I happen to have an odd obsession with lubricants even though Jor and I can’t use up the ones we have. So when this adult sex store offered to let me review the Hydra Smooth Cream Lubricant, I had to take them up on their offer.
The Hydra Smooth Cream Lubricant comes in a pop-cap bottle that holds 4.5 fluid ounces. It’s purple shaded with white, and quite honestly, doesn’t scream “I’m for sex!” unless you pick up the bottle and read it. It’s latex-friendly as well. It’s a water-based lubricant, so it works nicely with all toys unless you want to play in the shower. The cap itself does dispense the lubricant pretty quickly – even without being squeezed, so be careful about turning it upside down with the cap open.
I found that the lubricant worked well with most surfaces and didn’t stain the sheets after use (which is really nice.) As the bottle does state, I didn’t find a reason to wash it after I was finished, and it didn’t irritate me not to. In fact, the next morning, I felt like my thighs and stomach were softer than they had been the night before. Hydra Smooth does claim to make your skin softer, and from what I can tell, it seemed to have worked. I’ve used the lubricant a couple times and never wash it off afterwards, and it doesn’t seem to harm anything. However, you may get irritation more often than I do, so it may be something you want to try on a small area before you go all-out where it would be horrid to have itchiness.
The lubricant itself is about the texture of semen. Honestly, it is. It’s not gel-like, and it’s more runny then firm. It appears about the same as male ejaculate as well. Personally, it didn’t bother me (and actually made me think of awkward ways I could use this to trick my friends), but it may bother some. It does lubricate any area you put it on, though, quite nicely. If you don’t watch it, it will run off your hands and other parts quite easily though.
Vaginally, it doesn’t appear to need much reapplication. Just one application worked quite well for us. With a toy, it didn’t appear to need any reapplication either. We used it with a male masturbator and just the one application worked really well. It also provides great lubrication for masturbation as well. It isn’t sticky after it starts to dry either – it stays pretty slick.
It doesn’t take much for this product to be effective, so in all honesty, I’d say you have quite a few uses in this bottle. I can’t give you an exact, but all of our playing so far has barely dented in 1/8 of the entire bottle. It doesn’t appear to have an expiration date which is a little weird to me since most lubricants do, but I assume I’d notice if the lubricant was bad. The bottle actually holds up really well, and it hasn’t leaked on anything yet, so I don’t expect it to.
The ingredients include: Deionized water, proylene glycol, glyceryl stearate, soluble marine collagen, hydrolyzed elastin, ale vera gel, vitamin E, disodium EDTA, hydroxyyethlcellulose, TEA-carbomer, methylparaben, prophlparaben, imidazolidinyl urea, sodium benzoate. I’m slightly concerned about the urea since I have no idea what that is and the parabens. So far, nothing conclusive has been made about parabens, but some women do appear to have an allergic reaction to it, so do try this out on a small patch of your arm before you head south with it.
Overall, it does appear to be a safe product that does what it claims. It made my skin soft, and I didn’t find any reason to need to wash it off after use. It seems to work well for vaginal or toy use and looks like the lubricant will last you a long time before you need a new bottle. It’s discreet, and it works quite well, so I definitely recommend it.
