UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2020: The Liberator Mardi Mask is no longer in production. Liberator sells some other unique sensual masks, but this mask is no longer in production.
The Liberator Mardi Mask is a sexy mask that includes a sexy, gray leather rose, easy-to-tie-up leather straps, and small strands of quality string draping off a side. It also includes a small crystal that sits in the center of the leather rose. The leather mask is long enough and includes long enough leather straps that this should fit any variety of face shape or thickness.
The Mardi Mask doesn’t come in any sort of particular packaging. It does come in a plain, unmarked brown box which was completely discreet. Inside the box is the mask and the mask’s case in a plain plastic bag. The mask’s case is a Liberator zipper bag. The zipper bag is easily large enough for your mask and any other kinky goodies you want to keep in it. (Smaller floggers, sexy clothes, etc.) The bag’s inside is an easy-to-wipe-down nylon surface while the outside of the bag is a sensual velvet. There are a couple of loose threads on the bag, but the bag zips up with no problem and it will protect your mask. I’m a bit concerned about having this laying in a crumpled ball for long periods of time (as I wonder what it would do to the leather), but if this is for short-term storage, there should be no problem about keeping it in the bag.
I know there can’t be too much to say about a leather mask, but I’m going to do my best to critique this sexy mask to the best of my ability. I actually thought the model on the Liberator site looked really sexy wearing the mask, so I figured it was a good choice for my next product to review. It hasn’t grown on me too much, but I also don’t think it’s a horrible choice either.
The quality of the Mardi Mask is actually pretty good. The leather straps are very soft and very supple, and they feel sensual on the skin. The actual mask itself is made up of two (or more?) layers of leather, and the layers are actually really plushy and slightly squishy which makes them really comfortable and flexible on the face. The threads that sew the mask together are really nicely done, and there are no loose threads just hanging around. The edges of the mask weren’t “sanded” down completely evenly, but this is not something you can even notice unless you are right up against the mask. You won’t notice when someone is wearing it. The threads that hang down are sewn firmly onto the mask, and the leather rose is too. I’ve tried to pick at the crystal, but the crystal doesn’t seem to come off either, so it looks like the entire mask was put together with quality in mind.
Another aspect is the eye holes. I’m not sure how I feel about these. The eye holes are a bit too small. They extend perfectly on the sides of my eyes, but on the middle, near my nose, the cut-out doesn’t go far enough. This ends up getting in the way of the corner of my vision which keeps my eyes from working quite as well. You know how, no matter what you look at, both your eyes will look at the same spot? The same holds true for the Mardi Mask except, with this mask, it can be headache-inducing because the inner leather part near your eyes doesn’t give you enough eye movement room, so you end up with a bit of split vision since part of your normal viewing pattern is obstructed. It’s okay short-term, but if you want to wear this for awhile, it can cause a bad headache. However, at the same time, I can’t expect the manufacturers to work magic. Everyone has a differently-shaped face, and it turns out that this mask just didn’t happen to fit my face. Maybe if you have a smaller nose than I do, you’d have a lot better luck with this mask; my nose might be the problem.
Because the leather doesn’t really stretch, the mask, with longer wear, does end up moving itself up the nose and farther up the forehead. This can be a bit annoying if you are wearing the mask for awhile, but for the most part, it’s easy to adjust and pull it back down where you want it to be. All masks end up riding up with long-term wear, and this one is no different. It’s just something worth mentioning. If you have a smaller nose, this may not be something that you even notice.
To tie the mask, there are two leather straps on either side of the mask. The leather is soft and supple, and it reminds me of the leather of high-quality floggers. The leather strands tie really nicely, and surprisingly, the leather doesn’t end up feeling weak either. It holds the mask right in place, and the leather doesn’t end up loosening either, so once you tie the mask in place, it stays there for awhile. Even after getting sweaty, we didn’t have any problems with the mask slipping off – even if it was done with a basic tie. You could tie a knot as well, but because this is soft leather, I’d be a bit worried about being able to untie that, so I stuck with a little bow.
I’m not sure how I feel about how this looks on my own face. I thought it was pretty sexy on the model, but I feel like it’s a bit foolish on my own face. The boyfriend laughed at me when he saw it. It does a great job of “concealing” my identity with a mask, but I’m not sure if it’s really all that sexy on my own face. I like it, but if the boyfriend doesn’t like it, and says that, with my square/circle face, the black strands make my face look shorter than it already was. He says he thinks this will flatter oval, long-face shapes a lot more.
Cleaning it one area where I was a bit concerned. Most mask are made of something washable, but with leather, there’s really no way to toss it into the washing machine. For this reason, after any use where you got sweaty (such as in bed), I recommend using some basic leather cleaner from the store to get the leather clean again. Along with this, use a slightly damp washcloth to clean the mask after each use to avoid any sort of dirty build-up from happening.
Overall, I like the mask, but it’s probably not going to come out of the packaging much. I think about using it so I can make video reviews with my face in them, but that seems kinda silly too – like I’m a masked sex toy bandit. However, it is a really pretty, really high-quality mask, but it just doesn’t flatter my face all that well. I love the cute leather rose though; it’s adorable. Thanks to Liberator for providing this roleplay item for my Mardi Mask review.
