HUM Smart Vibrator Review

HUM Smart Vibrator

If you’re ready to try adding advanced technology into your pleasure toybox, you’ll want to meet the new HUM vibrator. Built in the USA and entirely waterproof, this silicone vibrator offers wireless (truly wireless!) charging and responds-to-pressure vibrations. Available in multiple colors and fully rechargeable, this intelligent vibrator is about 7″ in length with a circumference of about 5″. The base of the vibrator is entirely flat, and the vibrator will sit up when placed on a flat surface.

Since I was sent an early copy, I can’t comment too much on the boxed packaging itself. However, the retail versions will come with a soft, satin carrying bag. HUM comes with instructional information, the wireless charging base, and the cord to charge the wireless base. Assuming it’s the same bag I was sent, it is large enough to store the vibrator, the base, and the charging cable, but it has a hard time fitting the cable-to-wall-outlet adapter.

“HUM” touts itself as a smart and intelligent vibrator. This is accomplished, in part, by its wireless charging capabilities and its responsive vibrational abilities. The HUM is a rechargeable toy that can be charged via any Qi wireless charging system – and it includes its own charging base as well. Along with that, the vibrations are actually connected to a intensity sensor along the shaft. The tighter the shaft is held around a mid-point around the shaft, the more intense the vibrations will be. Are your internal muscles squeezing tightly because you’re on the edge of orgasm? Then the HUM responds accordingly, and it vibrates even more strongly.

As far as I’m aware, HUM is the only vibrator of this type. I can’t think of any other vibrators that offer an instantly-adjusted vibration intensity based upon how strongly the shaft is gripped. There certainly isn’t any other vibrator on the market that charges wirelessly via the Qi wireless system.

The design of the silicone-material HUM vibrator lends itself well to its stream-lined, penetration-focused body. It looks similar to a straight-design vibrator. It has a few diameter changes throughout the body of the vibrator, but it’s still entirely straight. The vibrator is entirely rigid with no flexibility in it, and the silicone offers a little bit of plushiness to it – not much though. The tip is just as rigid as the rest of the vibrator. The silicone is a nice, silky-smooth silicone, and it glides so nicely against the skin. I’d still highly recommend using external lubricant before penetrating with this toy, though – it still takes a bit to get moving nicely in penetrated areas.

I have to admit that charging HUM is a pretty seamless process. If HUM is one of the few vibrators that you keep, you’re going to love this system. HUM charges via wireless system – much like some of the more-recent high-tech phones. Plug the charging base into an outlet or into a USB port, and then just place the vibrator onto the base, and it will charge. The base is really flat – as is the base of the vibrator – and as long as you don’t have any earthquakes, the vibrator sits on the base very easily. It charges perfectly like this; I didn’t have any issues with dead spots or weak connection. The vibrator can also be used with any other Qi wireless charging base (like if you have one with your phone).

Using HUM was designed to be intuitive. However, it still takes a little bit of getting used to the controls before you’ll feel comfortable always getting it to do what you want. Pressing and holding the HUM button will always turn the vibrator on or off. Once the vibrator is on, a quick press of the HUM button changes between the patterns on the vibrator. The HUM seems to default to the pressure-sensitive mode at a lower setting, so the vibrator has a lot of intensity to give you when squeezing happens around the center of the shaft. However, at any time, you can press the + or – buttons on the vibrator itself to increase or decrease the vibration intensity without needing to squeeze the toy. This is what you’ll end up doing if you prefer to use the vibrator for clitoral or other external use.

Like any vibrator out there, the vibration intensity of this intelligent vibrator matters. With the dual motors, when inserted, you’ll get pleasure around the tip and around the center in particular. When using it for clitoral sensations, the vibrations are in the same spots. Both motors seem to be around the same intensity. Neither of the motors are particularly deep or powerful, but they aren’t particularly buzzy or surface vibrating either. I’d say they’re in the middle. For penetative vibrations, they should be more-than-enough for most users. If you’re hoping to use these vibrations for clitoral use regularly, however, you might find the intensity a bit lacking.

For those that enjoy clitoral sensations, the vibrator does appear to be equipped with some sort of gyroscope. The vibrator seems to be a little less dependent on the pressure sensitivity when the vibrator is held with the tip facing the found. I can’t tell you exactly the functions that the tilt seems to control as I’m still learning it myself, but it does seem to play a moderate role in how the vibrator functions.

Where HUM really shines is penetrative use. You certainly can use HUM as a clitoral vibrator, but you’re really going to miss out a good chunk of the vibrator’s features if you choose to do that. Where the HUM really is designed to shine is via penetration. Since one of the biggest features of this silicone vibrator is its ability to respond to how tightly the toy is gripped around the shaft, using it externally won’t activate that feature. However, once it’s slipped inside, once you can find its “sweet spot” (which may take a couple uses) where the sensors are in the vicinity of the muscles of the area you’re playing with, you’re going to find that this technically-advanced vibrating is rewarding and pleasurable.

As another sidenote, you can actually feel and hear the changes in the vibration intensity – even if you’re not the person who the vibrator is actually inside. It’s more of a subtle change, but if your partner is using the toy on you, they will definitely be able to feel as the vibrations ramp up with every clenching of your muscles. This adds another dimension to partner-play.

It’s worth mentioning that the entirety of the HUM’s shaft seems to be pressure sensitive. It seems to be most sensitive near the tip’s bulb and near the bulb near the center of the toy. If you prefer to only insert “just the tip”, the vibrator will seem to work for this. The only part that isn’t pressure sensitive is the base near the control buttons.

For my personal enjoyment, the HUM is not my type of dream vibrator. I’m not much for penetrative-only sensations, and the rigid tip of the vibe has poked me uncomfortably a couple times. However, I’m more of a clitoral girl, so I’m not their target audience for this one. With experiments anally on someone else, though, it worked particularly well – but the toy isn’t particularly anal-safe with its current design. I’d love to see HUM put some effort into a thicker, wider flare at the base for anal play as the pressure-responsive vibration intensities work just as well for butt play as they do for other types of penetration.

When it comes to cleaning this silicone beauty, you’re going to have a pretty easy time of it. Entirely waterproof and made of a single piece of silicone, the HUM vibrator is a breeze to clean. You only need to be careful to get around the raised edges of the control buttons near the base. Warm water and anti-bacterial soap will do the job particularly quickly, and make sure to avoid placing the vibrator on the charging base until the vibrator is entirely dry. If using lubricant with this vibe (which you’ll most-likely want to do with its material for penetration), you’re going to want to stick with water-based lubricant. Silicone-based could harm the HUM’s material.

Overall, if you’re a clitoral person, unless the wireless charging really has you going, this is probably not your ideal vibrator. It’s a good vibrator, but it probably won’t offer much outside of what a standard vibe could do for clitoral pleasure. However, if you’re one of those people that loves, enjoys, and possibly can even orgasm via penetration, you’re going to find a one-of-a-kind toy with the HUM vibrator. It’s well-built, offers technology that you really can’t find anywhere else, is easy to take care of, and has good vibrations to boot! Thanks to the creators of HUM for providing this smart vibrator for my Hum vibrator review.
