UPDATE AUGUST 2024: This wood dildo is no longer in production; it looks like Nobessence has closed up shop. This sex toy review remains as a reference. While you’re here, why not check out some additional educational info – like online submissive tasks, beginner pegging positions, saran wrap bondage, and enema 101 info.
The Delve Wand, made by NobEssence, is a wooden dildo available in multiple wood colors. About nine inches long, the Delve has a diameter of over an inch and a half of unforgiving wood on one of its ends. Covered multiple times by the Lubrocity coating, the Delve is completely silky smooth and ready for use straight out of the box (after a quick washing!).
The packaging for the Delve dildo is pretty fancy. It comes in a two-part box, and one of the parts of the box slides open. Inside this box, there’s the dildo lying inside. There’s little elastic straps to keep the Delve strapped inside, but it’s padded and protects the dildo as well. The box is a bit large for storage compared to the size of the dildo, but it can be used for storage. Wherever you do choose to store it, just make sure it will keep the toy safe and away from scratches.
The design for this NobEssence wooden dildo is pretty basic. It’s a straight dildo with a couple curves throughout the shaft. The dildo is very light-weight, because it’s wood, so while it feels a bit like glass during use, the light-weight aspect makes a huge difference. Covered with NobEssence’s Lubrocity coat, the Delve is very slick, and it slides in and out with minimal (if any!) lubricant. You don’t have to use lubricant if you’re warmed up, and the NobEssence doesn’t really absorb any lubricant either. Make sure to remember that the Delve is made from wood, and as such, is completely rigid, though. It does not have any bend to it, so the Delve will probably not work for the g-spot for most people.
Everyone I speak to about wooden sex toys is always concerned about splinters. That’s something you do NOT have to be concerned about with a high-quality wooden dildo like the Delve. All of NobEssence’s wooden dildos are covered with multiple coatings of their Lubrocity coating. This coating means that the dildo is, really, even slicker than most of the wooden surfaces in my home. You can slightly feel and see the wood’s natural texture, but the entire feel of the dildo is very, very slick, and there’s no chance of splinters. Make sure to inspect your toy for any damage before any use, but as long as it remains as it did from the store, the Delve is fully safe to use with no concerns.
For regular use, this NobEssence wood dildo is okay. You have to remember that it’s a fully straight dildo, so it’s probably not going to hit the g-spot. With it’s firm rigidity and long length, you do also have to caution overzealous partners to hold back because the pointy edges of the NobEssence definitely can hurt if poked uncomfortably in a wrong spot.
With both of those things considered, though, the NobEssence Delve goes in smoothly and feels pleasurable. The curves along the shaft keep the sensation interesting, and because of how the dildo is designed, you can easily choose to tackle the “larger” end first or tackle the “smaller” end first. This can make a difference in sensation. I personally prefer the smaller end, but either end is a do-able size. The larger size takes more warm-up, though, and you do have to remember that it’s rigid, so if you’re worried you may not be able to take the larger end, again, remember that the material has no give to it.
To clean this luxury dildo, you’ll want to use warm water and non-abrasive soap. It can be bleached with a water/bleach solution for sterilization as it is non-porous. For storage, make sure to keep it away from any sharp edges or harsh climates/chemicals as that could harm the sex toy. I recommend some sort of storage bag. It’s compatible with water-based and silicone-based lubricants, but like most toys, make sure to avoid oil-based lubricants.
Overall, the NobEssence Delve is an interesting dildo. I wouldn’t say that it really “stands out” in any manner, but it’s double-ended design partnered with slick, silky wood make it an okay choice. It feels good when used, and it looks absolutely luxurious when grasped. It’s light-weight, slides in and out perfectly, and just feels good!
