Liberator Black Label Scoop Review

Liberator Black Label Scoop
The Liberator Scoop

UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2022: The Liberator Scoop sex shape (Black Label bondage version or otherwise) is no longer in production. There are lots of other Liberator sex shapes, but due to this one’s niche uses, I’m guessing it was discontinued in favor of other shapes. If you’re looking for shapes with similar curves, I’d probably go with the Liberator Hipster (on a budget) or the Liberator Equus Wave (for a splurge).

The Black Label Liberator Scoop is a sex shape sold by Liberator intended to add some new rockin’ and rollin’ to your sex play. This is because the Scoop – quite literally – rocks. The Scoop is made from Liberator’s strong foam core, like all Liberator shapes, and measures over three feet long, is a foot tall, and is two feet in width.

For comparison, this makes it three times larger than the Wedge and quite a bit larger than the Liberator Ramp as well. The outer cover of the Scoop is made from microfiber material, and underneath that material is a waterproof layer that keeps the Scoop’s core foam from being harmed by bodily fluids.

Like all Liberator packages I’ve ever received, the box and packaging is discreet. (Well, about as “discreet” as a three-foot box can be.) But no, it doesn’t say anything about having a sex product in it. Inside the box, the Scoop was fully assembled and ready to go. Along with the two sex shapes (Scoop and Wedge), there was also a small little sex position booklet. The booklet itself does provide some good position ideas, but it is a bit more of an advertisement for other Liberator products than a straight-up position guide.

The “Black Label” portion of the name means that this Liberator Scoop was intended for kink. This means that the Scoop is has some bondage points attached to it. The default clips for the Scoop are little receiving-ends of clips. They aren’t d-rings or anything. However, Liberator does sell a small kit that will clip into the clips and turn them into d-rings will which make them usable for any cuffs you own.

As default, the Scoop will work for any Liberator Cuff sets which can be purchased separately (or, in my case, some came with my Conversion Kit purchase for my Liberator Wedge.) There are six different clips. Two are located on each end of the Scoop with the remaining two in the middle of the Scoop. With these six different clips located on different parts of the Scoop (and they also are flexible, so they’ll attach easily no matter how the Scoop is positioned), you can easily find a method of bondage that will work just fine for your kinky play.

The Scoop lying the supportive way

The Black Label clips are attached to the outer-most cover which is the microfiber cover. This microfiber cover does provide a no-slip surface with other Liberator Microfiber shapes. (Which is basically all of them aside from the Jaz and the Bon Bon) This outer layer can easily be zipped off via the zipper (which wraps around one side of the Scoop, but during multiple uses, it has never bothered us) then thrown in the wash for cleaning.

Underneath this microfiber layer is a waterproof lining which allows you to make as much of a mess as you want – it won’t hurt the foam core. The Wedge and Scoop both grip each other really nicely because of the microfiber cover – this means you can use and thrust up against one without fear that it will slip and all. They actually hold really nicely.

The foam of the Scoop holds firm really nicely. I was worried that placing weight on the Scoop would cause it to rock really erratically or not at all. I’m happy to report that, since the Scoop is about a foot in height, it does have quite a bit of foam, and as such, it holds really nicely and firmly – even with quite a bit of weight (my 300 pounds on it.) It gives nicely under my weight for comfort, but it doesn’t sag at all. It holds the Scoop shape really perfectly which makes it great for achieving some of the more difficult sex positions.

So, there are really two different ways to use the Scoop. (Though there could be more if you really get creative.) You either lie the Scoop on the flat side for a nice half-circle or you can set the Scoop resting on the curved side which will allow the Scoop to rock back and forth.

With the scoop in the stable, flat-side position, it works great for a multitude of positions which does include ones which allow you to stretch. One of my favorite uses for the Scoop is for a non-sex use – I used to love stretching out over bleachers when I was in high school since it would stretch out my back and feel amazing. I found that I can now achieve that with the Scoop which just feels great. Plus, it’s enjoyable to stretch out in such a sensual and vunerable way.

Sex-wise, you could use it with the flat-side down to sit on the top of the hill for a sitting position, stretch over it with your body for oral sex, a doggy style position, a legs-lifted position, or just to allow your lover to see your body in a way that’s not normally seen.

With the Scoop resting on the curved side to allow it to rock, there are so many fun possibilities. Sex-wise, you can use it for a sitting position to get some extra leverage. You could also use it for a missionary-like position to enjoy the extra rocking. My boyfriend absolutely loves using the Scoop like this – just to rock on. It’s like having an adult swing. You can grip onto the edge of the Scoop and rock amazingly well. In fact, you can get enough of a rock that the Scoop will slide you right off – and onto the floor. It’s definitely giggle worthy – though not very sexy.

We’ve found the best way to avoid that is to make sure you are both naked before playing on the Scoop – naked skin seems to grip better on the microfiber than clothed skin. One of our favorite uses is to use the Scoop, in this “rocking” mode, for a massage. One partner lies on the Scoop, and sliding the Wedge under a side for a slight bit of stability, it puts the partner at a great height for massaging as well as the Scoop moves (only slightly), and the motion of the Scoop becomes relaxing after a bit.

So where does the Wedge fit into all of this? Well, the best use, that we’ve found with the Scoop is to use it to prop the Scoop into a stationary position when it’s in its “rocking” position. This allows you to get a slight rocking without anyone accidentally falling off the Scoop. Aside from that, it can be used on top fo the Scoop to provide extra elevation to the hips for good g-spot positioning during aside. And if you don’t feel like getting your Scoop out, the Wedge works perfectly by itself – in fact, it’s my favorite sex shape from Liberator. It will work great for elevating the hips during missionary position or bending over during from-behind positions.

The Scoop is pretty large when it comes to storage. It will slide under a bed or into a closet with no problem – but it is something you want to think about before you purchase it. Especially when, because of the odd shape, it is a bit hard to pass off as a therapy shape. Cleaning is amazingly easy since the microfiber layer zips off to get tossed into the wash. You can make as much of a mess on this as you want since the Scoop (and Wedge) are both waterproof. You can purchase adapters to use your own cuffs, or Liberator does sell clip-cuffs that will work well with this set. (And the clip-cuffs are actually amazingly comfortable. I really love the feel of them!)

The Scoop is a very unique sex shape, and I’m glad we own it. It’s really like an adult playground piece. Because it can rock back and forth and can be used for some pretty adventurous sex, the Scoop makes us feel more “naughty” just by owning it. While it’s not a sex shape I’d want to use every time I want to have sex (the positions can be pretty athletic), it definitely adds something that helps spice things up.

Plus, it’s really fun to come up with new ways to have sex on the Scoop. If rockin’ and rollin’ sounds like a sexy time to you, I’d highly recommend the Liberator Scoop.
