UPDATE: September 2022: While I still use this vibrator on-the-regular (like, “it lives on my desk I use it so much”), it appears to have been discontinued. Womanizer has improved the power (and design!) and put out so many new versions since this came out. This review remains for reference. It’s genuinely impressive how far Womanizer (as a company) has come from this first iteration.
Guys, I’m not going to lie: the first time I saw this thing, I made fun of it. Until the Womanizer vibrator showed up on my doorstep, I still made fun of it. Look at it! It represents a lot of things I really, really dislike about the sex toy industry. It looks semi-clinical (a fact they seem to try to have masked via really odd color schemes), it costs a decent amount of change, it claims it can make women orgasm in less than a minute, the name is obnoxious, and it has a GEM on it, for gods-sakes!
Despite all that, it has been receiving good reviews, so when the makers of Womanizer offered me one of their W100 vibes to review, I thought I’d take them up on it. And…wow. This, legitimately, offers a different type of pleasure than any other vibrator has done. This, legitimately, could make (aroused) clit-owners orgasm in less than a minute. THIS, legitimately, seems genuinely designed for serious clitoral orgasms.
You see, instead of the standard “let’s place a flat object on the clit and make it vibrate” ideal that most vibrators aspire to, the Womanizer uses the power of air pressure for pleasure. Sounds meh, huh? Well, it isn’t. You know that “when he sucks on my clit” recommendation that most women want? This toy does that. It literally makes a small suction around the clitoris, gently tugs, AND adds extra vibrations around it to boot! It’s basically everything most clit-owners claim they want in oral sex.
The vibrator claims it can move women to orgasm in less than 60 seconds. That is a tall order to fill considering most experts say that most vulva-owners need about 20 minutes of stimulation.
And yet, their claim is…not entirely inaccurate. This is literally the only sex toy that can claim that. It had me orgasming from non-arousal to orgasm within 5 minutes – on the LOWEST setting. When the toy already has a “head start”, it takes less than 3. For women who are already turned on and very aroused, I don’t see 60 seconds as being unreasonable. And that’s impressive.
The vibrator works pretty simply: you spread the labia and press the “hole” of the suction cup design right onto the clitoris. It doesn’t make a tight seal or pull uncomfortably or anything. It’s a very gentle sensation. Depending on how much pressure you like, you can leave the toy pressed hard against the body – or the Womanizer vibrator provides a different intensity when you lift it slightly away from the body – causing the suction to pull a bit more firmly. NEVER does it get “stuck” there like a suction cup; it provides suction via the air in the toy more than an actual, suction-cup seal. Don’t be worry about a painful experience.
Even if you’re new to vibrators, you won’t have any issue using this one. The power button turns the vibrator on or can be held to turn the vibrator off. The giant gem button (*grumble*) can be pressed to increase the power intensity. Only steady suction intensities on the Womanizer – and it works really well for it. The button placement is amazing. It was easy to access the buttons as needed but never did I accidentally hit the gem when I didn’t mean to.
As for the power, the Womanizer W100 has a decent power range. You *might* find yourself wishing for a couple of extra intensities on the stronger range, but even the lowest intensity can work just fine. The lowest intensity feels pretty soft while the highest one couples the vibrations and suction pretty well. I would still like a couple of extra power levels, but the ones it provides are more-than-sufficient. Just call me spoiled. ;)
Like the instructions claim, the vibrator is nearly-silent as well. It’s a low softer when you have the “suction cup” correctly positioned. Until you do, it’s definitely audible, so if sound is a concern, position the vibrator before you try to turn it on. That being said, when it’s correctly positioned, the lowest setting can’t be heard over the whirring of my laptop fan. The highest setting is hard to hear over a television. This toy definitely has “discretion” down as long as you keep the suction cup well-placed.
I’m going to keep it on my desk or easily accessible. Coming from a woman that owns thousands of sex toys (for lots of activities like kink or pegging), that’s a HUGE compliment. Only a scattering of those make it onto such a “revered” category.
That being said, the aesthetic design still hasn’t grown on me. Out of all of the options, I’m most in-love with this black/red tattoo design, but some of the other color designs come off as downright gaudy. (To each their own, though, right?) It looks like their Womanizer Pro model (which looks more like a flat, hand-held clitoral toy) aims to improve their original design concept and help the toy look a bit less clinical.
Some refinement on the English-speaking marketing of the toy would have been great. The instructions are from clearly-translated-from-another language which makes some of the phrasing confusing. The same can be said from their website. It’s a small improvement that could have a lot more English-speakers feeling like the vibrator was truly worth the price tag.
The Womanizer W100 was designed with cleaning in mind. The tip of the Womanizer pulls off entirely, and it’s made of silicone, so it’s really simple to clean. Just use warm water and anti-bacterial soap, and you’ll have a good, thorough clean. If you’d rather, though, it could be sterilized by boiling or with a water/bleach solution. Don’t forget to use a wet washcloth and use soap to wipe down the Womanizer itself. The tip tends to get the majority of any bodily fluids, but some can still get on the plastic toy itself.
As a sidenote for cleaning, I’d love to see a non-white vibrator tip. A colored tip that matched the vibrator body might help the toy seem a bit less clinical. I’d also like to see differently-sized replacement heads. The Womanizer could come with the standard head, but I’m sure some clit-owners could do better with a smaller or larger head. Offering a wider selection might work for people with non-average bodies.
Once you’re done with your toy, the Womanizer can be packed up pretty well with its included storage option. The included case is pretty useful, actually. It’s a hard-shell plastic case with a zipper, and it includes mesh, see-through storage pouches. It easily stores the Womanizer itself as well as the charging cable and still has quite a bit of extra room. If you wanted to store other sexual accessories (like lube) in here, it’d easily fit. More toys wouldn’t fit well, though.
Curious about the boring stuff? Well, the Womanizer W100 is purely designed for clitoral stimulation. Using its Air technology partnered with vibrations, it’s designed for orgasmic pleasure in all women. It charges via a charging port at the bottom that uses a USB cable. The head of the vibrator is made from silicone while the body of the Womanizer is made from plastic. The toy is phthalate-free, and the Womanizer is splashproof but NOT waterproof, so don’t take it underwater. The toy includes the Womanizer W100 itself, a spare removable head, a zippered case, the USB charging cable, and an instruction manual that includes tons of languages.
Maybe this isn’t my favorite “iteration” of this type of toy, but I honestly think the world would be a better place if all sex toys started to follow the stimulation model that the Womanizer sets. The pressure in such a pinpoint way coupled with the vibrations makes for a vibrator that will genuinely be able to get most women off without much of a problem – and relatively quickly too. It’s easy to use, feels luxurious, offers a wide enough range of intensities to please most people, and most importantly, gets you off really well!
