UPDATE: APRIL 2020: The Jopen Ego e4 appears to be currently out-of-production. It can still be purchased at various retailers, but CalExotics/Jopen does not list this prostate silicone vibrator on their website. This review remains as a reference for those who need information.
The Ego e4 is a Jopen silicone prostate massager. Completely waterproof and completely made from body-safe silicone, the Ego e4 is rechargeable and features an instant on/off with travel lock. It charges via USB, and it includes a one year warranty to help protect you from any problems. This massager is about three and a half inches long (insertable) with a diameter of slightly over an inch at the widest point.
The packaging for this blue anal toy is pretty thorough. It comes in a black speckled box that clearly showcases the features of the toy on the outside. Inside, the anal vibrator sits in a foam tray that holds the vibrator in firmly. Along with that, there are spots in the tray to hold the charging cable and the instruction manual. The kit pretty much includes everything you’ll need to use the vibrator.
The design of the Ego e4 is pretty simple. It has a larger, longer inner portion that is designed to be inserted while it includes another shorter portion at a direct right-angle to make this vibrator anal safe. The controls for the vibrator are on this external portion which, with its design, can also stimulate the perineum area during use. The charging port is right at the junction where the two parts meet, and it just has a small, waterproof hole that the charger can break through later when you want to charge this small, silicone toy.
This sex toy is rechargeable. It takes three hours for a full charge, and it should be fully charged after that time. It doesn’t come fully charged, and you should charge it fully before the first use. This anal vibrator charges via a USB cord, and it doesn’t come with a wall adapter. If you want to charge it through a wall outlet, you’ll need to have your own adapter for the USB cord. As it’s charging, the bright LED light on the vibrator lights up, and after it’s done charging, the light will shut itself off.
To use this vibrator, you only have to worry about one button. This button is located on the shaft of the vibrator, but it may require an awkward angle in some positions since it’s located on the end closest to the internal part of the anal vibrator. This vibrator is very simple to control, too. Just like other Jopen toys, the button is a “push and hold”. You push down the button to strengthen the vibrations, and let off of it when you have the strength you want. You do one press to turn off the vibrations, or, if you want them stronger, you just press and hold it again. You can’t make the vibrations softer after you’ve made them stronger, though, so you do have to turn off the toy and start from scratch if you want them softer.
I normally like this control system for vaginal toys, but for anal toys, there usually are some’more “awkward” positions involved (at least for us), so sometimes this control structure, and trying to get a good hold of the vibrator to be able to press and hold down the button was difficult. The button is mostly flush with the surface of the vibrator, so when lubricant is added into the equation, it makes it so you “have” to be able to hold the toy with one hand and push and hold the button with the other hand. Not the worst ever, but it does require forethought or putting down whatever you happened to be doing with the other hand. When playing with a partner, though, it was no problem.
The vibrations on this anal sex toy are okay. They aren’t the strongest vibrations out there, but they aren’t bad either. Considering that most people don’t require “strong” vibrations for anal orgasms and that vibrations are just a nice icing on the cake, the vibrations on the Jopen Ego e4 work fine. If it was to be used for clitoral use, I’d call the vibrations just on the side of “moderate”, but as it’s intended for use anally and internally, the vibrations that the Jopen Ego e4 puts out are satisfactory and easily felt during use, and that’s all I need from the vibrations.
When it comes to noise, though, this anal vibrator can barely be heard while inserted. Outside the body, it has a slight hum that can be heard in the same room, but not outside a closed door. When inserted, it has virtually no sound to it, so if you require a quiet toy for discretion, the Jopen Ego e4 works wonderfully for that.
When it comes ot insertion, this vibrator works pretty well. As long as you have a minimal amount of anal experience, the size of the Jopen Ego e4 is workable. It’s a bit larger than the size of putting four fingers together. It’s a large size, but it’s also a do-able size, and as long as you’ve had some experience with semi-larger toys, you should be fine using this one. The size feels noticeable and pleasurable, and the vibrations can be noticed during wear. Depending on how you choose to wear the plug, the vibrations for the prostate plug can also be felt externally along the perineum as well.
It’s worth noting that the Jopen Ego e4 doesn’t work the best for public play. It’s not awful, but it’s not great either. This is just because of the design. The retention area isn’t the largest, and for that reason, it’ll tend to slide out once your muscles become more tired and gravity works against you. It’s not a huge deal for short wear (like an hour of chores), but once time started to hit around three or four hours, it was a lot more noticable for us.
To clean this small vibrator, as it’s waterproof, you’ll just need to use your standard water and antibacterial soap to clean it. It can only be used with water-based lubricant (to avoid harming the silicone), and make sure to keep it in the box or away from hair or lint to keep it as clean as possible. The anal toy can be kept in a condom for easier cleaning, but as the odd shape makes the condom not protect the anal toy fully, I wouldn’t recommend using the condom as a way to be able to share this anal vibrator between partners.
Overall, the Jopen Ego e4 prostate massager has a good design and a good shape. We’d prefer a bit stronger vibrations and a different button placement, but with its whisper-quiet vibrations (advertising is true this time!) and noticeable vibrations, the Jopen Ego e4 vibrator could be a perfect choice if the features and shape appeal to you.
