The Insignia Alia by LELO is a clitoral vibrator that was made to be completely waterproof and still be a luxurious option for those who seek a clitoral vibrator. You can purchase it at FunWares. It comes in deep rose, black, or pink. The colored part of the vibrator is silicone while the silver part is painted plastic. The Alia is a clitoral vibrator, and as such, it’s pretty small in size. The Alia is a little over three inches long, and it’s less than an inch in width.
As with all LELO products, the packaging on the Alia is just downright gorgeous. A plain, black, discreet box comes packaged in a little cardboard outer box that lists all of the information of the Alia in a stylish fashion. This outer box can be trashed if you want, or you can keep it to help differentiate all of your LELO toys from one another. The discreet, plain black box has a lid that just easily slides off the top to reveal the Alia and its accessories. I’m glad to report that LELO has switched back to having a little tray for the vibrator to sit in. The Alia sits ina nice, velvet-covered tray next to the little Insignia brooch that is included. I’m not sure what you’d do with the brooch (and the boyfriend questions as to why it’s included in the first place), but if you enjoy putting pins on your stuff, it might be a way to “identify” other sex toy lovers. The tray isn’t meant to be lifted out of the box itself (it’s glued in), but it can be if you want to. The charger hides under a piece of cardboard that lifts up. A black satin storage bag is also included with this, and the instruction manuals (including information about the ten year warranty) are in the storage bag.
I really, really like the design of the Alia. I thought that the hole in the middle of the vibrator would be stupid, but I surprisingly, ended up really liking it. It can be hard to grip onto some of the other smaller clitoral vibrators out there just because they’re so small and they get slippery. The Alia solves this problem by providing the nice hole into which your fingers can slip really easily. However, I’m not as fond as the materials that LELO used for the Alia. I’m not sure why the silver part is not metal of some sort; I think the plastic is a bit misleading when you pay for such a nice, luxury toy. Maybe there’s something I’m missing. It’s possible that metal got too cold to make this a good bath toy. It’s also possible that metal vibrates too well, so they chose to use plastic so the fingers inside the toy didn’t end up being vibrated.
I’m not sure what it is. I can say that I really enjoy the fact that the Alia doesn’t make my fingers numb like some other clitoral vibrators can. It has a decent amount of power, but at the same time, the plastic aspect of the Alia keeps it from making it uncomfortable to grasp while I’m using it. It keeps on vibrating, but it’s almost like I’m holding something that isn’t vibrating which is great for my fingers. The Alia has no holes leading to the inside of the vibrator which is what makes it waterproof. The charging port does require plugging a cable into a silicone indent into the Alia. I’m not sure how it manages to “reclose” the hole after it’s done charging, but I did it for testing purposes, and yes, after you unplug the charger, it’s still completely waterproof.
The Alia charges just like any other LELO toy. If memory serves me, I think I remember seeing on Twitter that LELO says that all of the LELO toys (including Insignia) can share the same charger, so if you own multiple LELO toys, that is definitely a godsend. This particular toy takes about four hours for the first charge, and other charges should only take about two hours. I honestly haven’t worn down the battery yet with multiple uses, but LELO says that it should last about four hours of play when fully charged. To charge this one, there’s a little concave area in the silicone where you “push” the charger into. It pulses while charging, and when done charging, the Alia will glow steadily.
The Alia is extremely easy to control. There are three easy-to-push buttons on the Alia’s top that make the Alia intuitive to control. There’s a “+” button which increases the vibration speeds, a “-” button which decreases the vibration speeds, and the little half-circle which lets you cycle through the patterns. I’m in love with the fact that there are multiple strengths to each pattern. You can adjust the strength for each pattern. Most other vibrators usually just have the single-speed for each individual pattern. The buttons are perfectly intuitive, and I’ve never had any problems with accidentally pressing any of the buttons either. I love their control set-up! Along with this, for travel purposes, you can hold down all of the buttons at once, and the vibrator will lock so it won’t turn on accidentally during travel.
The vibrations on the Alia are on the strong side of moderate. They aren’t mind-blowing, but they’re still strong vibrations that are stronger than most clitoral vibrators. Most women should have no problem orgasming with the strength of these vibrations, and if you own other first-generation LELO toys (Like the Gigi, Liv, etc.), the Alia’s vibrations seem to be stronger than those toys. I think the vibrations on my Insignia Isla were stronger than on this Alia though. I’m not 100% sure. The vibrations are ridiculously quiet too. And I mean “ridiculously”. The “pop” of the buttons is louder than the strongest vibration setting. Even in the same room, the strongest vibration setting couldn’t be heard by my boyfriend sitting four feet away. (I know because he was asking “what in the world I was popping” when I changed the speeds.)
I like the LELO Alia for clitoral use. You could use it for other erogenous zones, or it’s actually really easy to hold onto if you wanted to use it as an “addition” to a blowjob as well. The silicone feels velvety-soft, and while it will require lubricant if you want to have it slide along the skin, it still works just fine without lubricant to keep it in relatively the same spot.
Cleaning is probably, unfortunately, one of the bigger issues with the Alia. The crevices between the plastic portion and the silicone portion can harbor some bad bacteria if you don’t clean it out carefully. If you are prone to infections, you want to be extra careful. However, using a toothpick or immersing it in bleach should take care of the majority of the problem. It’s worth being extra careful with cleaning though since the bacteria can be hard to clean from there. (I could pretend that we’re horribly concerned, but considering our large amount of Fleshlights (which can be cleaned with soap), we’re not too worried.) Since this is a silicone toy, you can only use water-based lubricants with it. Along with that, it can easily be stored in the original packaging, or if you like, you can also just choose to keep it in the included satin storage bag.
Overall, I’m really fond of the LELO Alia. It’s a small, easy-to-use clitoral toy that is waterproof and extremely easy to hold. The vibration controls are just amazingly intuitive and perfect, and the entire toy just screams “luxury”! My only slight concern is with the cleaning issues, but they just require a little bit of extra care to deal with. If you can orgasm with moderately strong vibrations, I’d have a hard time recommending any other clitoral sex toy to you.
