The Black Satin Babydoll is a piece of plus size lingerie that comes in XL, 1XL/2XL, and 3XL/4XL. It’s made from 90% Polyester and 10% Spandex, so the material does have some stretch to it. DreamGirl lingerie tends to fit those of average height, and this piece of lingerie is no different.
The one I have is in the 3XL/4XL size from Dream Girl. In Dream Girl’s chart, this means that it will fit a 22-26 size, D/DD cup, 40″-54″ bust, 37″-43″ waist, and 47″-53″ hip with a weight of 225 – 275 pounds. I’m slightly over those measurements, but because of the stretchy material, this piece of lingerie does fit me. It’s tight around the hips, but I can easily get in and out of the lingerie without much problem, so the lingerie will stretch larger if you are slightly over these measurements.
The big downside to this lingerie that I’m finding is the cups of the lingerie. The cups of the lingerie are underwire breast cups, and they are lightly padded, but for the lack of a better way to explain it, the cups are just “flat”. There just doesn’t seem to be enough material to actually support D/DD breasts – it seems like breasts will just spill out of the top of the cups. (I can’t do first-hand research on it with my tiny B cups which actually are too small for the cups and don’t nearly get enough “oomph” from the breast portion) It’s like the cups are flattened against the chest, so be aware that breasts above a C are most-likely going to be spilling over the cups.
To be honest, the cup probably is what is keeping me from wearing this more regularly. Even if I did have larger breasts, the cups seem to flatten instead of extend outwards. With my small breasts, it’s like they become completely lost in the cups themselves, and it’s just not a very attractive look for the lingerie on me because it tends to hide the majority of my breast size. When you are plus-sized, hiding the breasts makes everything look much worse, and that’s what this tended to do.
Because I’m short, the Black Satin Babydoll did hit the right place on my hips and could hold thigh-highs up okay with the garters. However, the garters do pull at the dress, so you may have to adjust the dress while wearing it. As it’s meant as lingerie, for bedroom usage, you probably won’t do enough walking around and moving to notice much of an annoyance, but if you wanted to wear this in public, it would be more annoying. If you are taller in height than I am (5’6″), you also may find that the outfit is too short because the dress will pull at the garters which pulls down the top. DreamGirl’s lingerie tends to run for the shorter women, and this one is no exception.
A downside with this is that the garters are not detachable. I don’t think it takes much extra material to make garters detachable, so I’m a bit disappointed to see this. That means that you either have to cut off the garters if you don’t plan on wearing them, have garters hanging down while wearing it without thigh-highs, or always wear this piece of lingerie with thigh-highs. For sexual purposes, depending on how tall you are, this may create a problem as you’ll have to detach the thigh-highs in order to have good access to the genital area, and it also makes wearing panties over top of the garter straps near-impossible, so you need thin panties that can be pushed to the side or you will have to unattach the garter straps in order to do anything sexual.
The front side of the lingerie is not see-through, but the entire backside of the lingerie is see-through. This means that some types of panties will leave panty lines through the lingerie and may look awkward through the see-through panel. (I personally think that most panty types tend to look a bit awkward, but cheeky panties looked okay.) Do keep this in mind if you tend to dislike your backside, though, or if you were wanting to wear a bra with this piece of lingerie.
The lingerie is comfortable, aside from pulling at the straps if you have garters attached, without the garters attached, it does hug the skin pretty tightly, so if you have lumps/bumps/things you want to hide, it will end up accentuating those (smaller women have commented that it makes the belly button visible), so it is a very tight and body-clinging material. It is, though, pretty comfortable, and it doesn’t really scratch at all. If you have wider hips, the design of the lingerie does a pretty good job of hugging and showing off hips which is definitely nice.
I’ve been thinking about modifying the lingerie. I don’t use the garters much, so I’m thinking about cutting them off. I’m thinking about, if I can manage the sewing aspect of it, taking the material out of the cups to make this cupless lingerie as it would probably flatter the chest better that way. The material is pretty soft, and it’s comfy to wear, so taking out the garter straps and adjusting the chest would probably help it fit better for me.
For cleaning, the tag wants you to hand wash in cold water and hang it to dry. For us, we tend to wash it in a lingerie bag in the washer and just hang it up to dry. This might shorten the lifespan a bit, but we haven’t had much of an issue with it at this point.
Overall, the Black Satin Babydoll may be a good choice for you if you have a C-cup chest, are comfortable with a see-through backside, and either definitely want to use the garters or don’t want to use them at all. It’s an alright piece of lingerie, but you definitely have to have the right bodytype for it, and the cups really confuse me.
