The Laid D.1 Stone Dildo is a stunning dildo sold by Pink Cherry Sex Toys. 7.75″ long with a width of almost 1.5″, this toy is made from Black Norwegian Moonstone that’s, for your peace of mind and pleasure, fully covered in a clear finish that makes for silky smooth insertions. The toy features two different, useable ends while one of the ends even includes an asymmetrical design that’s not seen in any other dildos out there. With the choice to include the completely-clear coating, all of the stunning details of the original stonework can be easily viewed.
The packaging for this stone dildo is pretty straight-forward. It comes in a cardboard box that clearly states the name of the dildo, but it doesn’t have any pictures or anything like that. Inside the box, the toy is resting in a foam “tray” that keeps it held pretty firmly and keeps it from moving around. (I usually have to tip the box upside down to get the toy out). For storage, this box would definitely work, and it looks “brown and boring’ enough to actually be relatively discreet if it’s hidden among other boxes.
It’s kinda weird to find a stone to be quite so stunning, but that’s exactly what I’m finding myself thinking over the Laid D.1 Stone Dildo. While the clear coating makes for a sensual, slick experience, it also allows for the original coloring of the stone to come out perfectly. There are small flecks of metal that shimmer, and the entire dildo looks completely elaborate. The coating doesn’t get cloudy at all, and it allows the true beauty of the original dildo’s stone to shine through with ease.
It’s worth nothing that this dildo is actually surprisingly heavy. It’s not “holy jeez!” heavy, but it’s heavy enough that you could possibly make your wrist sore from thrusting with it. It’s on-par, weight-wise, with some of the stainless steel toys. If you have wrist issues or tend to go nuts with thrusting, you may find that the Laid D.1 dildo ends up feeling a lot “heavier” than you’d initially think – especially if you’re using it at one of the more extreme angles to get a good g-spot pleasure.
One of the main selling points about the Laid D.1 Dildo (aside that it’s, y’know, made from stone) is the asymmetrical design. This is very unique in a dildo. Many dildos have asymmetrical ends, but this toy actually has asymmetry one of the ends completely – not just on both different ends. As the videos from Laid demonstrate, this means that, purely by giving the dildo a slight twist, you can have completely different points of the sex toy acting as contact points. The asymmetry is not huge and not too noticeable, but as you twist the dildo, you’ll definitely notice that some areas provide more contact than other areas of the toy.
This is partially annoying to me. I do love the idea, but at the same time, it means that, if I accidentally end up twisting the dildo (like may happen), I could lose all the “perfect” sensation I had going on. This becomes much, much likely if a partner is using the dildo on me. They really don’t recognize as the dildo gets slightly twisted, so they can’t fix it when the sensation falls out of that “amazing” spot that it previously had been in. So while I definitely can see the purpose for some people (especially those who only want to own a single sex toy), for me, I’d much rather have the multiple sensations split into multiple sex toys so I can reliably get that sensation instead of having the “ability” to change on the go.
This particular problem gets worse with the amazing coating of the Laid D.1 dildo. Believe me, I love that the coating makes things so slick, but when your goal is to avoid the dildo accidentally twisting around in your hands (and being able to prevent it from happening), having a really slick sex toy is the opposite of what needs to happen. Wiping off the surface of the dildo does help slightly, but with the super-slick coating that Laid used, you’re going to have quite a bit of slipperyness during use. I definitely recommend keeping a towel nearby to help “manage” the lube and make it easier to gain leverage for thrusting.
The dildo doesn’t hit my g-spot like I was hoping either. It’s not that it’s a bad design; it’s just that it’s not such a great g-spot design for me. The less-curved type of g-spot design means that the angle for penetration is a pretty steep one, and while it’s possible with a partner using it on me, it gets a bit more uncomfortable to use it on myself. It feels quite pleasurable for regular insertion (especially with the more pointed end versus the flat-tipped end), but I’m not as fond for trying to use it for targeted g-spot stimulation.
I was particularly impressed by the coolness of the material. Not in “awesome”-cool, but as-in “temperature”-cool. The stone dildo’s surface tends to stay relatively chilled. It warms up during use, but before use, it does have a slight chill. It’s not a “frigid” sensation like stainless steel has (that’s uncomfortable), but it’s a slight chill that actually feels really refreshing and sensual when placed in the warmer areas of your body.
(As a note, while doing research about specs for this dildo, I saw pictures of the D.1 dildo that DO NOT match this dildo. These appears to be older reviews of the D.1 dildo. It looks like Laid took out that “D1” etching that they used to have etched into the sides of the dildo for grip and friction. Now the entire surface of this Laid dildo is completely smooth.)
Because of the dildo’s stunning, clear, smooth coating, cleaning isn’t as hard as it possibly could be. There aren’t really any crevices or nooks that you have to be careful about cleaning; it’s really all just one, large smooth toy that’s simply cleaned. The instructions include no cleaning information, but like most standard sex toys, I would assume that you use anti-bacterial soap and warm water to clean this. Be careful while cleaning as the slick surface of the dildo gets, well, slicker – especially if you used lube. Be careful not to use any abrasive cleansers as it could possibly harm the surface of your sex toy. As for lubricants, all types of personal lubricants should work fine though I usually recommend water-based lubricant. (And since the Laid D.1 is slightly hard to grip already, I definitely would recommend against the silicone-based lubricants as they aren’t going to easily just “wipe up” to do damage control against the slipperyness).
Overall, I like the design of the Laid D.1 Stone dildo. It has a pleasurable shape that feels nice during use while, when not in use, the stone design looks absolutely stunning. I’m not as fond of the asymmetrical shape as I thought I’d be, but I could easily see this working a lot better for other people than it did for me. Plus, I wish the g-spot curve was slightly more curved to hit my spot better, but the dildo still gives pleasurable sensations, glides nicely against the skin, and just plain looks amazing. Thanks to PinkCherry sex toys for providing this stone dildo for my Laid D.1 Stone Dildo review. For those of you that dislike stone, Laid also offers this same design but in a silicone material.
