up far apart like mine did, it looks better on the backside. The waist cincher is plastic-boned, and while it doesn’t seem like the highest-quality waist cincher, it does seem like it will at least hold up okay to moderate use as long as you’re not stretching it too far. The material is slightly stretchy too, and keep in mind that the cincher IS fastened with actual ribbon. Like, gift-type ribbon, so it may not hold up too well if put under stress. (I’d say that my size was putting it under “stress”, and I wouldn’t expect it to last a long, long time if I wore it a long time with it cinched that tightly. Also, keep in mind that, if you’re too big for the waist cincher or pull it TOO tight, the material IS stretchy, so it will show off any bulges or tummy rolls from its creasing.
Next up is the hat. I hate this hat. Omg, I hate this hat. The hat in itself isn’t really so “awful”, but it doesn’t fit my head at all. It doesn’t fit my partner’s head, either. It seems like the hat is fully round in shape while most heads I know of have a oval-like shape. If you look closely in my pictures, you can see that the hat is definitely not fully on my head. If I moved, it’d fly off. It looks cute in the outfit, though. The feather in the hat is removable as well. Something else is that the felt-like material, straight out of the packaging, is already pecked clean in spots. It’s not noticeable from far away (at all), but there are small spots, when you look closely, that show that the green felt on the hat is missing. I wouldn’t even mind the hat so much if it fit. But it doesn’t. And I’m not sure if it will fit most people.
The wristlets: These are kinda cute and kinda comfy. It’s kinda hard to get them on yourself, so it helps if you have someone else to help you get them on. They are really comfortable and not scratchy, and I forgot I had them on, to be honest. I slipped them on without untying the laces on them, but the laces ARE adjustable, so if you have very large forearms, you could adjust these easily. The quality on these seems pretty good, and they should last just fine.
The bag: I wasn’t too fond of the bag, either. The bag isn’t awful quality, and it’d be okay with holding your wallet and other items as a “purse”. The “dollar sign” on it just bugged me, though, and I didn’t know if that really improved the design for me. Along with that, while it’s a drawstring bag, the drawstring function is absolutely awful, and it never draws shut like it’s supposed to unless you put lots of effort in. Luckily, as long as you hold it upright, nothing will fall out when it’s unstrung, but I would have preferred if it could close up.
I personally think this would be a good costume for you if you have a smaller waist than bust/hips and want to emphasize that. The waist cincher does a good job of emphasizing that smaller waist, and with the addition of the ruffles on the hips, it makes you look more hourglass-y. For smaller breasts, though, the deep V-neck will show off the lack of cleavage, but personally, even without cleavage, I felt like the waist cincher took enough of the “attention” of the outfit, so the lack of cleavage wasn’t a big deal.
Another complaint that other people had was that it shows every bulge and bump. I really didn’t have too much of an issue. The waist cincher, if you’re wearing it, pretty much hides all of the midsection ones unless the waist cincher is laced too tightly. The ruffles at the base of the skirt will disguise any cellulite on the thighs and butt, and there usually isn’t too much bumpy going along the breast area (though the waist cincher could create bumps above and below it). The most exposed areas with this outfit would definitely be the arms and legs, though, and since the dress is so short, if you have cellulite or bumps around the mid-to-lower thigh, it will show that.
I haven’t had to deal with cleaning this, but the fabric of the dress is just like my other clothing, so it can easily go in the washing machine. The hat cannot be washed, and I wouldn’t try to machine-wash the waist cincher either. The wristlets and the bag could probably be hand-washed if needed.
I definitely would recommend this. It’s possibly one of the more flattering pieces of costumes/lingerie that I’ve worn. The waist cincher helps bring the outfit together amazingly, but if you have a higher-quality cincher or underbust, that could also work fantastically with this outfit. The hat and bag are on the low-quality side, but they’ll last for a night, and you can reuse the other pieces later if you want. I’m impressed with this outfit, and I really, really like it. I’d re-buy it again in a heartbeat.
